But the point is it's not officially supported.

Not sure what you mean. Users replacing the hard drive wasn't "supported" in my 2009 mini, and that was *way* harder to get into. Wasn't "supported" on my 2011 MBP, yet I did that more times than I can count. What do you mean exactly?

Honestly ... should there NOT be a lawsuit (siting consumer protection act of some kind) towards Apple even offering a 4yr old computer for current year sales pricing?

This is disgusting and should be a stain on Apple's delicious logo !! No bonuses should ever been paid out for all of these years with this!

Come-on Apple do the consumers right!

Lawsuit is a bit much, but given that Apple is already taking 2011 models off the supported list for Mojave, will the 2014s still on sale see a similar thing not much more than three years from now? Sure, they will get a minimum of three years' support (would be crazy for an unsupported system to still be on Applecare), I think, but how much more?

By Apple's system the 2011 models are 'Vintage' or just past the Vintage stage. Vintage machines are ONLY serviced in Cupertino, CA ... not authorized service centers.

So will the 2014's follow suit and will they instead get Vintage in 5yrs (2018-2023) which is 2yrs pre-maturely?

It has to be one reason for discontinuing the 2014 model, so they can stop having to support it with the latest macOS when it goes vintage. At the moment, Apple would probably feel obligated to support it till 2023. Remember base models come with 4Gb RAM and a traditional hard disk.

New hope on the 16th. There is a wallet with 7964 = 16.10 and and a wallet with a camera symbol. Looks like a little hint from Apple

No, that is not how it works. The "countdown" starts when they discontinue a computer, not when it was introduced. So if they discontinue the 2014 Mini today, it will still be supported until 2024.

"Vintage products are those that have not been manufactured for more than 5 and less than 7 years ago."

What is interesting is that the mac mini 2011 non-server, isn't listed on either the vintage or obsolete list.

The fourth anniversary of the 2014 Mini will soon be upon us. You could have graduated from college in that time or had a family. Either the 2014 Mini is a timeless classic or Apple is taking the total p!ss out of consumers.

Either way, it’s very embarrassing to see how much smaller my UPGRDABLE NUC is to this clunker.

Steve would fire every executive if he were here today for their shameful contempt of consumer.

Been looking at NUCs. This one is tempting.

I bought one recently and bolted it under my desk. It’s an excellent little computer and I prefer it to my 2012 Mini nowadays.

I used to think Apple made $#!t computers back before I got my first iBook in 2004 since those were generations of great models that followed. Now my kit is 2011 iMacs, 2012 Mini, and 2014 MBP. I got a 2017 MBA purely because I gave my 2010 MBA to a relative.

The latest gen of Macs just suck.

4540S, Z800.... been there, done that.

I just cannot be arsed with the system updates and the issues that come from them.

I traded my way faster dual processor Z800 for a Mac Pro (6,1) and paid over $1500 to "downgrade" just for the convenience factor of not having to rejig it every time a new update comes out.

I went with a Hackintosh for my desktop for over 2 years but got tired of some issues. After I worked through some hardware issues that I blamed on MacOS/drivers, it generally worked fine but I noticed that one of the updates last summer broke USB3 again.

Right now, that OS image is working in virtualization, but a new Mini would let me move it back to genuine Apple hardware. I generally use my MacBook pro daily.

I used a 2008 Mac Pro for 8 years, but it was reaching the end of life. Trouble with add on USB3. End of OS support.

So my 2011 Mini is staring to have issues with constant crashing on High Sierra, just getting an old girl as my media server. So going to look for a newer replacement and you find that you have to downgrade and pay a lump of money for the replacement....

Interesting to note that Intel are having a short notice keynote (live streamed) on Monday to announce the arrival of 9th Generation desktop CPUs (Coffee Lake Refresh) with the expectation that 8 cores will be on offer. I think they'll be a bit expensive and the models available this year will clearly be used as expensive range toppers if Apple opt to use them in the iMac.

Interestingly, if the K series CPUs (with 95w TDP) can use up to 40 PCIe lanes it could very much blur the lines between the iMac 5k and iMac Pro.

Thanks everyone, I've just read an i3 NUC@ 389 U.K. pounds- since wishing I didn't purchase i3 laptop recently.
This could be an e-bay sell laptop opportunity then purchase NUC

Hey everyone I'm currently running a 2011 iMac for my Plex Server that is slowly dyeing. I'm hoping that this month will see a new Mac mini from Apple, but if not, will the current mini's Lowest config, serve the purpose ok ? Most of my Data is ripped and encoded for my apple Devices, and i'm mostly one stream at a time.

Can the current $499 mac mini be upgraded to 8gb ? and if so easily or Nightmare ?

I welcome any opinions

This Tuesday October 9 could be the invitation of the event where the new mac mini will finally be announced! That is, the announcement of the announcement of the coming of the new Mac mini is almost certainly coming in the next two weeks.

This is so exciting!

(I'm writing this on an "Early 2009" Mac mini 2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo, 8 GB, running OS X 10.11.6.)
Even if they send invites, doesn’t mean a mini is almost certainly coming.

I keep looking on the refurb store at 4k iMacs - some nice ones have come and gone over the last week (16gb - 256gb sdd seem be popping up a bit). my 2012 mini is o.k. after Mojave, but still getting the occasional beach ball (might be a memory issue).

When it beachballs, check Activity Monitor and see if the memory pressure is amber or red. That will tell you if memory utilisation is the cause.
