The problem with those matches are that they're all away ties for the underdogs.
Excellent point – the key exception being the Mansfield/Middlesbrough tie... ;)

Mind, just because a team plays in the lower leagues doesn't automatically mean a poor surface. There are some splendidly maintained pitches out there that would put some Premier League ones to shame.

I can;t complain to much about Riise's own goal

Then you aren't trying hard enough! (jk)

Of course, you're right, these things do happen from time to time. It just so happened that Riise's happened at a very inopportune time (in the sense of equalising and in the sense of Rafa needs to be bagging wins!)

Some Premiership ones are shoddy. Not ours.. :) But some are really pretty bad.

Fairly confident of progressing into the next round, presumably with our weakened side.. largely because we are at home. :)

I don't really care about the FA Cup.. perhaps more than the Carling Cup, but it doesn't really grip me anymore like it used to.

My bad. What I mean is the stereotypical cramped stadia (unfortunately not at the KC ;) ) coupled with the fans in lower-league football lends a unique atmosphere.Remember I've been a Boro fan for 17yrs now!

Dave, is that you?

The Brunton Park pitch is beautiful, looking a little worse for wear at the moment, but you have to expect it at this time of year.

FYI, It's the largest pitch in the north of England as well. Newcastle? Who?

Just a personal question; as a Middlesborough fan, how do you feel about Southgate? I know what I think but I'd be interested to know the Boro' fans' opinions. Thanks.

I'm warming to him. I personally would have preferred a more experienced manager when McLaren left to take charge (first choice for the club was apparently El Tel with Southgate as assistant, I would have liked Roy Hodgson) but from what I've seen we're very much on the way up. We're a striker away from the top 10 to be honest, and we're playing nice football while still staying defensively sound. Lee Dixon said Arsene Wenger respected him, probably because we won against them without kicking them off the park or playing 4-6-0. ;) He also seems a bit brighter than your average footballer-turned manager, and I like that once again we're nurturing English talent.B)

Well, the BBC have posted their live games here. Wigan v Chelsea live? Man Utd vs Spurs/ reading live? Have they avoided any of the all Premiership games? In the search of television ratings, the FA Cup is dead, and Auntie killed it.:(

van Persie set to start tomorrow for us against Spurs coming back from injury. Alongside him, I expect to see all the kids. :)

I'm going, more fussed than I usually am about Carling Cup because its Spurs..

Come on the Arsenal.

He just stopped by No. 10 to see if Gordon Brown would put in a good word for him with Capello.

Given their _extensive_ history at RM, I don't think even a "good word" from Her Majesty would do him any good. Not saying that I have any clue whether Capello will cap him or give him the armband, just saying Capello's probably already made up his mind.

Momo's on the way to the Old Lady:

Indeed... Sky Sports are reporting they've 'parted company', and that it's a 'mutual agreement', so it looks like the board have given him the opportunity to leave with a bit of dignity. I've shared my thoughts on the Newcastle managerial situation before, so rather than repeat myself I'll just say simply that I think the board have made a mistake today.

So, anyone like to make any predictions regarding the next Newcastle manager? Not who it'll be, but if they'll still be there by Christmas? :D

Sam Allardyce sacked...
Now, there's a shock...

Still think it's a stupid move by the board... he should have gotten more time, and would probably been able to make the best team they've had in Newcastle for decades...

On the other hand, it would be pretty sweet if Newcastle with Shearer in the hot seat was relegated at the end of the season... Then they and Leeds could fight over the mid table positions in the "Championship" next season :D

I've just said exactly the same thing to Miss Jaffa Cake. If it's not Princess Shearer's name ending up on the door I'm going to be surprised, and I really hope the guy makes a hash of it.

An easy twelve points for us next term, then. :p
