Think Beckham was good for the game overall. Maybe could have fed Crouch a few more if he was played at the start.

To throw a keeper in at the deep end when the weather / pitch is that bad - well blame the manager as much as the player.

when was the last time that none of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland managed to qualify for euro or world cup?

Does that mean that England are going to ask for the home nations championship to be re-instated this summer to provide some revenue for the FA? SFA have been asking for it for years only to be told by the English FA that they are too busy.

wouldn't it be better to drop the anachronistic privilege and have a single competitive team like any other normal country?

NO NO hell NO! This has issue been raised over a GB team for the 2012 Olympics and rejected, we'd end up with a team of 8 Englishmen and a token from each of the other home nations. It also threatens the independence of the SFA i.e Rangers and Celtic would have to compete for places in the Champions League.

Strangely enough, the idea has been mooted in the past week or two...

I'd like to see a return of the Home Nations Championship myself, although one problem that's always mentioned is the fact that our players are already playing a lot of matches. Actually, given the constant complaints about the lack of young talent coming through why not reinstate the Home Nation Championship as an under-21 competition or something? It would be perfect for our potential young stars of the future to prove themselves in some competitive, passionate matches, and surely it would help British football at club and international level?

I'm not in favour of a combined team either, although I can perhaps make an exception for the 2012 Olympics as a one off.

meh!

what a bunch of over paid, under played, egotistical losers. Crouch was the only one to show real grit.
As for the pitch - how much did that stadium cost?

Woah, did you not see Gerrard? I didn't even realise Lampard was on until the commentator mentioned him, which did take some time.

"McLaren vows to stay on," sorry did I miss something? Does anyone actually want him to?

I think you maybe missed the fact that if he's sacked he'll be entitled to compensation for the couple of years left on his contract, whereas if he walks of his own accord then he won't get the cash. ;)

With that in mind, I think a resignation is unlikely...

I'd like to see the English FA ask the others and be told to take a hike just for spite/sheer comedy value!

Agreed, start it off at U21 and see how it goes from there. It'll be less traveling and more rewarding than playing Latvia U21 in a nothing game.

i will second that

Ah I see, I didn't think of that. Fair enough then.

I can't imagine what would happen if England ever actually won the World Cup or Euro Championship. Then what would you have to complain about? :p

In a backhanded way I almost have to root for England to win the WC. Because if the U.S. somehow won it before most English fans got to enjoy one, the number of mass suicides would be an international scandal. I can't have that on my conscience!

Top 4 club Spurs.. will not have anyone going to Euro 2008 unless Chimbonda, Kaboul and Boateng are called up to the France and Germany squads (highly unlikely)..

I think we will have..

Lehmann (if he's still at the club)
Fabianski
Sagna
Gallas
Senderos
Djourou
Rosicky
Cesc
Flamini
Diarra
Van Persie
Eduardo

Then possibly Clichy or Diaby.

:D

Deano is a legend.

It's 2-1 now, the Sc*nts pulled one back just before half-time. We've got to win this one...

Yeah, I keep half an eye on Hull these days, it's your fault.

Carlisle need to be winning as well today, 3 of the worst performances I've seen in a while in the 2 cups, and both against League 2 teams. Need to be keeping the promotion push on the tracks though.

I've been blamed for worse things in my time, so I can take that one on the chin. :p

The good news is though is that the game finished 2-1, so we've not only picked up the derby win but that result puts us a place and a point off the play-offs, albeit provisionally ahead of the rest of the day's games. Ace.

It's good to see Steven Gerrard back to his midfield bossing, tirelessly hardworking, goalscoring best. It's a pity he couldn't muster the same sort of effort last Wednesday evening...

I imagine that the Croatian midfield put up a better fight than Newcastle's.

20 minutes 'til the next match. I have a choice between the Bolton V ManU or Everton v Sunderland.

God, Newcastle are utter *****. What a woeful display. Liverpool should have scored at least 6.

This is why I no longer think Liverpool can take the title. Arsenal or Man U would have scored six.

Though I see that Dirk Kuyt scored - almost as rare as the elusive Kewell goal!;)

Fixed your post. ;)

By the way it's now Everton 2 - 0 Sunderland and Bolton are 1 up against ManU. Time to switch the channel.

Torres seemed a bit off form today and didn't take his chances, the difference between 3-0 and 6-0 today. Also at the end of the day it doesn't matter how much you win by as it still only gets you 3 points.

Not quite true – a team's goal difference and goals for tally can end up being very important. It very nearly came down to our goal difference saving us from relegation last year... had dirty, dirty Leeds managed to win their last game of the season, it would have only of been our far superior tally which prevented us from being relegated instead.

And of course Arsenal's famous 1989 title was snatched off Liverpool in the dying moments of the season, as Michael Thomas scored the vital second goal which levelled the two team's goal difference and gifted the Gunners the title on goals scored or something.
