Never looked twice at iPhones before the 4 personally, though I did like the 2g/3g iPod touch which was similar but slim and chrome... With the iPhones I found the chrome fascia around the front bezel the most offensive part, looked really dated as soon as it was launched. Maybe at the time it did seem a revolutionary form factor, but we're looking at it from a 2019 perspective if we're comparing all the way up to the 11 Pro...What? You serious? better than 2G or 3G? 2G was a leap forwards back then when it came to phone design, 3G sure was plasticy at the back, yet it was still elegant and nice to look at.
newsflash: Your case wont cover the hideous cameras, so people will still see that three-eyed monstrosity and ask you "ugh, is that the new iphone?"
I'd make the iPhone little bit bigger so the lenses wouldn't stick out and use all the extra internal space for more battery.
Not all of us need a bazillion MP camera that can take perfect pics from space. Some of us just use the camera on our phone so our wives can see what item on the shelf at Walmart they want.
99% of the pics in my camera roll are that. And any old phone can call, text, surf and email.
Me? Tell that to the other guy who said he'll put a case on it so people will only ask him about cameras. Jeez, focus man focus! You really that insecure about yourself that you care about what other people think about your phone camera lenses?
OK in this photo the bump and back of the phone look like they match. Maybe it’s just the darker colors where you can notice the difference?Where I really noticed it was while watching first-hand videos on YouTube. The iPhone 11 does have a different back in that it does not have the Matte finish.
This is what the iPhone 11 Pro cameras remind me of, I really like them. This is a great design, they have added a bit of a retro touch to them.

That same OP also added a third option to the poll, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," meaning that OP is open minded about everyone's opinion, as we all should be.Watch it just be OP spending the day creating alts to vote on their own poll
Completely agree and this has been the premise of the thread since its inception but many folks are blindly replying with generic responses like "Who cares, as long as it'll take great pictures it doesn't matter."Anyone here that says design doesn’t matter is in utter denial and simply kidding themselves.
Good design is everything - back in the day, good design is exactly what separated Apple from the rest of the pack, and it was the cornerstone of their success and rise to prominence.
Are you saying you’d be okay buying an ugly-looking Porsche just because you’re always on the inside when you drive it? Because you prefer function over form?
Please stop shamelessly defending Apple by making convenient/illogical arguments.
Cared enough to post about it, thanks. You don't like the design? Don't buy the phone, no one really cares.
An updated iPhone SE with a full screen design like the iPhone X. Even if Apple had to make it slightly bigger I would be okay with it. I really hope that rumoured 5.4" premium iPhone is still in the works, and until then I'll keep using my iPhone SE, which still takes good enough pictures for me!So exactly what is your dream phone? No camera bump? And stick with ****** photos?
Indeed it's an absolute beauty. Samsung has been killing it lately in terms of DESIGN. Apple should take note (literally)! My fella’s got the Note 10+ and it is a masterpiece compared to this.
Searched trypophobia on Google, will have nightmares tonight, thanks. What's hilarious is that searching trypophobia on Google also gave results of articles about the iPhone 11 Pro and mentions of that phobia, haha.I won't go so far as to say it makes me feel sick, but I think because Apple is doing glamour shots close up of it as if it were beautiful, I do get that gross trypophobia feeling. If you don't know what trypophobia is you can do a Google image search. Some trypophobia makes my mouth water. This just makes me feel uneasy. I don't get why the carbuncle glass isn't frosted like the rest of the back. It looks like the lenses are frozen in amber.
"Who cares if it's ugly, it at least works."who gives a sh*t, its on the back of the phone? The pictures will come out great. Im more concerned about how the front looks. Everyone slated airpods when they first came out, 3 years later they're almost a "fashion" piece
Every gram counts on a device that's with you everywhere. Over time, the weight of a smartphone can make or break the experience.People are already complaining it’s 18 grams more. I’m not sure their arms could take that bigger battery.
Pretty embarrassing post. So basically people who dislike the design of the phone are only complaining because in reality they can't afford it? Fantastic mentality, I shall recommend you for a medal of logic.Maybe it’s a millennial thing or just whining because they need to justify not being able to afford it.
Compared to the iPhone 11 Pro, the spider does look cute! And I think that spider is adorable. And I am terrified of spiders.
Sent my resume as soon as Apple revealed the iPhone 11 Pros.So why aren’t you taking Johnny Ives’ job then?
I just flipped my Note10+ over and took a look at the camera lenses which are disguised with black glass around them. They are pretty big. So it looks like Apple did what it did with exactly what it had to work with. We know they want to do some sort of computational photography that sounds similar to what Google does. Google has the same square arrangement from what I have seen of the leaks. So I'm guessing this is a matter of marrying function to form. I don't think my Note does the same kind of computational photography Apple and Pixel are attempting. My Note takes really nice photos but people aren't super thrilled about Note or S10 photos. What I want to know is why the need for the huge exteriors on the cameras?
Are these larger apertures compared to something like the Note 10 Plus? I just don't know why they need to be that large and obtrusive when others are implementing the "same" array without the bulk.
Is there a purpose around the design or just a way to differentiate from other handsets?
That's pretty cool. I notice the lenses are more or less equidistant from each other, just like the iPhone 11 Pro. Methinks Apple knows what they're doing.
This logic doesn’t hold water. Numerous past iPhones have had flat glass over the back lens, including the most recent iPhone XS
Well, I am not nearly everyone. I am me. And I don't use cases.Nearly everyone has a case or protector on the phone. Who gives a **** what the back of the phone looks like.
Question: Couldn't they just have had the 3 camera lenses all behind some type of glass square on the back, so that there wouldn't be 3 separate circles? That is my main issue with this design.
This is why my theory is that leaks are controlled - that way, the ugliness grows on people and ultimately, upon reveal/launch, the design is acceptable. I bet people would have been shocked and reacted far more negatively, if they'd seen this monstrous design for the first time during the keynote.
iPhone has never competed directly with a professional-level DSLR. It's meant to be the camera you always have with you, as carrying around a bulky DSLR and lenses everywhere you go doesn't make any sense.I don't get such a heavy focus on the camera for Apple. Sure, we want them to take great photos but at what expense? This thing is flat out ugly IMO, the iPhone has always taken wonderful photos and to go to this length seems unnecessary.
Also, as a photographer this still cannot compete with a DSLR sensor and real lenses. If you want to take your pictures to the next level, you'll still need the appropriate gear.
