Same as Torres, you mean?

Talking about crying though...

C'mon, you Blues.

(not hopeful, but given the Gunners recent results, things might go OK... don't know about starting with Ballack)

Story of Liverpool's season. Can't score, a bit weak in defense. Mascherano was stupid to argue with the ref...especially in such a big game. Gutted that they put three past us though, it's embarrassing.

United look so strong these days....if I didn't completely hate them before, I do now. :D Can't wait for Fergie to retire, but he wants to surpass Liverpool in the number of titles won, and he can smell blood now.

I want to see Arsenal take the title and I think they can still do it, but with United's current form they really need to beat Chelsea today or I think it's over. They've started well and they've got Van Persie back, so I have hopes.

1-0 to the Arsenal

1-1 now. Great result for Man Utd, poor result for the neutral at the moment.

Goalscorer Sagna is off with an injury, Carvalho is sporting a fetching bandage on his head after knocking heads challenging for a header...

Anelka and Belletti replace Makalele and Ballack.

Terry has closed down Adebayor pretty effectively so far, and Van Persie looks a bit rusty.

Uh Oh. Drogba equalizes for Chelski with a powerful strike.

EDIT: A second strike from Drogba and things are following Ferguson's script nicely. :(

Ugh. :(

It was Arsenal's title to lose a few weeks ago...the draws really damaged their chances but this defeat is the final nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned. United will have to drop significant points for anything to change...if that happens Chelsea have as good of a chance as Arsenal.

Oh well, there's always the Champions League...

Arsenal really looked flat, Adebayor was very quiet.

This should quiet Avram Grant's doubters a bit though.

Another massive win for Hull, but just as large a win for Carlisle. 3 points into the automatic promotion places with a game in hand over Doncaster. Looking good so far.
Indeed – that result caught my eye yesterday. Automatic promotion ftw, as I believe the youngsters say. :)

Anyway, onto today's football... I said about 10 seconds before the red card was shown that Mascherano was liable to get himself sent off if he didn't buck his ideas up – it was a stupid sending off and I'm sure Benitez will be making his feelings fully known to the Argentinean.

Did you see the Liverpool player (not sure which one, had a cut above his eye) have a right go at Mascherano for getting himself sent off?

I don't think he will be Mr. Popular at the moment.

Also does anyone on here watch the Championship on ITV. It is an utter disgrace. OK I am glad that football league gets some coverage, but to only give 30 seconds per team (apart from 1 game) is a disgrace and a waste of time. Why can't they just do it properly like Match Of The Day?

Anyway, I hopefully wont be watching the Championship next year :D

That would have been Xabi Alonso, if memory serves. I spied Gerrard giving him a right good talking too as well.

Maybe Mascherano should have followed John Terry's sterling example, after the Chelsea captain has declared that officials need to be shown more respect. He apparently finds it quite distasteful seeing players haranguing officials, trying to influence their decisions and all that.

Once again, I'm left thinking about pots and kettles.

Yeah R.Youden, I don't watch The Championship due to work, but I have seen it and I agree. Thing is, MOTD doesn't have 3 Leagues to cover. I do feel the Football League deserves more though.

Not this then, Jaffa. ;) [NSFW - I do own that T-Shirt Though] The irony of that whole situation with John Terry is that although he is by far the worst 'player' (I'll use that loosely when describing John Terry) for having a go at the ref, by an absolute country mile, as the Captain of Chelski he'll be able to 'express his views' to the match official. Mmmmm, wait a second there...

Carragher had his fair share of goes at the ref today as well, but 1 sending off and 3 goals is good enough for me.

Just watched the sending-off on MOTD 2. All Mascherano was saying is "What's that for? What's that for?"

I know that he may have been booked for repeated descent, but that is silly really! Ref over reacted in my opinion.

The fact remains though that he'd been badgering the referee repeatedly – he'd no doubt have been warned about his conduct prior to the dismissal and as a professional should have known better.

Oh yeah, but I think the ref needs to use a bit of common sense.

IMHO if you are asking a ref for an explanation then the ref should tell him, not just bring out a yellow. If the refs are open and show mutual respect for the players then this will go a long way towards helping the situation.

You watch the refs in rugby they explain their decisions to the players and they accept decisions. When ever a ref makes a decision, ie a booking, the captain of the team should always be present and that should help the scenario, hopefully!

I agree that Javier should have shut up, and it was a technically correct decision but IMHO it was a bit harsh...and you'd better believe that if the situation was reversed Ferguson would be livid and calling for the ref to be sacked.

Liverpool were being outplayed before the sending off, but I disagree with Rooney's statement that it didn't make a difference in the result - I think the scoreline would have been less embarrassing if Liverpool had finished the game with 11 men.

This is why we need a rule in football that only the captain can speak to the ref. That way there would be no scenes like yesterday or wednesday when almost the whole chelsea team were going at the ref. It would mean the ref could (in a calm manner) explain why he's just given a foul/booked/sent off a player, and if any one but the captain has a go at the ref, they get book.

Still would like to see the idea of the sin bin brought in. 10 minutes on the bench (on the opposite side of the pitch from the manager and coaches, so they can't use the time to give pep talks or tactics) would keep more games interesting.
