I'll be blunt and go old school in this joint, I wish Apple would hash out whether they're going to update the Mini, and weed out the narcs that just don't want to s(pli)ff up the Mini and oil the skids a bit. My 2012 Minis are chronic(ly) getting old - I want a new Mini that will smoke my 2012 quad-core.

I don't mean to stir the pot, bud - welcome to Page 420 of this Thread. Roll with it…

I think there is a Catch-22 situation here

Apple haven't updated the Mac Mini so no one is buying it because it is out of date

No one is buying the Mac Mini so Apple can't see the point in updating it

That's what happens when a company can't be bothered to update a computer in four years, then makes an abysmal update with CPUs that are three generations behind (or is it four now?) and on top of that increases the price of said computer. It's like they want the Mac mini to fail.

No one is buying the MacPro either which says the core market is AIO and mobility devices. It might be wise for them to consolidate both ends of the product-line and build on a "tried and true" topology and ergonomics that fits with the stoic community of headless desktop users (us) - make a killer machine that will keep us quiet for the next 7-10 years.

I can only imagine what you would have said if you wanted a MacPro ....

Well I went to school back in the 60's but evidently that school wasn't old enough, because I have no idea what you were trying to say. :D

They just cant update the Mac mini for one reason ,

using today technology , you can make a Mac mini size PC with GTX 1070 and i7 inside. and this will destroy their stupid Imacs with RX580 cards.

I had three Mac minis so far: the 2007, 2010, and 2014 models. I still use the 2014 one every day. Yesterday Apple sent me a survey, asking me several questions about my experience with the Mac mini and what I wanted on a new model. This is what I told them I wanted:

Make it a little smaller while keeping all its ports
Upgrade all USB and Thunderbolt ports to USB 3.1 gen 2 ports, maybe add a few more
Keep the Ethernet, headphone, and SD card ports
Use only SSD for storage

Hopefully Apple will implement the changes I suggested and a new Mac mini is almost certainly coming.

Please ... will one of the Mini gurus compose a form letter that includes all the technical jargon about chips, graphics, ports and buses that we can only dream of and submit it to the forum so we can all chime-in when our surveys arrive. Call me a doubter but it seems a little too naive for Apple not to know what we want or not to have a vision for what a cutting-edge headless desktop computer should be in 2017.

An i7 with a 1070 would instantly become my Mac of choice.

At what price and what's the market potential for such a device?
This is the problem.. its not going to move the share price forward.

The problem is the phone is @70% of apples profit, where as the mini is a small % of the mac which is @9%
From a business point of view you have to see the reality without the emotion of an owner. It's all about the stock price.

Apple are no doubt happy to receive any and all contribution - hell look at the MBA, but investment is going where the money is.

Well the only options now are the Mini is EOL'd when either the CPUs/chipsets are no longer available or it will receive a complete overhaul (which would most likely then be launched with the new Mac Pro and displays in 2018).

If they were going to keep the existing chassis with a CPU/chipset update, that would have happened at WWDC.

Those whose need or desire is beyond what a Mac Mini can deliver, should look elsewhere; it is certainly not the only option.
I need (want) a headless mac. What options do I have? Good ones?

Here is the email I got and when I did the survey it was for the Mac mini. It won't let me back into the survey because it says I already completed the survey.
So, can you post that link, which is in that blue button?

Better they held off. We're going to want HDMI 2.1 support. ;)
Well, mini is always one gen behind in tech, so if they deliver new Mini after hdmi2.1 is on the shelf, Mini would have 2.0. Which is a good thing.

And if you don't agree with this post, you must be smoking something.

Stopped in my new local Apple store and the mini was nowhere to be seen. There was a Mac Pro on one table with two monitors The second monitor was hooked up to a Macbook Pro.

Does anyone's local Apple store still have minis?
