As usual critics are out of step with the viewers. There was always a disconnect here but this gap has widened over the last few years. In general I feel critics go out of their way to differ from the masses, almost as a way to generate clicks. As most media is available at the time of review I don't even bother with them anymore. Just watch a show and make your own mind up.

I actually expected to dislike the show but it’s surprisingly my favorite of the bunch
I still don't know how I feel about it. I watched all three eps on launch day, and the last couple the day they came out. But when people ask me if it's good, all I can say is "I watched all the eps." I guess it's safe to say I enjoy it. Maybe it's just because I like the cast for the most part. I guess if it were truly bad I wouldn't watch.
Really enjoying what I've seen of Dickinson though...

Isn't this line of argument akin to victim blaming?!?

It's not the show stinking. It's that the audience is messed up.
When you don't know what victim blaming means.

Or.....the high audience score is a result of the apple shills, who haven't watched a show, who simply want to make Apple look in a positive light, no matter the truth, as we see so often on this very website.
This website is not representative of the general public. The general public doesn't visit tech forums or care about Apple as much as anyone here does. Apple shills are not the reason for the show's popularity given they're a very small niche group. It always amazes me when people think the demographics here are representative of the whole.

The movies that win all the awards are the ones I never watch. The more the critics like some the less I typically do. The opposite is also true.

Oh, and I love the Morning Show and the Elephant Queen.

love apple since 1998. Apple TV+ is garbage. Weak creators who couldn’t sell pitches to other networks.
Wow, you probably haven't watched any of them. For All Mankind is the best show since Halt and Catch Fire, The Morning Show, is surprisingly good as I have usually hated Jennifer Anniston, See was not so interesting.

100% true. I see haters on Macrumors EVERYDAY that are foaming at the mouth to see AppleTV+ fail. I also see them on Twitter and in the media.
It was the same story when the Apple Watch came out. "Garbage", "will fail within 6 months". I guess people comment without ever trying the product :D

The series is just plain awful. As a big Apple admirer, on the contrary I wanted to really like the show, but it is truly horrendous. While it is technically okay, the story, acting and editing is just horrible.
Review of episode one says it all: https://www.tvore.com/?page=episode&id=23461

And I am so bored by the comments of showrunners who cannot accept that they simply failed artistically and come up with lame excuses such as people "wanting to" dislike the series because of the studio. Please, find me a single person on this planet who likes or dislikes movies or series based on the studio... What a bunch of BS. And the comment on "the people" loving it? Sure, I can find people hating The Godfather and loving The Room, that will not make them right. Please.

But on another note, while I think The Morning Show just sucks, I still believe Apple TV+ will, on the long run, blow away the competition. You cannot just start with a show that will have the same impact as Game of Thrones. Things take time.

I like the Morning Show so far. It’s a bit uneven at times, and the excessive Apple product placement breaks the fourth wall and is a bit tacky, but the show is entertaining.

Next year consumers will have the choice of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Disney+, HBO Max, Peacock.......and then the microscopic blip Apple TV+.

I don't see Apple making any kind of dent with their tiny catalog.
Most will get all of them and ditch cable.

And on the contrary, I think the show is great. See, different opinions.

So you mean, YOU are right, and the rest is wrong? How does that work?

I would really take this with a grain of salt. Rotten tomatoes is just one metric of many that people use to pre judge things or confirm their bias.
Most people don't even rate what they watch.
[automerge]1574272546[/automerge]
Why is it that when Hollywood releases subpar material, they blame some group of "haters" for low ratings or profitability?
Because its human nature to blame others

Just like every profession on Earth, critics are always susceptible to bias. Be it from personal or business relationships, or from professional or financial incentives. I never trust a word I read. I've lost count of the amount of absolutely terrible movies I've seen that were actually great. The only review I care about is my own, and so far I'm hugely enjoying The Morning Show. What the critics think of it is neither here nor there.

Going back to Netflix, even with their experience they still invested in 'The OA' - that show was utter trash.
I enjoyed both seasons of The OA. And the critics gave season 2 a score of 92% (Certified FRESH).

If you're arguing that maybe the critics don't like The Morning Show because it's not good, then bringing up The OA doesn't help your argument. The critics like a show that you think is "trash".

