Well agger did score a few goals. Kuyt may be turning it around, I think perhaps repositioning him as a winger as in the Inter game is what is needed. He makes a good winger but not a good striker. Crouch needs to be in week in week out. Voronin hasn't been used much lately at all. But yes we still need someone else.

Voronin will be out for a while IIRC, not to worry since he didn't exactly light up the league. Crouch hasn't gotten enough games this season and he's rusty...
If I were Rafa I'd be starting Crouch and subbing in Kuyt rather than the other way around. And I would shave the goatee.

If playing Kuyt as a winger is the best way to use him we might not need him at all...still, if he starts scoring goals I won't complain too much.

Liverpool have a fairly easy schedule for the next few weeks but then we have to play Man U, Everton, Blackburn and Arsenal in succession (and I think those are all away matches?). Plus Tottenham away on the last day of the season...If we're going to secure that 4th place and challenge for Champions League glory our form needs to improve.

Well, Newcastle are six points clear of danger now, though their goal difference is third worst in the league. If they stay on current form I think Sunderland and either Wigan or Bolton may pass them in the table, but I don't think they're going down. Seems like most football fans want to see them in the Championship though.;)

I thought I'd never see a worse season than Sunderland's -'05-'06 campaign...but Derby...ouch:

Paul Jewell after today's game said:
I'm embarrassed at the way we played. I can accept losing but not like that, it was a disgrace. Some players are not worthy of being here and the sooner we can get them out the better. We've got to do some wheeling and dealing to get this team back in the Premier League."

So Match of the Day showed the replay of it. Definite red card.

Both the freekick and the penalty were really really **** decisions from the referee for Brum, and Adebayor had a stonewall penalty not given for pulling his shirt in the area.

****ing pissed off about that, those points are crucial for us.

Swings and roundabouts they say.

Arsene Wenger retracts criticism

Admits earlier statement that Martin Taylor "should never play football again" were "excessive".

Fair play to him after all he saw they state of the injury so had every right to be emotional.

It seems that it was simply a very unfortunate accident.

The challenge was still high with studs showing and late so not a total accident but I have no doubt that there wasn't any intent and was just slightly reckless.

Newcastle's defending was simply poor.

It would have been a penalty if Adebayor (who had a crap game by the way) had not kicked the ball 20 yards away before Nafti got hold of him.
Your first goal should have been ruled out for Adebayor climbing all over Taylor (the ref had already given a foul for him doing exactly the same thing when Rigdewell cleared Bendtner's header off the line)

But I'll agree the ref had a shocker, and made crap decisions against both teams.

****ing well pleased about that, those points were crucial for us.

Nice to see AW retracting his most ludicrous statements about Martin Taylor.

Newcastle we're good again. MEn man that finds this the funniest? I'm betting it's Big Sam. ;) Newcaslte will get relegated before they call for the head of 'King' Kev, he'll walk away long before then though.

Also, I fancy Spurs for the Carling Cup Today. 1-0.

Spurs have looked good (since we beat them 3-2) and I think they've got a good chance, but not 1-0 more 2 or 3 - 1.

EDIT - One little thing, I've read through a few other forums talking about Eduardo's injury and the number of disgusting comments flying around about Taylor, Wenger and Eduardo is sickening. I'm so please to see that here, on this forum it has been an passionate but adult and controlled discussion without the need for the moderators to step in.

Yesterdays Birmingham v Arsenal match was the first game of football that I've watched for almost six months and I'd like to make some observations!

1. At the time I didn't think that 'that' challenge was all that bad, but after seeing the replay from another angle on Match of the Day I must say it was horrific. (Maybe Steve Bruce would also like retract his statement?)

2. Was Andy Gray always that bad a commentator? He should try describing what actually happens on the pitch and not his own footballing prejudice. Claiming that Adebayor was climbing all over the Birmingham keeper to set up the first Arsenal goal, when he simply outjumped Taylor.

3. Since I've returned home from my travels Arsenal have drawn two and lost the other game that they've played. So would any Arsenal fans like to have a quick whip 'round and give me a couple of grand so that I can bugger off again and lift the jinx that I appear to have placed on the Gunners!? ;)

1. If you watch the replay on MOTD you see Taylor starts the tackle with his foot on the floor going for the ball, Eduardo's quick feet got the ball out of the way of Taylor, not sure how you expect Taylor to pull out of the tackle at that point. Please do explain why Steve Bruce should retract his statement.

2. As Andy Gray was a Villa player I'm sure he has no love for Birmingham. The ref had given a foul against Adebayor for exactly the same type of challenge on Maik Taylor earlier in the game. That is what Gray was talking about.

3. No comment.

Not for nothing, Gareth Barry has just fouled Kitson, foot high up, studs showing caught Kitson in the shin, only main difference, Kitson's foot was of the ground. Response from the ref... Free kick. just shows these types of tackles happen all the time and Eduardo was just mighty unlucky yesterday.

1. While I agree that Taylor didn't intend to hurt Eduardo and that he was simply too slow (too early in the game, maybe?) it is a clear cut red card. Quick role reversal: would Steve Bruce say the same thing if he was the manager of Arsenal or if one his Wigan players gets fouled in a similar way? No, he'd be ranting and raving, as I hope any manager would. Accidental or otherwise, it was a horrific tackle that was rightly red carded.

2. The Birmingham goalkeeper made a mistake in coming out to a cross that he got nowhere near, the Arsenal striker simply outjumped him - Adebayor was earlier and higher that Taylor - and it was a perfectly clean challenge. Do you agree that goalkeepers are too well protected in that aspect?

I think the fact Wenger withdrew his statement about Taylor shows what he said was in the heat of the moment. Bruce was just saying what type of player Taylor is. A big lumbering giant with a heart of gold.

Goalkeepers are way to well protected in todays game. I was the school goalkeeper (only time I played) and used to come out of games black and blue but then again so did their forwards :D Maik Taylor was later for both balls (the one given as a foul and the goal) I think Gray was saying the second one was more of a foul than the first.

It's the final sentence that irks me: "Some would say it is not even a yellow card."

Add to this the "He's a nice bloke" attitude and you'd think that Taylor was the victim who's lying in a hospital bed with a mangled leg whilst facing the prospect of not playing football for a long time.

I just hope we see a winner from open play and not on penalties. :D

Spurs!

Terry furious with the penalty and having a word with the officials. Just shut up and play.

brilliant job Tottenham get in there.

Weird that out of both goal keepers Robinson and Cech it was Cech that made the mistake.

Thank you. I fail to see the foul Adebayor makes jumping on the keeper, and I also think it's just ludicrous you can try and say it isn't a red card.

Finally - so there is no complaint re: Brum penalty and Brum freekick which lead to two goals? They were simply wrong decisions. Also, Ade kicking the ball away - he was still definitely going to make it though, wasn't he - there was no one else taking the ball. So tugging him back is still a foul. Foul in the penalty area = penalty. Simple, clear penalty.

Whatever, it's happened now.
