The new Mac mini is almost certainly coming

When it beachballs, check Activity Monitor and see if the memory pressure is amber or red. That will tell you if memory utilisation is the cause.

Thanks, it tends to lock up at the time of the beachball. I might just start up activity monitor and leave it in the background an wait for the pause/beachball.

Here we are, deep into October with still no word on when Apple will announce updates for the Mini and the other Mac devices. It is glaringly obvious that the corporate focus has been diverted exclusively to the iPhone, iPad, Watch, and their accessories. We know now, that because Apple has placed the Mac lineup on the back burner, there will be a time when that burner will be shut off. So, if we see an update to the Mini this year or early 2019, it will likely be the last we’ll ever see..!

If I retained anything from my Star Trek love affair - it was the judicious use of "The Scotty Principle" in business and mostly everything I commit to - I always present a date I can comfortably meet or a date that can be improved upon as needed to garner the desired results.

That has always been good business practice when used appropriately and in measured amounts not to change the general expectation but to augment just how "good" you are!

Clearly this is not Apple's game - they're the arrogant know-it-all who trips over their past performance.

I don't think the analogy works with Apple. I guess you could say that the customer Capt Kirk, but Apple isn't Scotty, the release of a new Mini isn't mission-critical and they never promised any update (let alone a delivery date).

One thing is for sure. The mini needs more POWER, Scotty!

Out of curiosity, what makes you guys think Apple would announce anything before the NDA for the new Intel CPUs is lifted, which is October 19th if I remember correctly?

"Apple is also expected to announce updates to several Mac models at the event, including the MacBook and/or MacBook Air, iMac, and Mac mini.

Apple's event could take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday of next week, in which case invitations should go out within the next few days. The next option would likely be Tuesday, October 30, as Apple CEO Tim Cook will be in Brussels on Wednesday, October 24, likely ruling out an event that week."

The response was to the thread not an analogy for Apple at all - however should I propose an analogy it would go like this: Apple is the Klingon who gets pleasure in displeasure (the more you want the Mini the least your chances) - who rattles the cage just because you don't want them too (dongles, headphone jack) - that seems to fit.

It was always the blind ambition and the assumption of a Captain's logic that usurped the Klingons - that's why Kirk had the upper hand - he defied a Captains logic in execution not loyalty - many times using a Klingon ship to complete the mission.

In this view, our loyalty is to the mission, not Apple, in which case we may need to use Windows (Bird of Prey) as opposed to MacOS (Enterprise) to complete the mission to protect the Federation of "Think Different".