I watched the first episode of The Midichlorian, I mean Mandalorian, and was mostly bored. I'm not a big fan of westerns, so it's not that surprising. The surprising revelation at the end of the episode has me intrigued, so I'm glad I didn't turn it off midway through. I'll probably watch episode 2 to see where there going with it. Clearly Disney is spending a lot of money on it. That doesn't guarantee it will be good, but it does indicate they believe in it.

I also like For All Mankind. I find myself looking forward to new episodes each for it and The Morning Show.

Dickinson is okay, but after watching a half hour of it, I don't feel the need to immediately watch the next episode. I was kind of hoping it would be about Susannah Dickinson, who lived a very colorful life around the same time as Emily.

I haven't seen See. The premise doesn't appeal to me, but I'll probably give it a chance at some point.

I think that is the case for casual movie watchers. The award movies tend to favor movies that are actual good movies, technically. They have good cinematography, excellent dialog, character development. They are not necessarily the most entertaining movies, but people who appreciate movies like them. I hope that makes sense? I know I will like those movies, but I also know that 85% of my friends/family will not. Green book is the first movie that comes to mind.

I guess as much. The criticism likely came from people with an axe to grind, who then went to the press in an attempt to hurt Apple’s chances to win over future talent or content deals. I pointed out the apparent disconnect on rotten tomatoes some time back and it’s nice to see this point being corroborated here.

Moving forward, I believe that Apple TV+ has enough content to grab tens of millions of subscribers. Assuming an annual budget of 2 billion and the average customer paying $50 a year, the magic number is 40 million subscribers. Should be quite achievable for Apple.

Using a curated feed of content revolving around compelling storytelling to get users to watch the TV app, in turn promoting other tv bundles and earning the subscription revenue. Granted, there will be detractors who still can’t wrap their heads around Apple doing original content, and think Apple should still be working on routers and cinema displays, but I genuinely think Apple is on to something with Apple TV+ and the Apple TV app.

This proves nothing. Have you ever heard of fake reviews/ratings? Companies buy them all the time. There's a "black market" that sells them. I know where to buy them. YouTube likes/comments, Facebook/instagram likes, amazon reviews, yelp reviews, etc. With apple being a marketing powerhouse and with the recent incident of game of thrones, I think they were prepared in advanced to handle any negative feedback. I'm not confirming apple faking user reviews, I'm just saying these can be bought/faked for cheap, so these "user" reviews are not nesesarily proof of anything.

FWIW I don’t have any interest in any of their current shows and hated the little I saw of TMS and See. But I’ll 100% continue after the free year is up. If Apple has a subscription, might as well buy it.

Clients often approach me for positive user reviews too. I usually decline. But not always. This is how agencies work.

You think the "general population" is watching this show? It's overrating is a fanboy minority as the majority are watching better content & regardless don't give a toss about adding to the score on rotten tomatoes. I don't need critics to tell me something is mediocre or cultists to scream how great the Kool-Aid tastes.

This is the best new content on TV actually.

LIke anything, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But, using short term Rotten Tomatoes scores (especially Audience scores) is not necessarily a good indicator.
I had a vague awareness of the critics' consensus, and no awarenesses of the audience score, when I started watching The Morning Show. I found that I liked it.

Here's my philosophy: If I like something that the critics don't, then the critics are wrong (or at least they are very unhelpful in determining what will be worthwhile for me).

If I like something that the critics also like, then they are very insightful.

I apply the same criteria to audience scores and to opinions of random individuals on the Internet.

No, reviews from real news sources that say the show isn't quality. Most people in the general public can't judge what's good or not. That's what Taylor Swift's entire career is based on.
If you ask me, the opinion of some elitists who are out of touch with the population should matter far less than that of the general public, aka the target consumers.

Tomato meter is currently fresh at 63% so it's not exactly viewed as terrible though I do think reviews sometimes have to be taken with a grain of salt. I've only watched the first 2 episodes so far and I've enjoyed it, I don't know if it's the best show out there but I'm far more interested in finishing the series than I am Dickenson which has been raved about and I couldn't bring myself to finish the first episode, not yet anyway.
