And clicking anywhere on the map (not just the top bar) brings up that menu for a few seconds. I like it.

oh, duh, (laughing:rolleyes:), press on map and it brings up that menu (no voice), press on top bar, brings up menu and repeats last voice directions. Ok, got it...well, that's ok, I guess, adds a step though.

I still want fullscreen with directions in regular map mode (like beta 3).

Got it...I missed your comment about the voice part of hitting the bar.

If you mean while you have turn by turn directions on...click on the top bar, then "end" on left and "overview" on right should appear, if you click on overview it will zoom out to the whole route without ending, then you can zoom and such, go back to turn by turn with "resume", or just click the arrow and it will keep your gps point in middle, and, if voice is on, still tell you when to turn. ...does this answer your question? (I use maps a lot)

I like this, but it's only with turn by turn directions on...I'd like it to be like this with the map as well...need some settings for this.

The whole point is to not have to hit "end" and then "overview" etcetc. You can just zoom in/out in Google Maps on the fly. You are navigating, and driving a car. You should not have to do so many things to get basic functionality in a maps app.

It's improved but still not usable for me.

Some places or restaurants I search simply do not exist for Apple Maps but in Google Maps it does. Maps claims all routes require a toll for a certain destination but Google Maps says there is an available route without tolls and you'll get to the destination at the same time. I really tried giving Maps a chance during the betas and I'll give it one more chance with the official iOS 7 release. But truth be told, Google Maps hasn't failed me.

That's disappointing to hear. I, like you, have been wanting to give apple maps a real chance. I tried using them full time a few months ago (on iOS 6), but it just is too inferior to google maps...

The only time I use apple maps now is when I need to use a contacts address. That's so stupid that google maps won't use your phone contacts.

Another thing I like a lot.. the new Maps works with the male USA (and soon male British) voices. Who ever heard of a woman giving good directions? :) j/k

I think there is too much focus on driving navigation in Apple Maps. They need to:

Integrate public transit directions (in more places than just NYC because, as we all know, Apple thinks the US is the only country in the world worth covering)

and

Make walking/public transit default options (instead of driving)

and

Fix POIs/remove shops and other amenities that have been closed. Where are they getting this information from?

Google Maps is still "the way to go" for me.

Or as is available in iOS7 and i think iOS6 as well go into Settings > Maps, scroll to the bottom and choose between Driving or Walking as the default preferred directions. The choice is yours!!

Nope! Not in iOS 6! Thanks for the tip though; I'll be sure to check that when iOS 7 is available!

Yelp.

I was very disappointed when iOS 6 Maps came w/Yelp integration after hearing rumors that apple was in talks w/Foursquare.

While the ios7 betas still seem to rely primarily on yelp (more integrated, but same info), apple could surprise us in the GM and add better data from more sources. They have bought a couple small sources of map info, mainly for transit & walking info for some bigger cities, so who knows?

But, I would breathe a sigh of relief if they added or changed to Foursquare (from Yelp) at the last minute...that's where I go for places info, much better app & info.!

I would estimate 30% of the local businesses listed locally are wrong in Apple Maps. They were all flagged back when iOS6 came out and 12 months later there has been no change. I have found it unusable because of this and many other routing issues.

I second this. I can't trust Apple maps for accurate data, so I use Waze and GMaps instead.

30% is wildly optimistic where I live, more like 70% wrong here.

Starting to sound like Anchorman..."60% of the time it works every time."

Peoples "feelings" about accuracy are in no way realted to actual numbers or percentages. It only takes a single error to make me feel 100% angry, but that has no relevance on the actual percentage of correct or incorrect POI's in any mapping system.

I have also noticed that Maps doesn't have my doctors' offices listed while Google Maps does. I think I'm trying to put too much faith on Apple Maps -_-

Probably mentioned in one of the other iOS 7 threads, but funny how they changed the icon so the route is no longer turning onto I-280.

Always found it hilarious at the numbskulls commenting on how you couldn't turn onto it off the bridge with no knowledge of the onramp that was right there.

What alternative

When I was on iOS 5, I found Google Maps (Apple app) too disappointing with directions and always used Mapquest.

No one app does it all. They all have issues. I find Apple maps more accurate than Google in my area, MN. ymmv, but I typically switch back and forth to see which one is more accurate.

I travel a lot, in the US, and find Apple accurate. I'm sure outside, it sucks badly, do to their data sources.

They dug themselves a pretty big hole to get out of...will really take not only a serious effort to correct and add missing poi's AS WELL AS adding an easy way (web based Apple Maps...helllooo?) for users to add/edit the maps similar to how Google does it.

Not named correctly, nor is the pin in the correct position. At least it looks pretty?

But if you were driving there, couldn't that be the address of the stadium and therefore the best way to get you there?

I don't know since I don't live there, but many mapping programs that DO have the pin right in the middle of a stadium, for example, might try to take me in some weird back access road instead of the "main entrance" as required.

I've seen it both ways in Maps...and it is a difficult question to answer for public spaces that either have multiple entrances or are a distance away from what one might consider the actual street address. Monuments, stadiums, etc. are perfect examples of places one might want it both ways.

Google Maps takes you (from a driving directions standpoint) to almost the same place as Apple Maps....I'm assuming that "address" is somehow associated with the stadium.

So...Google somehow mixes what is marked as a POI versus it's actual address. Apple Maps does this as well...just not in this particular example.

Example where Maps does it the same...Washington Monument is marked correctly (note: it was NOT when iOS6 was first released...the "address" was marked)

The directions clearly keep you on the road to the "official" address of the monument.

Sorry...noticed the tag on the stadium in your picture above and typed in "Cowboys Stadium" and come up with this in Maps.

Not sure where your address came from....
