A) It's not about what you want, it is about what Apple can sell. They released the 2013 MP and it took 4 years before they admitted that there were issues and it will take another year or two before they will do anything about it. Why did it take so long? Probably because they were still selling well despite the complaints.
B) Apple isn't about providing what you wanted 20 years ago (USB) but what it thinks it can make you want.

For those that can't handle change there are still jobs for COBOL programmers. Keypunch operators, probably not.

I can't tell if you're just trolling the forums or not at this point.

Apple still has USB on all their computers, just none of their iOS devices. It's still widely used for all kinds of things.

Nothing Apple has done suggests iOS will be used on desktops, so pretending that we're just old-fashioned and "can't handle change" is something you've made up from a hypothetical question.

Come on, this whole thread is hypothetical. It provides almost no real information. The only thing real is people's opinions. I guess what I am trying to say is that we all can say what we want in a new mini but Apple's success has been in giving us what we didn't know we wanted. The incremental releases were just to keep things going until the next surprise. Right now Apple has done neither recently for the mini so anything they release should be encouraged, not rejected outright no matter what it is. Be open to possibilities. (For whatever reason Apple didn't keep this going - first with the MP and now mini. But as there still is a market it sounds like they are getting back on track for at least the MP.)

The traditional USB connector is gone on Apple's new laptops. Now it is TB3/USB-C with lots of kicking and screaming from some on this forum. It doesn't matter that it is technically still USB as you need adapters.

Yes, it was a what-if but stating that you won't buy a mini with IOS without consideration sounds like the definition of can't handle change.

BS. I gave you a bunch of reasons as to why iOS would be poorly suited for a desktop computer.

I haven't heard a single benefit of using iOS but I can list a ton of drawbacks. Why not tvOS or watchOS on a desktop? ;)

If someday Apple starts to tailor iOS for desktops, then who knows.

You can't just claim people "can't handle change" when you propose something that's in every single way worse than before. :p I love change when things become better.

And I stated your points were being addressed but you did not agree. Now you gave your opinion for something that you haven't even seen: "in every single way worse than before."

I didn't state any benefits to IOS as I'm not pushing for it on the mini, just stating that it could be made to work. It is the applications that matter in the end, not the operating system.

tvOS or watchOS on a desktop - That's funny! Especially since Apple gave them APFS first and is now touting it as a benefit of HS. There is overlap so more pieces of IOS will be coming to macOS whether we want them or not. Remember the App Store started on IOS.

"and we still find things to argue about!"

... and we come to learn just how "personal" the PC really is - which is a good thing i think since it is just a box through which we impart a world of things (personality). There's hope ... maybe not for the Mini.

Fearless prediction:
USB as a connection technology will be around decades after thunderbolt is gone and forgotten (like firewire)...

But the Mac Mini is a desktop and the iMac refresh came and they still have USB-A so I would bet any new mini will also have USB-A ports.
[doublepost=1498853489][/doublepost]I almost bought a dell today. A cheap moderately spec'd dell tower that could run circles around the best mini you can buy right now. I was about to walk out of the store with it. But I just had this feeling that this fall Apple will update the mac mini to match the 21" iMac specs. If they offer the same combos of quad core processors along with AMD graphics, I will be so happy. If nothing happens this fall, Apple will likely lose me as a mac customer because i just can't wait any longer and I won't spend $1500 on an iMac when I don't need a screen, camera, keyboard, or mouse.

I hope we get a new quad core mini. Man imagine that, with pcie and all of the newest tech? Imagine how fast it would be!
I think pcie might be a stretch to ask for. That said, with a decently sized SSD, a decent quad core processor, and eGPU support, the Mini wouldn't have to be a strictly low-end desktop.

Put in something like a Kaby Lake (or next generation) quad i7, 16 or 32 GB of RAM, 500 GB or 1 TB SSD, and external graphics support in High Sierra, and you have a system that has the potential to pack quite a punch. And with current technology and pricing based on iMac pricing, you can easily do this in the +/- $1500 range depending on options for RAM and storage size (even including the Apple Tax). Sure, you'd have to buy your own eGPU hardware for another $500+, but that would include a GPU that can be upgraded and a TB3 enclosure that should be good for a while. All in, that's a pretty solid rig for probably little more than $2,000 toward the higher end configuration -- if you have your own display already. The problem is, Apple wants to make you buy another (built-in) display.

AMD and Nvidia GPUs are non existent because of the Ethereum Mining rush going on now and probably into the future for sometime at a reasonable price at least for the good ones.

I think the problem will be resolved in a few months -- whether because so many people are "mining" that it no longer seems profitable, or the manufacturers can deal with the shift in demand (some already are starting to produce cards with no outputs specifically for miners).

Yeah, unless your a professional miner buying cards with no video ports will not be resalable in my opinion. I have 2 GTX 1070s running for fun and some extra retirement income but I'll sell one of my cards off when it's no longer profitable to run them. The frenzy may end in a hurry when the blockchain method changes and all these people putting together expensive rigs will be stuck with them.

Apple probably won’t release an iPhone 8, 7s, or 7s Plus this year.
Likely they have all their engineers working on the new Mini.
Thanks for the laugh.

As to mining Apple most likely has made a bad decision. If they had kept the 2010 mac pro design
You could earn money while sleeping thus making the price bearable.

I have a lenovo m700 got it last labor day for 300 usd. I pulled the pentium g4400t out and put in a i7 6700t I sold the pentium on ebay for 50 and purchased the i7 6700t on ebay for 222.
so the upgrade was about 180. I added 2 16gb sticks of ram they were cheap lat year.
about 150. Lastly I put in a 1tb western digital ssd for 289 so 300 +180 + 150 + 289 = 919 I use a 48 inch 1080 tv as my screen. This is pretty much a killer ht and development rig.

An iMac with 1 tb ssd and 32 gb ram with an i7 is over 3599. And the setup I have is about 1800.
Graphics would be better on the iMac the rest pretty much equal. but my pc is the size of a mac mini. If I go for a tower I can have a better setup then the iMac for 2500 with graphics included.
Plus it will mine while I sleep earning 5 bucks a day or more. Apple has pretty much destroyed its pc division for no real or good reason that I can see.

Bestbuy sells a tower with a 1080 ti for 1600. So boost the ram from 16gb to 32gb add 200 cost 1800 boost the ssd from 120gb to 1tb cost 289 so 2100 add a tosiba 49 inch 4k for 400 and 2500 vs 3600. Apple had an edge due to the os which they butchered for ios.

I come back to this thread to lament once or twice a month. Can't wait till their leadership changes.

The base Mac Mini has been available for immediate dispatch for weeks now, in the UK refurb store.

For the past couple of years they only appear every so often, and sell out right away.

Obviously there's a new Mac mini coming, right away - definitely, for sure.

2 of 3 models on JohnLewis.com are out of stock and have been for the last week or two…

Amazon.co.uk appear to have limited stock, too. I also noted the influx of refurb units on Apple.com.

I wonder what is up. I wish we could request the rumour-mongers look into this for us; it seems their attention is forever on iPhone these days : /
