I thought it was the top two teams but after reading your post I reread the BBC site and now I agree that ROI have no chance with out right qualification and think the will fall by the wayside.

On the new information I'll revise my statements

NI out
ROI out
Wales out
Scotland out
England risky

How can you tip Scotland to qualify in one post and then change your mind 40 minutes later? Are you assuming that Scotland will get the second place and go out in the playoffs? I really don't see Norway being any problem, so we are probably looking at least at 2nd and a place in the play-offs.

Actually, Scotland's record in play-offs is abysmal, the only two I remember are England (beaten) and Netherlands (won the first leg, lost 6-0 second leg.)

However, two important points; we are in the group of 5 so we don't have any minnows to slip up against (i.e. Faroes.) and ii) we are facing one of the biggest underachieving international teams ever. We would have been happy with Greece, Croatia or Holland, and we missed the big guns.

And in case you missed it, Scotland won the World Cup this evening in a playoff!

You whole post sort of sums up my reasoning but i'll explain.

I got it wrong with the qualifying procedure thinking that the top two would go through but then re read it and saw it was only the top team to go through which is this case would be Holland. So you would at best get second but I think Norway are going to be more of a problem than you think. So if you do get through to the play offs I think you will more than likely get knocked out but that really does depend on who you get.

This is what drives me crazy. He led them to promotion against all odds, and now they are doing exactly as was expected of them and yet now he is suddenly a bad manager.

Yeah, I must agree. He really is a top draw manager. Look how well Preston have done without him.

Birmingham? Back to Preston? They'd have him back...

... andddddd there goes Billy Davis. Shame.

Full Story (What there is of it so far anyway)

Sacked after the Chelsea game, they didn't give him a chance. I don't think it is necessarily far to sack him because there is no escaping the fact that Derby are **** and there is only so much you can do with turd for players.

They were always going to be in that position no matter what manager, a manager that got them promoted lets not forget. I think he has done an alright job and I always like to hear his honest opinions post match.

edit:

Think that he could do some good at Birmingham and give them a fighting chance. I think it would be sweet justice if he went there and kept them up as Derby go down, but the chances of Birmingham staying up are very slim.

I would have said they {Birmingham} would have a good chance of staying up a few weeks ago. SB has done brilliantly there, but at the end of the day by leaving he's looking after number one. Who knows whats going to happen with this take over.

They seem to have their sights set on someone high profile, but they'll struggle regardless. Derby I'm afraid, look doomed.

I think you'll be lucky to get either of those tbh.

I have heard Slavan Billic's name being branded about for Birmingham. Interesting one to say the least.

Until they appoint Eric Black you'll see lots of names linked with us. Any one who things the board will shell out huge sums of money for a manager is crazy.

well they do have a bit of money from the Bruce deal, it would be money well spent as you do have a fighting chance to stay up.

That is true, but we've never been a club to splash the cash. Plus with the Carson Yeung buy-out looking like it could go tits-up they would not want to be saddled with a huge salary if we did go down.

True but you could have a conditional contract that would mean a pay cut for relegation.

but that would mean getting an average to crap manager and not a top level manager. I

think the buy-out is screwing us at the moment, nobody wants to come to the best team in the midlands :D because nobody knows who will own us come December 20th

But in all honesty that is all you an expect because the real reason why nobody wants to go to you is that you are expected to be relegated, the current buy out situation is only exacerbating the issue.

Fixed your post BTW.

Ouch... Some times the truth does hurt. Still with Bruce as manager I did believe we'd be OK, finish somewhere around 14th-15th. But now, not so sure, just got to hope Wigan, Derby, Bolton and Sunderland continue to be just as crap.

Add Middlesborough to that list as well. There are lots of teams that could easily go down that some teams that would gone down can escape. With Bruce Birmingham were safe, with Davis Derby had a slight chance. Now switch Davis to Birmingham then you can stay up.

Sad day for Brazilian football

Eight Brazil football fans killed

Several people fell through a hole which appeared in the upper stands
At least eight people have died after part of a stadium in north-eastern Brazil collapsed towards the end of a football match, police say.
A number of people fell through a gaping hole in one of the highest areas of the stands at the Fonte Nova stadium in the city of Salvador in Bahia.

Fans were celebrating the promotion of their team to the second division.

At least they died happy.

Meanwhile, following on from our recent discussions on the Home Nations Championship there's been a little announcement today.

Scotland, Wales, Norn Iron and the Republic of Ireland have agreed 'in principle' to play a series of "Celtic Cup" tournaments, starting in 2009. Obviously England will be far too busy to compete in such an affair, as we'll be spending our time then trying to find a new manager after failing to qualify for the 2010 World Cup. :p

So does Ferguson say such things because he's an attention whore? Or does it just seem that way because the gossip-crazed media latches on to anything he says? Or both?

Looks good, I think they are worried about going it alone without England but if anything that will make the four teams more evenly matched. I don't see why they can't get something hastily arranged for summer 2008.

BTW, I might set up an internationals or Tartan Army thread to stop gate-crashing the premier league thread. Sorry.
