I know very little about football, and less about the players participating at the world cup.

However, I've found myself glued the screen the past few days. It's incredibly exciting to watch. I hardly get any chance to watch football, and it's even better when you get to watch the best in the world play. The Czech game this morning was fun to watch, they handed it to the Americans.

Anyways, Go Netherlands!

Indeed. Nicely predicted, m'dear. :)

It was a better game than I expected, too. I wouldn't have been surprised if it had been a more dour affair, but in the end it was quite entertaining.

From what little I saw (the BBC's stream started packing up) it looked an excellent match with Michael Essien a candidate for man of the match. Not that I'm biased or anything. :D

Well predicted, BV. The question is, did you put any money on that?

Now the US is in bad shape... they don't control their own destiny and need some help, in the form of the Czechs beating Italy (Italy's goal dif is +2 vs the Czechs' +3) and Ghana not rolling completely over for the Czechs.

No. That's a sure way to get things wrong... I take no pleasure from betting. However, I shall post my tips for tomorrow's games in the morning.

He had an outstanding game. I can't for the life of me imagine why anyone would accuse you of bias, though... :D ;)

Player of the day though, Tomas Rosicky? :p No bias here either....

Hey... Rui Marques might get on the pitch for Angola in their last two group games. He played a game for us on loan last season and is certain to be the player of the tournament, based on what he learned with us.

I'm not biased, just delusional. ;)

good game, italy was much better than I expected and ghana was good in the upper half. If they can fix the defense (especially the dreadful goalie) they are going to be a tough cookie to chew on for the czechs.
The US were very disappointing, but a lot depended on the good game from the czechs, too. I think the Us are better than this, but in this group it's a steep hill to climb.

i understand the deserved enthusiasm, but didn't you already celebrate this some 60 posts ago?

what about adding somethingto your comments?
for example: assuming Brazil will win the group, Australia now has a real chance at coming in second. who do you think you'll play in the round of 16?

more generally who do you think was the best player/team/game so far?

Have to say that I'm disappointed in Japan, but am not surprized. Their coach, Zico, is not right for the team. Since Troussier left, their performance has been dreadful. I wish I could have seen this game just to have something more to complain about.;) Hopefully, this world cup will see out Zico.

Well done Oz! Hope you make it through to the next round.

Yes I did, but my latest post was meant to be ironic seeing as I just woke up and remembered the manner of victory. It's pretty clear we will be playing Italy. Best player...ooh that's tricky. I might have to say Lampard because he so very nearly lit England up. We could have a three way tie for second in our group, but I think a draw against Croatia will see us through.

pretty clear that the USA either has to win both its next games, or win and tie and get some serious help (i can't process the circumstances that would be required for a win/tie to be enough right now. hah). they looked pathetic yesterday, and the only good i can take from it is that against italy, they can't possibly look any worse! i hope

As an Arsenal supporter I'm looking forward to seeing Rosicky up front with Henry next year. I only listened to the game on the radio while on the road last night, but I'm looking forward to watching him next match.

He isn't a striker. Can play in the hole though. Will look a lot more ordinary against premiership opposition although might be proven wrong.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'll get a better idea of him when I watch the next match rather than via radio. Italy ought to give a better clue to his real talent than my compatriots did.
