However, if Gareth Southgate can manage it, I'd have every faith in the Shearer pulling it off.
In response to the earlier post: please please please don't take Avram away from Chelsea, he's really good..

I wasn't suggesting that Avram would leave Chelski - only that Ashley wants a stooge (much like Roman got fed up with Teh Special One and brought in a more loyal stooge.)

Grant's a caretaker manager IMO, I don't think he'll be there next season.

Whether or not Allardyce was the right man for the Newcastle job is debatable, but I don't think he was given enough time to make a difference.

I won't go so far as to say Benitez will be the next managerial victim, but Hicks and Gillette are clearly still unhappy with results...with some reason - why, for example, are Torres and Gerrard rested for the FA Cup tie with Luton when no important knockout games are coming for over a month? Why do we still have Kuyt? And for goodness' sake why is the expensive and effective Ryan Babel benched in favor of starting Harry ******* Kewell? Why do we play 4-5-1 formations at Anfield against weaker opponents we should be attacking? Benitez doesn't play to win - he plays to not lose, which is not the same thing at all.

If any of the other teams at the top of the table had Torres and Babel I can guarantee they'd be starting pretty much every game when fit.

I hear that Sissoko's impending sale will provide most of the funds needed to buy Mascherano (fingers crossed).

Still, if Liverpool fail to bring home silverware (which by now means the Champion's League) this season I can easily envision Benitez's position becoming very tenuous indeed.

How much longer do you guys think Fergie will stay at the helm? He's what, 68 now?

That makes two of us!

In the premiership? I probably would.

I can't believe they won't give him the funds for Mascherano!
I also find it absurd that Juventus are after Sissoko, who, let's be honest, isn't exactly the most skillful or best at his position around.

How much longer do you guys think Fergie will stay at the helm? He's what, 68 now?
Never. He'll run it until he's a 1000 probably, maybe Carlos Queiroz or Mark Hughes?

Spot on

Depends on whether they win more than just the premiership. If he does the double - I bet he goes out while on top (like most people thought he was going to do a few back). If they weren't yank-owned, I'd favor Quieroz; since they are, I'd say Keane (or maybe Hughes)

Not technically Premier League news, but Bayern have landed Klinsi.

From the BBC's gossip page:
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is torn over accepting the Newcastle job after being tempted with a £20m transfer kitty. (The Mail)

Redknapp has been told that he can use owner Mike Ashley's private jet to fly him to and from his home on the South Coast. (Daily Express)

Portsmouth will be given £3m in compensation if Redknapp decides to leave Fratton Park for Newcastle. (The Sun)

The cost of sacking Allardyce and recruiting Redknapp could cost Newcastle £9m. (Daily Telegraph)

If Harry Redknapp is the next Newcastle Manager I'll eat my left shoe.

Saying that, I thought that when he wait to Saints.

– ketchup makes things taste better.

Its nailed on from what I hear (not that I am close to Mike Ashley).

not exactly blown my socks off, but hi-ho – hail the cockney messiah!

Harry Redknapp won't last as long as Big Sam, you mark my words.

how did you come to that conclusion, based on what?

New owner buys club for £200m, existing manager was destroying his investment (which he clearly was as anyone who doesnt believe outsiders ignorance would tell you), so he then gets his man, end of.

Not a surprise. They say he's a headcase - but then again so is Berbatov, and Anelka is an effective striker. Heck, at Liverpool I'd take him over Voronin or Kuyt any day.

One thing about Redknapp - in my opinion he's taken Portsmouth as far as he can...so it might be a good time to move on. He's good, but I'm not convinced he's good enough to break into the top four, like Man City under Sven.

Things look pretty bed for Luton right now - looks like the replay against Liverpool came too late to have much positive impact.

For exactly the same reason Big Sam lasted 10 minutes. Newcastle are not a top 6 club anymore, and anyone who wants to make them a top 6 club is going to need to start from the bottom. Big Sam started, but because they are not top by Christmas he is a failure in the eyes of Newcastle's 'die hard'...'fans'.

TBH, I don't much care. I'm enjoying laughing at Newcastle. Hell, I'm still laughing at Joey Barton breaking his foot at the Mighty Brunt in the pre-season. The fanny.

...And therein lies the rub. Whether Big Sam could have turned things around we'll never know, because he was turned out way too early.

The Barton signing was one gamble that really blew up in Allardyce's face...why anyone wanted to sign him is beyond me. You'd have to think his career in the Premier League is finished now. Newcastle need to do whatever they can to get rid of him at the smallest possible expense.

Isn't the new Newcastle manager rumoured to be getting a £20M transfer kitty?
If it should be Harry.. Utaka, Benjani and Martins upfront for Newcastle?
Good Lord, I would not want to play against that.

Don't worry, they'll have all under perform anywho.

Must be the air.

Either that, or Harry could just buy Martins. He'll only be £19.99 by now.

If 'Arry heads to Toonsyde, he'll already have Martins or am I missing something?

Are you saying if he sticks at Pompey?
