can't comment on the camera bump because on 12 pro but I manage with 12 pro weight - though im looking forward to Pro's being lighter hopefully next year. SS just adds too much heft and not worth the trade off considering its a finger print magnet when nude, and buried by a case otherwise 99.9% of the time for me
Would love to see Apple use a titanium/ceramic build as seen on the Essential Phone. That was one good-looking device.

Apple stole the notch from them, so why stop there? šŸ˜

Meanwhile new cars on the road are bigger. Bigger SUV's too. Families are growing. We require more space. Oh EV is the way to go. BTW EV's weigh a lot more than a gas powered car. Why? Because of heavy batteries. Yet some still want a tiny iPhone with 1,256 great features.

This one finally put the remaining 2 features in place to make it ā€œProā€:

1. Pro Motion Display

2. An ā€œXā€ chip

It’s not an A15X, but they have it the X treatment. Ever since M1 iPad Pro, I’ve thought the next home of the X chip should be the iPhone Pro series. And, for the first time ever, we have the ā€œXā€ treatment of an expanded GPU in the Pro series.

Lastly, USB-C would be nice, but lightning isn’t a deal breaker for me. I’ve got plenty of lightning cables, devices, and accessories. But the functionality of USB-C a-la iPad’s with it will be welcome.

With that functionality would come the very last feature that we may never see with Apple: an equivalent of Dex for Android.

If we got that, with a 1 or 2 TB iPhone, life would be grand.

BUT

I’m not holding off on any purchases on hopes of that. I don’t know if that is going to happen any time soon, or ever.

I have a 12 Pro Max now, and quite often I dig out my iPhone 6 and just marvel at it. Isn't it a genuinely legit expectation that things were supposed to get lighter and thinner since then?

I'd say the single biggest complaint I see on these boards is that Apple is obsessed with thin and light at the expense of functionality. Yours is definitely an outlier observation, and if the phones were thinner and lighter but with fewer of the pro features, there'd be far far more complaints on here.

It wouldn’t be a massive upgrade for anyone coming from the 12 - from an 11 and older would be a noticeable upgrade

Depends if you had the 12 pro max or not. 12 pro didn’t get much over the 11 pro.

I have the 13 Pro and it is a very good smartphone, for me what I love is:
  • Screen - ProMotion and colours are great
  • MagSafe - need to get some chargers that use it but it's a step up from Qi charging
  • Photos
  • Speed
It's not 'perfect' by any means tho, what I would like to see:
  • No notch
  • No camera bump
  • USB C
  • Under screen fingerprint ID (no use for me as I have an AW but I see why people want it)
  • Thinner
  • Lighter
I upgraded from an X and I would happily have stayed on that as the differences are not a big enough of a leap to warrant the cash.

Think you’re out of luck. iPhone 14 will probably have bigger camera bump. It’s an icamera now after all. Don’t see apple going thinner and lighter. No Touch ID. Lightning sticks around because apple doesn’t want to lose a revenue stream.

What is your point? This whole thread is based on subjective comments.
My point was that you made generalized comments about people like me defending having a heavy, large, hard to deal with phone like the 13 Pro, which to me is none of those. It isn't heavy. It isn't large. It isn't hard to deal with. I'm sure many of the 13 Pro users here would probably agree with me, or else we wouldn't have the 13 Pro. You made generalized comments that don't apply, that's my point.

Isn’t it too heavy for you all?
I am coming from 8 Plus.
I really like ProMotion display on my 13 Pro and the Macro Photography is great, but I also experience a lot of wrist pain while using this phone. It feels a lot heavier than my 8 Plus, even though it’s not that much heavier. (Maybe it has something to do with the centre of gravity caused by the camera bump?) And I constantly hit in the camera bump of the Silicone Case with my fingers. I also miss Touch ID.
Yeah about that... The weight difference between 8+ and 13 Pro is 2 grams. (202g vs. 204g)... So a weight of a average coke bottle cap. That must be excruciating. :)

Imagine continually suggesting the battery is the only part of a phone that adds weight. Imagine ignoring all of the other phones Apple had created before now that weighed less.

I don't disagree, tho periscope camera could make the camera bump smaller.

Just curious, do you have anything positive to say about the new phones?

Personally, I think the weight of the 13 Pro is fantastic though I've never really much noticed the differences from one generation to the next. Give me an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 13 Pro and yeah, it'll be noticable but as far as daily usage goes I've never had any sort of discomfort as we've climbed in weight over the years.

On the topic of the OP, I agree 100%. I've upgraded every year except the 4S and aside from the XS I've always been happy with it but this year feels different. The 12 Pro was a nice phone but the added weight and thickness this year feels like an upgrade to me. I will say, however, that I preferred the depth of the camera module on last year's model as even with a leather case the phone doesn't sit flat but it's such a minor gripe that it's barely even worth mentioning.

