Apple is focusing on where the money is, and it's never, ever, been in the Mac Mini. That they still make the thing surprises the heck out of me and is actually a sign of Apple caring about those customers at least a little by continuing to offer them a model that, crippled as it may be, they still find a use for.
Absolute drivel. Apple doesn't care one bit - it is a huge, obscenely rich corporation whose only concern is the pursuit of profits and a return for shareholders. The Mac mini doesn't exist out of altruism - it exists as a begrudging way to allow people to buy a new Mac on a budget. Apple exhibits their contempt for this market (and the Pro desktop users, too) by peddling an ancient clunker at a sky-high margin. See? There's those profits again.

But here's the thing - whether it's the Mini, Pro, Macbook, Air etc - ALL these devices contribute to the bottom line. Not just from sales, but from the simple fact that iOS development cannot happen without a Mac of some sort. If Apple is truly "focusing on where the money is" they would do well to remember that the iPhone/iPad ecosystem wouldn't exist without the Macs that build the apps.

Intel is starting to End of Life the Haswell product line, so at some point Apple will have to update the mini......

Quite frankly with the amount of money I'll be spending this week on iPhones, Apple Watches, and Apple TVs, not sure I can afford a new Mac mini.

Ah who am I kidding..? Apple, please, think of the children.

When I read you "bending over backwards to excuse Apple" All I can think of is this ...

... there's a "collective" brilliance here and for that I'm thankful ... skirt around the edges, lurk a bit, grab details, enlist help with problems, learn about things and why they may be important, enjoy a good rant and watch the cat fights ... not bad while waiting since "the new Mac Mini is almost certainly coming tomorrow!"

Under Cook's leadership products have taken a second place to profit. Choice is constantly been removed from the product set and it wasn't that long ago that Apple made great computers. Now they just make a couple of very thin ones because that's apparently all we need.

OK, it's now or never! If no new mini intro'd today, I'm officially signing its death certificate. My Late 2014 mid-tier model is still going strong, but with limited 4K support, it's feeling a bit dated.

Your 2014 mid-tier model is feeling a bit dated? Some of us are still using a Core 2 Duo Mac mini from 2010. But I'm not paying 2017 prices for a CPU that was introduced in 2013, with a slow 5400RPM hard drive in the low-end model especially after Apple showed "SSD" in their last Mac mini keynote slide as if all models had it. That was completely disingenuous.

The same dilemma applies to the MacBook Air for the CPU.

I wouldn't buy a Late 2014 model either, if I was you. But that doesn't mean that I feel we're still way overdue for an upgrade. Honestly mine still runs pretty well. Lack of 4K support is annoying, as it's my daily 24/7 computer, and every other computer/laptop in the house supports 4K.
