Never understood this specific complaint. It is a nothing burger. It keeps its charge for weeks or even months. You have a phone and watch and Mac and tablet to remind you to charge it every few weeks or every month. Plug it in overnight. PRoblem solved.

It triggers everyone. I love it.
Yes 😁 I hope they will keep it forever like that.

it's pretty easy to understand why a lot of you find this upsetting, as it's an inconvenient placement for the port.

as far as actual productivity goes, it's fairly irrelevant. the battery life is incredibly long, and if it's anything like my logitech mx master 3s, a minute of charge gives hours of use.

leave your desk for any significant period of time while charging this thing, and it'll last a while.

this is fairly a non issue other than:
-you dont like the way it looks when charging
-you entirely forgot to charge it, ever, in a month's span of use and suddenly have to give up 60s of work to give it juice
-the port position is odd, at worst
Stop being rational on here. It is embarrassing.

I may be in the minority, but despite it making more sense to move it, having it on the bottom has never been a major problem for me. If it hits zero, plug it in, stand up, stretch, take a walk, etc. When you come back 5 miutes later, it has enough charge to last you several more hours. Then just plug it in at the end of the day, and BOOM, 100% the next morning.

I admit I just came to this thread to see the impotent rage and whining about something that is, to paraphrase your post, a complete non-issue. The MR commentariat has not disappointed 🤣

I've used a MM on my work machine for years and it's completely easy to keep charged, since it only needs charging every few weeks or month. Charge it after work, charge it on a day off, whatever. I have never ever lost even one moment of productivity due to where the charging port is located. Thanks to my ability to, umm, check the mouse battery level once a month I managed to dodge that bullet.

The OS gives us the tools to check battery level easily. These complaints look really silly to those of us who manage to live with the MM with zero problems.

If I were Apple I'd put the charge port on the bottom of all MacBooks.

Let that be your punishment for all your whining about the mouse charge port. Now go clean your office.

Honestly asking, what shortcomings are there with it other than the charging port? I use one daily for 8 hours a day and the only thing that drives me nuts is the charging port when it runs low and dies. Otherwise I love the gestures and everything else about it.
The resolution and sensitivity is terrible. The fact that it has no built-in logic to prevent accidental scrolling from resting your fingers on the button area or clicking is insane. It also is a bit heavy and doesn't glide as well as other mice.

I say these things as a fan of the Magic Mouse. I love the design, and nothing else has scrolling that even comes close. I can't stand using Logic Pro without it. The fact that almost all other mice are still using a tiny click-wheel that only goes vertically is mind-boggling to me.

Apple could make a much better mouse if they wanted, but they won't because they don't care for it to be a pro or gaming device.

Clearly you are a mutant of some sort. It's the crippling arm cramp and sore fingers it gives most people.

It's a wireless mouse.
Yes, and wireless chargers still use wires, not to mention they have a coil inside, which is just a lot of wire. ”Wireless” is like adding ”pro” to a product. It just means it costs more than the regular one and probably isn’t as power efficient.

Thank you! The skates are atrocious.

I've always derided the lack of scroll wheel click and scrolling with momentum (although I know you can disable that)

Using it with any 3d software is a nightmare.
The lack of smooth momentum scrolling, especially on a iPad that doesn’t have options to fake it with software, is about the only upside to using the Magic Mouse. Any other mouse would be welcome otherwise

Don’t care about the port (although I agree it’s kind of dumb and humorous but whatever). DO care about the ergonomics. I’ve never used the mouse due to the latter. Honestly the last good mouse Apple ever made was the ADB II. That said, I recently discovered that companies sell snap on “grips” for the Magic Mouse that raise it up so I might try that. I’ve always liked the idea of the touch gestures but absolutely cannot handle the horrible ergonomics.

LOL, lost interest in the magic mouse for basically this feature. Seems like  still thinks this is a good idea. LOL

Thinking on this, I was a switcher around d the time the G3 iMac came out. Coming from a PC with numerous and splendid options for mouse input (surprisingly Microsoft is so good here), it always struck me as odd that a company so focused-in on the ergonomics of computing just couldn’t make a mouse that was more than just a resounding meh. The examples since then are numerous with the puck being the worst offender but I really don’t see that Apple has ever had a first-class mouse. Is it passable? Absolutely. But considering how long it took Apple to begrudgingly accept a second mouse button, I just adjusted my expectations accordingly and bought better peripherals. What perplexes me are the die-hard Mac fans that perhaps have never used anything else and fail to see how middling Apple’s offerings have always been. It’s a lot of little things too- tracking is just OK, skates feel odd, it’s the whole thing. I personally believe Apple makes a lousy mouse but more than makes up for it with the trackpad. The fact that they don’t think they need to include anything more robust and considered in their consumer-facing desktop is a bit of a shock.
