Not expecting promotion this year then JC?
I'm keeping my feet firmly on the ground at the moment. If we're still where we are in a couple of months, only then will I start dreaming of weekly thrashings next season. :D

By the way, another little gem on Sky Sports News... their reporter was apparently speaking to Allardyce as the story was breaking, and asked him what the situation was. 'News to me', said Sam, 'I'd best go and find out what's happening'.

Bloody hell.

Can't understand why everyone (e.g. the media) is raving about Shearer. What will happen if he turns out to be a crap manager, can you see the board firing him? If they want to do something in the next few years, they need to bring in a top manager from Europe and give him the time to clear out the crap in the squad and buy decent players.

They still might. Jose and Klinsi are both available, not sure if either would have any interest in Toon.

I think you're right, they'll give Shearer what Allardyce probably needed -- time to work.

Shearer is being lauded as the next manager due to his achievements at the club as a player and because of the high regard he's held in by the Newcastle supporters. He has no managerial experience apart from a short spell as the caretaker assistant a couple of years back – has he even completed his coaching badges yet?

They had a top manager until a few hours ago, one who clearly needed time and backing to rebuild the club. Instead of backing their man, the board buckled under pressure and got shut.

Let's be honest – if you were a top European manager would you go anywhere near Newcastle United? I know I wouldn't.

Phil Parkinson has more coaching badges than anyone, doesn't make him a good manager.

Yeah, but didn't they give Southgate a waiver in consideration of the fact that he was playing so recently?

Shearer retired 18 months ago!

And, he's been in the picture since to manage for A WHILE

Wikipedia said:
Shearer currently works as a pundit for the BBC's Match of the Day. In July 2006 he turned down a role with England,[3] although he has expressed his desire to become a manager.[4] He still needs to gain the required qualifications: he is currently working on the UEFA Pro Licence, required to manage a team in European competition. As a pundit he is thought of as straight talking, uncompromising and unlike some not blinded by club allegiance.

but I can't see him being anything else than a disaster as Newcastle manager. Which – all things considered – could be quite entertaining.

could not agree more.

Or as Alan Hansen put it at the weekend "we've all won the FA cup, apart from you Al" and that sums up what he has achieved in the game, apart from when Blackburn bought the Premiership in 95.

My views might be distorted by the fact that I can't stand Shearer, but I can't see him being anything else than a disaster as Newcastle manager. Which – all things considered – could be quite entertaining.

^^^ What he said.

I bet Roy Keane is enjoying it.

As Jaffa Cake said, the board has made a mistake in firing Big Sam. If their reasoning is that he didn't turn the club's fortunes around, they have a total lack of understanding of the time frame necessary to have that impact. I doubt Mourinho, Klinsmann or anyone else would have much better.

They'll only have themselves to blame if they get relegated - at least with Allardyce you'd have expect things to improve given enough time...

There is this bloke at Man Utd, not sure if he is any good, but he was doing worse than big Sam, they stuck by him and I don't think he did too bad in the long run.

Not that I'd like it to happen for a moment, but Steve Clarke the assistant coach at Chelsea would make a top-class first team manager, although I believe his loyalties lie at the Bridge.

I think you're on to something. They're going to need a mountain of cash to get anyone to take that job (except for maybe Bruce Arena... hahahahaha)

Shearer's distancing himself.

Redknapp's distancing himself - I don't understand why he was tipped in the first place. Aren't Pompey and Newcastle on roughly equal footing? (Ignoring the far superior job security / skewed expectations of the toon board.)

bloody reporters are all over the place, stopping anyone who is thick as, and asking what they think – flipping circus, the club is a joke.

I am glad Sam ‘Hippo Head’ Allardyce has gone, he is not up to it and never would be. Those idiots who say look at Ferguson and Wenger’s success as proof the longterm works. Hippo Head is NOT comparable to either of them!

Sod of Sam and pass the poisoned chalice on to someone more worthy.

No, he's not. But as things stand, you're not likely to get a manager of the calibre of Ferguson or Wenger in at Newcastle. Allardyce represented a chance – not a guarantee, but a chance – to get the club in order. Would he have succeeded in the long term? We'll never know now.

I await the appointment of the next Newcastle manager with some interest. As a Newcastle supporter B&Wtoon, who would you like to see given the job?

Allardyce was not good enough, never would be. He was destroying the club at an alarming rate. I am not deluded like many who seem to think they deserve to be watching Brazil every week, I am old enough to remember the 1980's!

I would be happy enough if we never won a trophy as long as we dont go back to those days, the boring/predictable observation of ‘won nowt’ does not wash here.

As for who I want, sorry not getting into that as the decision has got nothing to do with me, and I have no idea of what ’ball park‘ we can afford. The one thing that will come out of it is the level of intent of the new owners.......

...but, please not Steve McClaren!!!

To be fair, Newcastle have had pretty much the same kind of season as they have had for the last 4 years.
