Yeah, I think XIII has nailed the solution. :D

"final": ban for the team from next World Cup™?

Indeed.

:D

I doubt any football association would have the balls to implement a player banning scheme though..

MORE IMPORTANT: Ref: Benito Archundia Tellez, from Mexico

Isn't that the idiot England had in their first game? Uh oh..

I predict 1-1.. then too close to call. :)

I'll make my second prediction in 2 hours. ;)

Predictions:

2-1, and 4-2 (so, 2 reds for Ukraine, 1 for Switzerland, and 4 yellows versus 2) :D

:D :D

So this is the new competition? Which ref can book most players. It think fifa has recently entered the [brightly coloured] cardboard manufacturing business. :p

We certaily did not struggle, aussies had 2 shots on goal, with 10 men. 1 thing is struggling another is playing discretely. But I do agree we did play great.

Italy, three times winners, not scoring a goal in 90 minutes (or scoring with 10 seconds left in injury time with a contentious penalty) against a team that wasn't supposed to get out of the group stages, and was not playing an overly defensive game, would, in many people's opinions, be classed as 'struggling'.

Problem is also that some decisions will be considered "grey area", i.e. did he dive, or simply fall over?
What about the protests from the clubs afterwards. If Henry "fell over" in the box, and two days later we heard that he was banned from Premiership appearances for 3 games, we would protest, wouldn't we?

It really has to be a blatant dive for it to be led to any banning, i.e. Figo-stuff :D

Yes, we would complain. I guess this would have to be reserved for cases where the player does the whole appealing to the ref. thing too - the line could be that if you fall, get up immediately. If you are fouled, then stay down.. its all iffy. But it may work. Like I said though - seems far too radical to actually happen IMO.

As would a team who were gifted 60% of possession, played half the game against 10 men, and could not create a single good chance in almost 95 minutes.

Nor were they playing an overly offensive game. ;) :p

Ok, lets move on to Ukraine v. Switzerland. :)

Mr. Poll is not happy with you.

He'll punish me with a stupid decision to send an Arsenal player off next season. :p

I think the third should have cancelled out the previous two. :p :p

Yes! Great idea :D. If a player is skillful enough to avoid being sent off after 2 yellows, he earns the right to stay on. ;)

But Australia are supposed to struggle - they are, after all, the underdogs.

(...) Unless you are suggesting that Italy was playing for penalties and relying on Buffon.

Yup. Football. Italian Style.™

Of course they were also waiting for Australia to attack and then go for the break.

Isn't defensive football meant to be played when defending a goal?

No, it isn't.

Italian football is notoriously defensive, they are very good and very successful at it. When you (wrongly) get put down to ten men then defending and hitting on the counter is probably the best option.

Yup but that didn't work well because Australia were never able to mount a serious attack - and so the game was quite stifling.

edit: that's sarcasm folks if it's not obvious enough...

so Italy is damned if they do - damned if they don't... che cazzo stai dicendo?
