I’ve also come from an 11 pro (to a 13 pro) and I really miss the curved edges! (I don’t use a case, and I do often use the phone one-handed). Would love to see the curved edges make a return with the bezels slimmed down and a return to a lighter phone in future.
I felt that way at first, but I find the flat edges on the side make it easier to hold myself.

100% on board. I came from an X and it's just be absolutely mind-blowingly awesome. MagSafe is awesome, the screen is huge and gorgeous (pro max), cameras are phenomenal, the iOS is amazing - for years I could pass by as 'good enough' but now that i've pulled the trigger, I'm blown away, every day.

I'd say the single biggest complaint I see on these boards is that Apple is obsessed with thin and light at the expense of functionality. Yours is definitely an outlier observation, and if the phones were thinner and lighter but with fewer of the pro features, there'd be far far more complaints on here.
Its way too easy for Apple to add bulk, which is precisely what they have been at ever since the iPhone 6. I say add pro features and seek ways to keep making phones - these are still just mobiles - smarter and yet lighter and more advanced while keeping them lighter and stronger.

You will see lighter phones sometime in the future(near future I hope) when they advance technology battery and they become more energy dense and less massive. For now to get better battery life you need bigger batteries. Imagine if apple did go thinner at this stage of the game. The battery complaints would be through the roof. From most of what I read from new 13 owners they are willing to make the compromise to have more battery life even with added heft
True, and yet the 6 got us all thru the day no problem.

I upgraded from the 12 Pro Max to the 13 Pro Max. At first, it was underwhelming. After using it for about a week, the 12 Pro Max is noticeably less fluid. The ProMotion display is very granular/subtle at first, but then quickly becomes a top feature and easily detectable between the previous generations. The interface transitions feel “swoopy” to me, almost like I’m dipping a ladle into a bowl of punch, and the rendering does not soften as the interface elements and on-screen text/graphics move around. Hard to describe, but that gets close!

The camera is also less sluggish and klutzy, especially when transitioning between photo modes.

I agree with OP, and I recommend the upgrade from the 12 Pro Max, especially if you can avoid a big depreciation hit. Apple is offering $785 trade-in value.

That’s because we mostly used it for phone calls and text messages. This was back in 2014. my brother for example was still using flip phones. It wasn’t until social media went nuclear and people have notifications coming in every minute that battery became critical

What? People were doing the same things in 2014 that they are doing today. You are really stretching to find ways to discount previous devices in an effort to make the most current one seem incredible. In 2014, people were surfing the web, watching YouTube, using social media, etc.. Nothing has changed, except the phones are getting bigger and heavier. You’d think they would be getting lighter with more efficient chips and batteries.

I’ve had the iPhone 13 Pro for a bit over a week now, and to me, this just has to be the perfect smartphone. It feels like this is the pinnacle of what this product should be.

It’s the most beautiful and premium feeling phone I’ve ever used. The screen is gorgeous and so fluid. It’s big enough to feel immersive but not so big it’s unwieldy or uncomfortable. The performance is the best you can get, and everything is just so speedy. The cameras are insanely good. Battery life is better than I could’ve ever dreamed. I love MagSafe and its ecosystem more than I ever anticipated - so many options.

I’m just SO happy with this device. I loved my XS Max before this and while I was looking forward to the upgrade, I didn’t expect to feel this appreciative or this much of a difference. It feels like the almost decade and a half of the iPhone and its refinements has led to this perfect product.

Apple, kudos to you. It’s a shame reviewers are marketing this phone as a boring upgrade.
13 pro is great. 13 is terrible. 13 pro is more innovative, but 13 is just a camera switch.

I do think the iPhone 13 (pro in my case) is a worthwhile upgrade… if you don’t have the 12. I went from 11 pro max -> 13 pro. Phone is great. However, I don’t think reviewers are wrong for calling it a boring upgrade. It probably wasn’t meant to be an exciting upgrade. My guess is that will come next year.

We still had 16GB as the base storage. The first large screen iPhone debuted that year. Once the larger screens came, mass adoption and mass social media consumption would soon ensue.

so you went with the 13 Pro or max? wow didn't know apple was offering that much for trade in!

