Man for man, this Spanish team is as good as ANYONE in the tourny. I said that before the WC started. The only thing I doubted was their togetherness.

This game has put to rest any doubts.

Everyone played well, really well. Well done guys

But can they keep it up? Or will they blow the competition away to win their group and then fall apart when it means something?

well i think after this game we can guess that the chances for Spain getting into the next round are good .... was about time 😉

With Alonso and Luis Garcia in their team they can achieve anything 😉

Yeah how'd that happen? Since when is Spain actually playing good? Let's see if they manage to do so throughout the championship.

What – Spain blow it? Surely not... 😛

A tremendous result for them this afternoon, though.

Unfortunately they are not good enough to get a place in the 11... Unlike Xabi and Luis of course 😉

Who are 24 and 27 respectively. Xabi will be around in 4 years, and starting (if he continues like he is, no injuries etc.), but I doubt Garcia will be starting. Fabregas and Reyes will be 23 and 25 respectively in 4 years... and in the team. 😛 Next WC, Fab will be Spains main midfielder IMHO (I know you totally disagree, ho humm).

Oh well. Even if Cesc and Jose don't start, I hope Spain do well..

thanks for the Fact 😉

Fabregas might, If he improves
I doubt Reyes will ever be anymore than a fringe player

Either way, They can't get in the team... which was what i stated. 🙂
As for Garcia, there is no reason to doubt he will be in the team in 4 years 31 is hardly old.

And Crouch won't be able to get in the England team, once Roo is fit. well.. depends on how owen looks. But i should think crouch will be dropped, even though Owen is play **** atm.

But don't forget how Spain was knocked out last World Cup. I know I mentioned it before, that was a game handed to Korea - as were others (Italy).

What is it about British, i don't know, resentment(?), that allows in all these epithets anyway? Just this morning, on the BBC (!), the newsreader said," and later this afternoon perennial underachievers, Spain, will face their first match of this world cup.." I don't mean this as a provocation, but it's not only Spain who has had a good squad that didn't give live up to expectations (England, for example?). Seems to me 'underachievers' could be used for a number of teams.

In fairness, viewers who don't watch much football might not know about Spain's past record, whereas your average Brit will be all too aware that England go spinning out of any competition where the match goes to penalties and/or it's a bit hot. 😱

Oh yeah... I perk up usually when I hear an England game has gone to penalties 😛

Incidentally Jaffa, I spotted this in a shop window tonight and can't think why you crossed my mind...

It's nice to know people are thinking of me. 😀

Obviously all well-dressed England supporters will be wearing one of those this summer, although the bloke in the middle does seem to be wearing a USA kit...

With the world class saves that the poland keeper just made (and has made through the match) its no wonder that Dudek was dropped....

I remember Dudek when he played at Feyenoord. He seemed the best goalie in Europe at the time!
But once at Liverpool, he could make the most horrific mistakes! Man... I remember the one against Man Ure a couple of years ago, when that Argentinian player scored his first goal for Ure.... (ofcourse, I don't have to refresh your memory, BakedBeans...)

EDIT.. WHOA!!!! How close can you get?!?

EDIT 2..
