Have they decided on a suitably bullish name yet? :p

Not that I know of - my guess is that it will have something to do with the Revolutionary War, since it's Philly.

I have heard that they'll get a brand-new $30 million dollar stadium though.

The FA really don't help themselves sometimes do they:

Linky

Bloody hell. I hope someone with a brain in the FA steps in and puts this right...if indeed there is a person with a brain on the FA payroll. :D

That's my local team just gone one upon Werder Bremen thanks to a goalkeeping error. The game is being shown live on BBC1 Scotland.

I think they'll need at least another to take away with them, Bremen won't be easy at home.

Trying to keep it remotely on topic, Bolton one up, Spurs one down at HT.

* EDIT That's the second just gone in thanks to another error.

Sorry, you lost me with that one?

Has it got to the stage where we post random football results now?

OK then, my turn:

Wrexham 1 - 1 Mansfield

Proctor 70 - Boulding 53

no. it is my fave team. i realize they are not in the prem as of now or even in the foreseeable future. just fun to post their results, or, it was fun. this thread has a few other "non-prem" sides not mentioned from time to time... thought it would be ok to do the same for them. especially when i tried to start a Roma/Serie A thread and it got locked. no worries though, won't happen again.

In England news, Capello says it's likely that Golden Balls will get his 100th cap against France...

My guess is that Capello will get this 100th cap business out of the way and that will be the end of Beckham's England career.

Philadelphia has been given the newest MLS expansion team, in case anyone cares...:D

He'll play him in the US-England friendly - would be daft not to.

Watched the Florentina - Everton game, the first half was very poor game to watch. Switched over at half time to the Tottenham - PSV Eindhoven game and saw the goal, porr defending but the chance was taken really well. It seemed like a good match but as my housemate is Italian we switched back. Personally if think everton got it wrong as you have to assume for an away game that you are going to concede so why play one up front. I would've started with two up so that maybe they could've snuk a goal. The two goals were really good though, the play for the second was really nice to watch and cluminated in a brilliant assist with a great finish.

It looks like Everton are going out as they have to make at least two goals but if Florentina get one then it shoots up to 4, not going to happen.

Tottenham have to go over to Eindhoven and get a goal, again I don't really see this happening.

When is that?

They are on about having on in May, 26th I think.

Don't worry about it! It is great to see non-premiership stuff discussed here, most people find the premiership full of far too many pre-madonnas anyway. So who do you support, the Wendies of the Baggies?

20 some odd + years(circa 1982-1984) ago a college friend of mine and i were talking about football and (this was before i became a fan football) i laughed and said i like the names of some of the teams, manchester united f.c., and he threw in, "well my favorite team is tottenham hotspur f.c." . he knew a bit about the game and he went on to tell me how most of the teams were as old as the hills and the history and how they are a very big part of the community and at one point he says something like "the team with the best name in football might be sheffield wednesday." and i said "that is my favorite team"., at the time, joking of course.

i like spurs as well. BUT i didn't really start following football for another 10 yrs or more. '94 WC was the first time i paid any attention.

Cool, thanks...looks like we're set to get clobbered in all of those friendlies, except maybe Poland. It's good to see the US national team playing more away friendlies under Bob Bradley...it used to be that the team rarely left the states.

There was a great article over at FSC a while back about how beating Mexico is no longer enough.

I think a friend of mine and I are going to try and head up to NYC to catch the Argentina game - ought to be sweet - my third US MNT game.

Here you go. It's got a little bunny on it and everything. :)

Altogether now:

"Milk?"

"It's what Ian Rush drinks."

"Ian Rush!?"

"Yeah, he said if I don't drink lots of milk, when I grow up I'll only be good enough to play for Accrington Stanley"

"Accrington Stanley!"

"Ger' off!"

"Give me some!"

Aah, the memories!

The Gods smile on Portsmouth today!
Indeed. Excellent result for Pompey... :)

What bothers me is that Benitez has finally come to his senses and started using Torres regularly from start, and stopped resting him every other league match. This means that Liverpool has started winning, for frell's sake... what's up with that...? :(

Rafa seems to prefer 4-5-1 formations or other more conservative setups so having a skilled pure center forward like Torres works right into his tactics.

But I'm also still at a loss as to why he rested Torres so much while Kuyt and Voronin floundered uselessly and Crouch couldn't get a game. The only clue has been the several times that Benitez has defended his rotation by saying that at the end of the season players like Torres will be fresh while Tevez, Drogba, Ronaldo et. al. will be worn out. Bollocks - Ronaldo has 30 goals in all competitions and Torres would probably have 30 as well (or more) if Rafa had been playing him. Neither shows signs of tiring.

EDIT: Gerrard and Torres are forming an increasingly effective partnership...another hat trick for El Niño on the cards? Poor Newcastle look set for a serious drubbing.

Congrats to Portsmouth - whatever the truth about the penalty situation, Pompey defended well.
