I think you miss the point entirely. When one suggests that a team has 'struggled' there is an implication that they shouldn't have because they are supposed to be the favourites.

I get the point. I don't agree with it. The favoured team won the match. They created several good chances and could (should) easily have been 1 or 2 up. They willingly conceded a large percentage of possession to an opposition who were unable to do anything threatening with it. Lesser followers of the sport confuse possession. You have to do something with it. If the other team are unable to do that and you still manage to win (and you do so with 10 men for half the game) you've done well.
