Rats! I was typing up another post right when Henry put it in, and I inadvertantly hit "preview" instead of "submit".

Was just about to say that I was only rooting for an exciting match that didn't go to penalties, which meant we were all doomed to another ugly 0-0 affair. But Henry saved me from that, at least.

Zidane looks like a different player out there than he did in group play. And Brazil is getting very few chances.

Weak yellow on Sagnol.

HORRIBLE yellow on Thuram! But did Ronaldinho send Brazil's last best chance whizzing over the bar?

11 men good and true?

Well done France. Brazil were working out what to do with their playing fees rather than playing well.

Are there 11 world class players in Germany who dont act like drama queens, children or rule benders extraordinaires? The Dutch goalie seemed pretty balanced, Ronaldinho seems for the most part to stay up and not fall over like a feather in a tornado, Owen Hargreaves looks a real honest player, any more who arent an embarrassment to the word "professional"? (And before anyone says so and aso isnt world class, they are all playing in the world cup, so they are!)

I'm curious as to why the BBC has removed the article that contained Owen Hargreaves' comments implying England were just pretenders if they fail in this world cup. And fail they did, spectacularly. Although Rooney's petulant pointless red card should ensure that he is England captain at the next world cup.

A google search with "If we fail we have to hold our hands up and say the talk of us being potential world champions was rubbish" in the search bar will indeed link to the original article but the page has been replaced. This is strange as the page has an id number and new articles are given new numbers. Neville's quote and the rest of the article, is being erased from history.

Zidane, Zidane, and Zidane, all fit this description.

what a game by zidane!
france dominated way beyond the score. the goal was dubious offside, but the ref was calling all against france for the whole second half.
france really surprised me in the last two games. I didn't think they would make it to the last four after the first two games.

IMO, the three overall best teams made it to the semis (france, italy and germany, in this order). Portugal is lucky to be there. Gritty play, but nothing special. (England would have been lucky too, they played half their potential)
At this point should be France-Italy, although Germany has an almost equal chance, especially if the refs favor them as is likely (i.e. the penalty that earned rodriguez a yellow for diving was, IMO, huge, and there were a few german dives sactions with fouls against the argies).

YES, they did... that is exactly what they wanted... what dont you understant about them having ten men?
...
Agree... Ricardo is a better keep AND a FAR better penalty saver.

I am sorry, that England lost, but even with ten men you can achieve something, if you try very hard. England preferred to go for penalties though.

At least we agree on the goal keepers :)

Just one short comment on Brasil vs France: The coach Pareirra did some very arrogant comments on the Argentina - Germany game, so I am glad they got kicked out just for that. On the other hand, I had the feeling, that one or two French players were off-side when the goal happened (not Henry though). So they got away with some sort of dodgy passive off-side two games in a row now.

Yep. ZZ's the man. Though I didn't want to see Brazil go out, it's great we get to see more of Zidane. He put on a clinic, today. I tip my 'tar to him.

No offence, but when do/did they play their full potential? Definitely not when it counts.

Some people here might hate me for this, but David Beckham is by a couple of light-years overrated player and even for an anti-England supporter it hurts to see him playing every game (don't let one freekick blind you from the truth). Lennon has shown, that he is a much more dangerous player.

Anyway, England has so much young talent and with a good coach ignoring the media and the old stars' reputation, they might achieve a lot in the future.

Beckham has not been the same since he went to Real Madrid. However, they keep him on for those set plays he does, and considering the number of times he can pull something out of nothing, he's probably going to be around a while yet.

Saying that, Lennon is the better player and we'll probably see some more of him in Beckham's place in the next year or two. Gradual changeover.

Hi dynamicv, hope you're fine incl. Bart :)

And this exactly the problem: Nowadays a player has to be more complete than just set-pieces. Football moved on a lot and you can't afford a player to be on the pitch just to kick the set-pieces.

It will be interesting to see what way the new coach (McLaren(?)) is going. I have the feeling he will continue Eriksson's legacy, which would be a disaster for English football.

Don't be too sure of that satty. Every new manager wants to put his stamp on things as soon as possible. It's more likely we're going to see a major shake-up.

I hope so. I'm sick of people talking about potential this and potential that. About time we got a few results.

Anyways, I'm off to bed. Catch you later :)

P.S. Bart and I are both fine. Hope you are well too.

Have a good one.

Off topic, but I want to give one "bad" example: The English Rugby Team. Andy Robinson took over from Clive Woodward and f*cked it up. Robinson tried the same strategy as Woodward, but without all the necessary worldclass players (mainly retired). Look where they are at the moment; so much talent wasted. This guy has no clue what will be the next starting XV... they might get one of the biggest jokes ever in a world cup (2007).
