Why is Cesc suspended for this weekend's game?

Edit: just saw it was for 5 cumulative yellows on the season.

The last of which looked like it was pretty deliberately gained at Reading away so he misses this game, a quite easy home game with Wigan.

Meanwhile, the Football League has published its match official appointments for the upcoming weekend – and guess who has been handed the task of officiating the weekend's big fixture, the epic derby clash between Hull City and Sc*nthorpe United?

That's right, none other than my arch nemesis Uriah 'Look at me!' ******. Bloody hell, that's any chance for an entertaining game gone out of the window.

Good riddance if the first half there was any indication. Like watching County on a bad day. Second half England improved, but Croatia were simply the better team in all areas.

Can't disagree at all with that – and it's not as if this was the only poor display during this qualifying campaign. Hopefully this will lead to a change in approach towards the national side, but knowing the FA I won't go holding my breath.

Still, at least we're not likely to spend the next six months being told how our team of world-class stars will sweep with ease to European Championship glory next summer...

Anyway, I'm now off to walk the dog around Fitzroy Square. Hopefully there's nothing going on at the Croatian Embassy :(

Yeah I have to say I have found England games quite boring to watch. Recently I had been hoping they would fail to qualify and hope to see a change in style soon.

Very pleased.
Hmm, I'm slightly annoyed although not surprised. I mentioned to Miss Jaffa Cake at the start of the second half that is would be typical for us to battle back to 2-2, only to concede towards the end and lose the match. The curse of Nostrajaffus strikes again.

It speaks volumes of our world-class team and world-class players that the telly folk were keeping us updated on the score in the Russia-Andorra match, hoping the Andorrans would do us a favour by snatching a draw. That's the state we're in, we're hoping that a team that has lost all 29 of its previous qualifiers will help us out and get us qualified.

I mean, the Andorrans aren't going to head an equalising goal with those bloody antennae, are they?

when was the last time that none of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland managed to qualify for euro or world cup?

wouldn't it be better to drop the anachronistic privilege and have a single competitive team like any other normal country?

The 1994 World Cup over in the States, I think I'm right in saying.

There are many reasons why we have separate teams, there are political reasons for one thing, and the fact that we actually have four totally separate and independent Football Associations. Unless I'm mistaken there's no precedent for a number of FAs to club together to field a single national team.

Anyway, such a bold move would require considerable change, and if there's on thing the Football Association really isn't very good at it's change. ;)

What happened there....:eek::(

I watched the game on BBC and somehow it always seemed England wouldn't make it.
Even got the easily awarded penalty... :(

BTW, I sure hope none of you have watched the Dutch though.... we have been very poor throughout the entire qualifications, but we were more lucky.

Must admit that Guus Hiddink has done it again.

England has gone nowhere under McLaren, so this loss is a godsend for the English national side. If they had gone through, the team would be in a shambles for the next world cup.

They should be offering Mourinho anything he wants for the job...

It was stupid move putting Crouchy up by himself - I'm glad he got a classy goal when they switched formations (helped by sublime service from Becks)...Benitez, are you watching? when was the last time your boy Kuyt scored like that? or at all?

Unfortunately, due to having family across in the Netherlands my intention was to back the Dutch next summer. A jaffa is an orange, after all. ;)

Incidentally, they mentioned on the radio a few minutes back that the FA board is holding a previously unscheduled meeting first thing in the morning. I wonder what they'll be discussing? :p

meh!

what a bunch of over paid, under played, egotistical losers. Crouch was the only one to show real grit.
As for the pitch - how much did that stadium cost?

SHOCKING

You can blame whichever idiot scheduled American Football there for that. The type of grass at Wembley was chosen for football. It doesn't have deep roots like for instance the grass at Twickenham.

LOL...

Once the European Championships have started, we will have forgotten how badly the qualifications went, and you bet ya I'll be cheering the "oranges" :)D) on in the pubs...
But.... the championship will be missing a huge team... one I always cheer for too :(

Ah Ha, a pay rise for 'claren to help motivate the team. What else could it be?

Unscheduled indeed!