I don't know how anyone can think that it's the perfect phone. I still get so frustrated every time my 13 Pro Max's Face ID fails to recognize me with a mask on (when is Touch ID coming back?). Also, I would rather have a punch-hole rather than a notch.

And the new Do Not Disturb mode is a step back from before.

People were staring at their phones all day long in 2014. Batteries lasted all day. Were you not alive then? Social media is old now. It’s not a new fad.

I remember it clear as day. The measuring stick that I use is that women were still approachable. They weren’t as inundated with compliments. We still had a chance. Stop now. I’m right, you’re wrong.

Imagine a world where everyone was more accepting of opinions that were different than their own. Where you were happy that the 13 Pro owners were enjoying their phones, and they were happy that you were enjoying your 13 Mini. Imagine that. 🤔🤔🤔

You might want to do some research before trying to bait arguments with stupidity.
Guess you don't have much of an imagination.

Tell you one thing. I've used a + phone since the 6+ and ... I'm seriously tempted to get a 13 mini. Ever since I got an LTE watch last year, I leave my phone (12 Pro Max) home all the time because I'm tired of lugging it around. (And I'm not a small guy).

I am so close to getting a 13 mini. I'm just afraid that I'll miss the battery life (I rarely use 15% of my 12PM every day) and telephoto lens (which I rarely use anyway). I spend most of my day on my MBP and iPad Pro 11 anyway.

So tempted to get the 13 mini. Held one in the Apple Store just a few days ago and almost got it, but my better half thought I'd regret it, and the Apple Genius said why would I get rid of my lifted pickup truck and go to a smart car?

I'm 50% wanting a 13 mini.
I'm 50% wanting to keep my 12 Pro Max (104% battery capacity after a year of usage).

That said, my wife's 13 Pro Max looks AMAZING. She uses her phone heavily though. I rarely touch mine preferring my iPP 11.

It’s pretty easy to buy the phone and swap sims for 14 days. Think of it this way why buy the most expensive biggest phone if you hardly use it?

I upgraded From the 12 Pro and I agree with the OP, the 12 pro was a step down from the 11 pro IMO and the standard 12 was probably the better choice last year.

I’ve had every iPhone and only a few really stand out as perfect phones for that moment in time

iPhone 4, iPhone 5S, iPhone 7 and iPhone 11 Pro were all perfect and felt fully featured for the year they were released.

All the others always felt like they lacked something important at the time like more ram, great camera, great battery, larger displays, wireless charging, OLED, 120hz, etc etc

I still think the 13 Pro colours are dull but the device itself is just fantastic and has everything I need right now on a top device.

If the 14 goes for the punch hole camera then I’ll be getting that as well.

Had the 6S Plus then 8 Plus before upgrading to the 13 Pro, which fits nicely into pockets without the bulkiness. xD
Thought of upgrading to the 13 Pro Max but the store was sold out after opening weekend and weren't expecting more iPhone 13 models until sometime in Nov.
It's a nice phone. Have to get used to not having the Touch ID home button and swipe this and that now, which is a pain at times.
Battery life appears much better as I've only had it for a week so still testing out how the phone and apps affect battery life.
Watch out for some apps that are more battery hungry than others like various sleep apps and the chrome browser. One sleep app used up to ~40% overnight so had to recharge in the morning.

Been having trouble adjusting to the 13 Pro from the X. The extra weight and bulky shape is cramping my pinky and edges of my hand. Also weirdly seems less responsive. Flashlight and camera shortcuts on home screen are difficult to actually trigger. Same with the reachability swipe. Cameras also feel a bit unresolved. The widescreen view beyond the actual camera capture doesn't line up. Never had this issue with the X. Also what you see is no longer what you get. There's an obvious AI post-processing to photos which feels a bit strange, like a substitute for an actual lens improvement. I'm happy with the general increase in processing speed, but something about it feels clunkier all around.

The 13 mini is amazing and I don’t regret getting it at all. Came from an 8 Plus and was just sick of the bulk. Held my mate’s 8 Plus at the weekend and it was like holding a Fisher Price, Duplo version of a phone. These things *should* be small!

8 plus to 13 pro max - same size (almost to the mm) but much much better screen.
Thought I’d really miss Touch ID but really don’t. Apple Watch and FaceID works brilliantly with masks etc
