Tim showed depth and emotion today - I sense it was real and with that I wish he would revive the "Mac ethos" in the name of SJ. Yes sir, a 3-tier Modular Mac that has "the future" written all over it with ports, horsepower, graphics and a chassis that evolves like the iPhone from which new derivations simply build upon.

Yes - Let's remember (SJ) him well!

I'd be curious to know how many different iPhones have been released since the Mac Mini was last updated?

10 different iPhones have been released since the last Mac mini:
  1. iPhone 6 (2014–2016)
  2. iPhone 6 Plus (2014–2016)
  3. iPhone 6S (2015–present)
  4. iPhone 6S Plus (2015–present)
  5. iPhone SE (2016–present)
  6. iPhone 7 (2016–present)
  7. iPhone 7 Plus (2016–present)
  8. iPhone 8 (2017–present)
  9. iPhone 8 Plus (2017–present)
  10. iPhone X (2017–present)

I think the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were introduced a month or so before the 2014 Mac mini was announced, so that would make it technically only 8 iPhones. But yeah, clearly Apple's main priority is the iPhone, and who can blame them?

All words and nothing to say. A broken down record player if ever there was one.

Your insistence on being an Apple apologist is just embarrassing. And yet you seem to have no idea.

Simply put, stand-alone spinners in 2017 are an abomination, a thing to be despised and ridiculed. And so too to any fool who stands up to defend them.

Finally, someone who gets it. Thank you. Spinners died a few years ago. Anyone who says they are OK with a 5400 spinner as the main HDD is insane. The hell with choice. I CHOOSE to have a modern computing experience because it is 2017. Why would anyone choose anything less? To save $10? Really?
You are entitled to your narrow minded opinion, but despising, ridiculing and calling a fool those with different point of view is not becoming.

I am no Apple apologist, but I am pleased to see that in their wisdom they have seen fit to continue to offer a choice of HDD, Fusion Drive or SSD options to suit a range of requirements and budgets.

You should be pleased to see they offer an option to suit your desires.

Maybe because he is currently using an 8 year old computer and talking on a $25 cellphone? ;)

Seriously, I think it's great that those things meet his needs. But I have a problem with his attitude about anyone who expects better from Apple. And if the "geeks and dilettantes" label doesn't fit, then we're just cheapskates expecting a Mac Pro for the price of a Mini.
There is a Mac Mini in the current line up to suit a range of needs. For those whose need is not pressing, the new Mac Mini is almost certainly coming.

Those whose need or desire is beyond what a Mac Mini can deliver, should look elsewhere; it is certainly not the only option.

Now you are just getting rude.

Yes, Micky Do is almost certainly becoming rude. Maybe his beloved old cat (Mountain Lion) is getting grumpier?
If you feel they are rude and objectionable, please feel free to report my post(s) or ignore me. I don't give a hoot.

Another Apple Special Event and still no new Mac mini.

Urgh. mini RIP

What, no Mini announcement today?? Sigh.
To ya'll, here's a common sense reply……..

Well, since this was an iOS-specific event, it's not really surprising.

My Spidey sense tells me they didn't have time to announce the new Mac mini in today's keynote so they will save the announcement for the October event.
Yup, latter this year seems favourite….. let's see.

Time to start accepting that the Mini has gone the same way as the Dodo?

Nah…….

Mac mini never die

The new Mac Mini is almost certainly coming.
Almost certainly eternally, for the time being at least.

Apple deserves some credit - we talk of abandoning the hardware and/or the software but I don't think anyone wants to abandon the "way".

The "way" Apple computing comes together - the ecosystem and synergy of the whole thing (formerly maybe) but that's the issue for me - the reason for the hope - the reason I don't like some of the changes. Sure I can change the phone, the desktop and the peripherals but I would certainly regret the "way" I move forward with other products and would expect my eventual return to Apple if I left.

I like being part of the community and using products from a company that has changed the world (in mostly positive ways). It was second nature to expect quality from Apple and we've come to expect ground-breaking releases with new features not a re-hash of things that "just worked" and changes for the sake of control and profit.

Apple has been acting badly and we love them - if only we had the power to scold them into shape once again.

You have your opinion. I have mine. I'd continue typing, but my spinner has not finished booting yet.

Apple is sending out a survey for the Mac mini. Both myself & my buddy got one. It asks about the Mac mini & if you still own or use one. Personally I replaced mine with the MacBook m5 2016 a few weeks ago. But it looks like Apple is trying to decide what to do with the product.

Sending out a survey?! - I've got 3 of those puppies and nobody sent me a survey. You'd think they'd send one to each member on this forum. I just can't believe that - "really" - if I still use one!

Apple should have the resources to conduct thorough forensics in terms of the active user-base - a survey alone just doesn't sound reasonable. Furthermore they should be telling us why we still need one - why its worthy of a healthy upgrade - why its ergonomics satisfies so many applications and most importantly why it's price-point makes owning a Mac affordable and desirable.

I've had three Mac minis since the G4 days, still using a mid-2010 Mac mini right now. I haven't received a survey either.

Care to share the link, being careful to remove any identifications?

Here is the email I got and when I did the survey it was for the Mac mini. It won't let me back into the survey because it says I already completed the survey.

The thing is ... Apple acknowledged mis-steps with the MacPro ... that's sort of epic for Apple and hence you'd think they'd want users to know and believe in their plans to correct the mess ... even though desktops are ho-hum (and there are many custom rigs) they're a strong foundation. I truly think Apple is out of ideas - surely they should expect great scrutiny going forward ... sort of "walking the plank" with the bottom and top tiers languishing. Clearly a lack of attention ... and a survey for the Mac Mini - I tend to think it's a flyer that fell through the cracks and got published ten years too late.

5k mac pro? unless somebody crazy want to put 3k graphics card vega

at my age ... I see only one more lineage of desktops before I'm ready to give up this seat and reduce my computing footprint to a tablet or laptop by which time the technology should be at a place where I'm just as able for my needs.

So ... "God Damn it Apple", make it a good one this time - yes, take my money but carry my imagination and future needs into the next decade!