I’m loving my upgrade from 11pro to 13pro. I even prefer the flat edges. I don’t know why apple doesn’t release some kind of ā€˜cheap’ bracelet that lets you unlock your phone wearing a mask. That would solve a lot of problems for those people who don’t want to use an Apple Watch.

This is the iPhone I feel confident using in the 5G era, the processing power and efficiency, the camera system, the battery life, the form factor...everything is well done and nicely packed into one product. This could be the 6s Plus of the 5G era, with AC+ I expect to change the battery every 2 years to see whether this would become the first iPhone to pass 4 years of usage.

Yeah this will be a phone I keep for at least a couple years. It feels like an S upgrade to the 12, where all the real meaningful changes are more subtle but more impactful. I can't imagine a better design, faster speed, measurably better cameras, or better battery life happening next year, so 2023 is my likely next upgrade cycle.

Instead, somehow we are faced with these monstrous bricks now. They don't fit into jeans pockets anymore, tiresome to even hold up to one's ear for too long... I appreciate the new large screens, don't get me wrong, but even my 7 plus feels in my hand a light years lighter and easier to handle than my 12 max pro. Obviously, I am not upgrading to the 13...
I’m just glad they are finally increasing battery size and functionality, instead of mindlessly making stuff lighter and thinner - Jony Ive style.

Totally agree. Coming from an iPhone 11 Pro max I didn't think it could get that much better but the 120hz, even slightly bigger screen (6.7 vs 6.5) and cameras just makes this phone the best a smartphone could be without all the gimmicks in Android phones.

I came from an iPhone 6 Plus which I got at launch many years ago. I switched to a Samsung S7 Edge but it got so slow and unreliable after a few years I pulled the 6 Plus out of a drawer and have used it for the past 6 months. The battery was fried and apps were slowly but surely going unsupported as it aged, but it was still very usable.

Going to the iPhone 13 Pro I'm pretty blown away. The screen, the speed of every action, the unbelievable battery life, the cameras, etc. It's heavy but feels like a solid brick in the hand whereas the 6 Plus was paper thin outside of a case and felt easily breakable. The weight is not an issue.

iOS 15 feels way more complicated and probably a bit bloated as Apple throws every feature they can into it, resulting in an overload of messaging from the OS about this and that feature. I think that will subside as I get the phone set up how I want it.

My wife is also now (begrudgingly) using a 13 Pro from a Samsung S7 and it's still to be seen if she stops complaining about iOS - she would rather have another Samsung but the BOGO ($800 off at T-Mo) deal on the Apple was too good. She did remark on the amazing battery life - she used it all weekend without a charge (light user, heavy photographer). I'm hoping she'll come around. I tried Samsung for a few years so it's her turn anyway, but if she hates it we'll get another Samsung for her.

I'm not crazy about face id. It's works perfectly in ideal circumstances but with sunglasses or a mask or in the dark it doesn't work, requiring a two-handed passcode entry. The fingerprint unlock could be done with one hand all the time. Under screen fingerprint sensor will be the best solution when it's perfected.
I can't imagine how a jump from a 6 Plus to a 13 Pro Max would feel like. I'd imagine maybe it would feel like an alien's pocket computer or something at first.

I went from a 6 Plus to an 8 Plus and I was blown away at the improvement--and those phones looked similar with the home button and everything. But to a 13 Pro Max? A different era completely.

I loved my 6 Plus except when the 1GB of RAM would rear it's ugly head as the years passed by. It was brutal to use back in 2018 for me. I can't imagine now lol

On an iPhone X now and have 13 pro mac preordered but was going to wait for 14 for the even bigger upgrade. Just worried what I should do with the x as you can only get Ā£200 for it and it’s still such a capable phone works fine ( Face ID not working though not sure why). What should I do with my beloved X?

Pop it in a drawer and then find it again in 5 years once you’ve forgotten it ever existed is what most people do with their old tech unless trading it in or selling it.

Is there maybe a family member or friend who would benefit from it?

Imagine continually suggesting the battery is the only part of a phone that adds weight. Imagine ignoring all of the other phones Apple had created before now that weighed less.
Imagine a world where everyone was more accepting of opinions that were different than their own. Where you were happy that the 13 Pro owners were enjoying their phones, and they were happy that you were enjoying your 13 Mini. Imagine that. šŸ¤”šŸ¤”šŸ¤”

Isn’t it too heavy for you all?
It is noticeably heavier, yes. But at the same time I experience this illusion of better build quality and "serious Pro" device due to this… It's weird. But came from 12 Mini, soooo maybe not so weird?

No, the great cameras available today weren’t available back then.
Most people love taking pictures and it’s incredible how good the picture quality has become since iPhone 7.
I don’t want to go back, iPhones have been perfect since a couple of years already. The only improvement I seriously look at is the camera system.
And Apple keeps delivering.
