iPhone XS Max THE MAX IS A MESS

I'm always amused by posters like the OP. Some people are so insulated/egotistical/narcissistic they feel like their experience is EVERYBODY's experience. I've said this in several threads like this claiming the Max is a mess, not working, not worth it etc....my phone and my wife's phone have been fantastic. Noticeably faster than our previous 7+'s and zero issues at all.

I've had people claim that I'm just "not noticing" the issues...well, if you don't know you have a problem is it really a problem? If a tree falls and no body is around....

I suppose it comes down to culture. I wonder how Steve Jobs would feel about a problem that just "isn't noticeable" for some people.

The good thing about iPhones is that they have really good resale values. You can sell your max and recoup most of the money you paid for it. Then get yourself a note. Problem solved.
 
I don’t understand why people are so hostile

Op said he had a good experience on one software version and a bad experience with an update — why is that beyond belief?

You cannot believe people who have updated to every version the second it comes out for years and have never had a single problem. They must not be very observational.

There's that, yet the quarter has still been a very good one with a lot of profit and is their second best one ever. Hardly anything even remotely close to a "disaster".

There's not a problem having a problem, but the OP stated "THE MAX IS A MESS" and that's just not true. It's also not hostile to point out that 1 person's experience doesn't translate to a universal experience.

I must admit I learned the hard way once on here in the iOS section when I asked for advice on some lag I was experiencing with iOS 8. I got lambasted and called every nerdy insult you can think of lol. Apparently I worked for Samsung too! The lag did go after the following update though without the advice of my fellow iPhone chums

I’m happy with my XS. It’s a 64GB which is fine for me because I’m not a super hardcore use content on my phone person. We got two of them on Verizon for $1250.

iOS12 on it has been great. We also have the second generation iPad Pro 512GB and iOS12 runs great on it too. I’d sell it and get the new iPad but we have other things to deal with and the expendable cash is low at the moment.

I will say I was very skeptical of Face ID when it was announced. I was so wrong, on the iPhone XS it is amazing. TouchID is still nice but my iPad while fast feels old with the button.

I wouldn’t say that the new iPhones are bad. I think that they are expensive almost prohibitively but if it’s bought on sale it’s an amazing deal.

thats the device he's using for crappy iOS builds so it makes sense he would take it out on the device?

They could even be specific bugs to that hardware not on other devices. Or not.

But its fair to be upset he paid $1500, had a good experience, and an update with pretty much no new features but a headache. I think people need to have a little more empathy towards humans instead of rushing to defend corporations but thats just me

I think everyone knows the iPhone revenue declined and China was a significant downfall. However, the stout numbers Apple released are exceedingly great all around. 360 million paying subscribers and Overall 63% growth margin on services.

But does that take away that they had exceedingly strong sales in their second best quarter in their history? To me, the only thing I find funny, were those were mocking Apple with exacerbated threads calling for them to fail, yet, here they are showing how strong their second best quarter was.

I'm not trying to justify my purchase. I'm extremely happy with this phone - no justification needed. I'm sharing my opinion, which people can take or leave. Beyond that, I don't care.

What is pretty sad, though, is that someone like you would be "proud" to hate a device. Don't you have better things to do with your energy? How about choosing an Android model that retained the headphone jack and a button on the bottom? It's not that hard to find one that fits your preferences. Certainly easier than posting endless complaints about the design direction Apple has chosen and surely will stick to, which is highly popular with millions of people.

You're way off. The X set of a tsunami of hatred last year, far more than the Max has brought this year.

Why does everyone always bring up the bezels on the iPhone 8 design? Does this really bother anyone? I find that so hard to believe. And yes, this was the future design of the iphone... Apple made it about as damn near perfect as they could (minus the headphone jack). The future of definitely isn't in the X design. That's laughable.

Because the 8 is an awful design with no where near enough screen for the body of the phone

The future is the iPhone type design

A full sleet of glass is the future and that’s not that far away. Give me iPhone XS design over the 8 anyday

All I can say is I really like my max. While the apple bezels are classic, they are gone for good. Except maybe if apple releases an updated SE.(highly unlikely, IMO)

It’s subjective though isn’t it? There are still millions of us that quite like the 8 design. I know I’m very happy with the 8+ and think it looks really sleek in black. The newer models aren’t perfect but are still nice to look at. I wouldn’t suggest an iPhone looks ‘awful’ to be honest.

Folks I think I made it abundantly clear I like APPLE... my god we have more money in Apple products than a new vehicle cost.... but if you can’t see where a guy that has a family that has 6k worth of phones that are so terrible on WIFI they can’t be used and LTE data has to be used.... then you lack empathy.... I realize not everyone is having this issue... I also know through research many are.... a 1,300 device should not have WIFI issues especially this long. 12.1.2 broke this and it has been out long enough 12.1.3 didn’t fix it... you couple this with the FaceTime bug and my IPAD pro that was bent... it just feels like the mantra “just works” no longer applies... and that’s disheartening to me as someone who watches the keynotes, and buys everything they sell like many of you do here. Perhaps my thread should have been entitled “our XS devices are a mess”. Verbiage aside our phones have been rendered pretty terrible for a couple months now and I expect better from any manufacturer that sells a premium product. For years apple has sold me reliable devices that just worked. Objectively, I will give them the benefit of the doubt with this year’s releases which FOR US have been riddled with issues as aformentioned. Both software and hardware.
 
Strange, the XS Max is by far the best piece of phone gear I've ever owned. It's beautiful, it's powerful, it's fast, and it's had absolutely no issues. You either have a faulty phone, or more likely you get attention by posting negative crap about apple products. Either way you are totally wrong about the Max. Good luck with your future purchases.

Ignore the Apple die-hards on this site. It's well known that the Xs and Xs Maxx have a bad antenna design. Just because some people live in areas with decent mobile data reception does not mean there is not an issue. There are also many reports of WiFi issues on these devices.

I don’t know man, the XS has turned out to be a solid phone with little to no complaints since I got it. No annoying “gates” or issues with the software (iOS12 is the snow leopard of iOS... aka almost bullet proof).
