I was watching the Sunderland/Everton game and turned it off after Yakubu's 5th goal. Sunderland looked good for the beginning of the second half and should have pulled one back but Chopra missed an absolute sitter. In the end it didn't really matter...Derby could have probably beaten Sunderland today...

Gordon looked very good in goal, but besides him only Jones was doing anything for Sunderland. Everton looked sharp though.

EDIT: Just saw the scoreline for Bolton/Man U....:eek::eek:

My uni friends will be enjoying the watford result today. But we are still top of the league which is brilliant.

Barnsley 3 - 2 Watford.

Also listening to the 606 at the moment and the Newcastle fans are livid with Allardyce, I live with a fan and we watched the game together and I can completely understand their frustrations. Allardyce lost the fans support today, case in point N'Zogbia off for Milner. The fans were cheering when they saw Milner come to the touch line and then when the board came up signaling N'Zogbia how the crowd turned. The tactics were all wrong today and the substitutions were idiotic. I really don't think Allardyce will stay in the position for too long, he has lost all the confidence of the fans which is not a good position to be in.

I don't know... a couple of players will have been taking all those kick-offs. :p

Yeah, we watched the game too and there were a couple of supporters making their feelings known towards Allardyce. They didn't look happy at all, to say the least.

Meanwhile – and seeing as it was you who brought up a Championship result ;) – Hull City's Wikipedia page is currently closed 'due to vandalism'. Bitter Sc*nthorpe fans, I imagine. :D

On the topic of the Everton Vs Sunderland game.

I watched it on match of the day a Keano must be livid, that would not make nice watching for them. Apparently the job of a defender is to mark the oposition players, the Everton players has so much time and space. Look at goal by Yakubu when he had Jones marking him in the penalty area, that worked well!

And as for the Man Utd game. Who was the defender marking Anelka at the free-kick (I think it may have been that young spanish kid) but what the hell was he doing. I think Sir Alex may have had a little word is his ear.

And as for the form team in the Championship, three wins in a row and two home games to come....

Maybe in a few months we will be talking about Hull City being stuffed by Premiership teams....

My lucky shirt and I will be in attendance on Tuesday and Saturday, so a defeat for the Tigers will not occur.

Ah... we can but dream. :D

It's way, way too early to be talking about the possibility of promotion I think, but you never know. Certainly our progress so far this season has been encouraging, and if come next May we're where we are now in the table – a comfortable ninth – then I think we'll have done very well indeed. I'd settle for that as a good platform to build on for 2008-2009.

World Cup Draw: England in Group 6 with Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Andorra so far... and finally, Croatia.

Easy, you would have thought. ;)

Fret not – we'll walk that group, what with us being the Best Team In The World™ and everything...

One good thing that I read earlier though... they've announced that World Cup winner's medals will be given retrospectively for players who featured throughout the finals but not in the final itself – it wasn't always the whole squad plus every hanger on getting a medal as is the case now, it just used to be the eleven men who played in the final who were awarded them. This means the likes of Jimmy Greaves who played all the way through the 1966 tournament but missed out on the final will finally get his hands on a medal. Pele will also pick one up for the final he missed in 1962.

I think it's only right that the guys who helped the countries reach their finals should be recognised, so I'm in favour of this decision.

That is a pretty good result for us, we should get through that group but then again ...

Group 3 Czech Republic, Poland, NORTHERN IRELAND, Slovakia, Slovenia, San Marino

Group 4 Germany, Russia, Finland, WALES, Azerbaijan, Liechtenstein

Group 8 Italy, Bulgaria, Republic of Ireland, Cyprus, Georgia, Montenegro

Group 9 Holland, SCOTLAND, Norway, FYR Macedonia, Iceland

NI will have a reasonable chance but i feel will just fall short.

Wales are out

ROI doubtfull but theink they can do it.

Scotland on recent form should get through but this is by no means an easy group

Then again, Alan Shearer... ;)

Uh, I think you missed the part that says "Italy". :p

I thought it was the top two teams but after reading your post I reread the BBC site and now I agree that ROI have no chance with out right qualification and think the will fall by the wayside.

On the new information I'll revise my statements

NI out
ROI out
Wales out
Scotland out
England risky

Yeah... only the group winners qualify by right, with the eight best-placed group runners up having to go through play-offs to win a place at the 2010 tournament. I think it's the same system that's been used at previous world cups, although I seem to remember that previously the two best-placed runners up went straight through too, without having to go through a play-off? I might be totally wrong there, though.

Serious thoughts on England's chances? It's as tricky a group as our Euro 2008 qualifying pool, if not more so. I don't think any more needs to be said about Croatia's credentials after last week, Ukraine will prove to be tricky opponents, and Belarus could be a potential banana skin.

I would like to think that we could at least make the play-offs in that group, but we shouldn't see qualification as being a certainty by any stretch of the imagination. I'll be interested to see what the tabloid response to the draw is tomorrow, to see if they'll be bigging up our chances as much as they did prior to our Euro 2008 qualifying disaster. ;)

EDIT: Inspired by xUKHCx's earlier post, my predictions on the fortunes of the home nations and the Republic of Ireland...

Norn Iron – out
Republic of Ireland – possible play-offs
Wales – out
Scotland – possible play-offs
England – play-offs

...so I'm not quite as pessimistic. I reckon that Scotland and ROI can make the play-offs with a bit of luck, and England should at least clinch second with a decent coach, luck on our side and the deadwood cleared from the playing staff – what happens after that though is anyone's guess.

England have the raw material to win their pool - the critical questions are who will be the manager and who will be injured...

I think Redknapp is a strong candidate, except for the fact that he is doing so well at Portsmouth...he has much to lose by going for the England job if things go badly for him there.

Mourinho is still my favorite - I suspect it's all up to him whether he does it or not.

Well, Owen being injured is a certainty... :D

Speaking of England stuff, me and Miss Jaffa Cake popped into Soccer Sports earlier to pick up some cheap waterproofs (don't ask) – all the England replica shirts have had their prices slashed quite dramatically. You could pick up a current adult home shirt for just over £11.
