it needs public transit. Nobody in cities uses Apple maps because of it.
I wouldn't say no one in cities uses it but I'd say transit is a massive hole. Apple have been buying up transit apps recently so hopefully it's a work in progress.

I would have to disagree on this one. In my area Waze was so bad I deleted it within a week.
I had the same problem here.

Zoom out far enough on iPad (and now iPhone too) and you get day/night view on the Earth with city lights. Pretty cool.
More than useless.
You can just close your eyes, plonk your finger on the map and you've got more chance of being accurate than Apple Maps.
So, basically, you're admitting that you don't use Apple Maps and would rather be ignorant of facts instead of taking the time to understand?
Because what you just said is complete nonsense.
Yeah it really is pretty bad in the UK. For example, Cabot Circus in Bristol is not on there at all. It's a pretty major shopping centre and it opened 5 years ago.
I typed in "Cabot circus" and it brought up the Apple store there...is that not close enough? Not from Bristol, so I'm not sure.![]()
I'm mainly referring to the main mall in that triangle area, which, if you zoom in a bit on google maps, you'll see has a load of shops, restaurants and a cinema. None of them are in Apple maps. That area is just blank.
RE: Apple store, I think the shops along that row are kind of an external extension of Cabot Cirucs. You'll notice that ONLY the apple store is on there even though it's a row of shops (again, compare with google). This suggests that Apple just add all their shops. Apple Maps doesn't reflect the current state of the buildings there. Basically the map data is at least 5 years old.
Tell you where Apple does beat Google for Cabot Circus though- the satellite imagery! On Google it's still being built. Apple maps shows a completed building![]()
The RAF base in my village is about half a mile out and Apple thinks it's a golf course.
There's a large castle that's completely missing.
This one that's clearly marked with the airstrip going right down the middle?![]()
There are restaurants in town that shut down and rebranded about 5 years ago. It puts some shops in the water.
Can't find a single one in any water....??
There's another icon that shows it as a golf course. Zoom in on the junction of Grantham Road and Mere Road in standard map view. You'll see that "RAF Waddington" shows up as a golf course in standard map view.
Ok...so if I zoom in all the way (either view) an incorrect icon comes up marked as the AFB...but when I searched and looked on my own in an area I don't know or have even been to, the correctly marked area with correct icon came up. Isn't that what a map is supposed to do? The one you mention doesn't even come up as part of a search.![]()
But isn't that where the castle is?![]()
I'm not claiming it's perfect...I'm not even saying there aren't tons of errors on there that have been there for a year now.
You gave the list. I have never been there and don't know the area at all and my searches came up correct. That's all.
Maybe your pub is still wrong. Only thing I wasn't able to check.
The pub should be where the incorrect RAF Waddington POI is; it's definitely not a golf course thereThat incorrect POI just needs nuking, as there's already a correct one in the right place, as you found.
There seems to be some deep seated logic errors with maps though, dont you think? At least with some of the POIs.
BIG CASTLE - zoom right in to see it.
little shop - shows when zoomed out all the way.
There seems to be no consistency with what it shows at various zoom points. I see it so many times where there's actually a row of shops somewhere, but it only shows one or two until you zoom in all the way then it shows more. It does this even when there's enough space to show them all.
I do agree though that maps have and are improving. At least underground stations and rail stations in London have different icons now, and some of the missing underground stations now appear.
There is a whole load of outdated and missing information still, but it is getting better.
