It was a fantasic game - as a Gooner it sucks that they got a cheeky pen when we didn't get ours last week but that's how the cookie crumbles. If the missed chances were taken back at the Emirates then this could have been solved last week already.

Cheers, Slackbladder.. or the Black Dagger.... ;) (trying to cheer myself up here..)

What you described is the exact feeling of this game.

Oh well... going to watch a Top Gear episode to have some fun now...

Adebayor missed a sitter today as well, and Crouch did his best Bendtner impression by blocking a teammate's shot. Could have gone quite differently, they were both pretty open ties overall.

The Crouch thing was actually pretty well worked by him, there was a shot form Auerilo which was going we wide and he tried to turn it goal wards, almost worked as well.

In regards to the penalties as I said at the time (well heavily hinted) the Arsenal one was a pen. The premier league game also was a pen and tonights was a pen. Not really a soft penalty though. Such a nervy match it was almost unbearable.

Diaby did really well to get the goal. Hyypia brilliant header, although if you have a man on the post you expect them to stay on the post and clear those.

Torres is class.

Adebayor really should've scored, all he had to do was control it and he would have automatically be passed Reina.

The final goal was poor goal keeping, if you see it from behind the goal Almunia basically showed the entire side of the goal to Babel, although at that point it was almost academic.

Have to say great run by Walcott and it is almost a shame that the headlines are going to be about Liverpool winning rather than this effort.

Last week and tonight I was seriously worried about Walcott coming on as I knew with Hyypia in defence he had the potential to cause major problems, if it were me I would've had Walcott on in the beginning.

Can someone send out a search party for Van Persie.

Great game and ultimately it probably game down to the penalty desicision being given tonight and not last week.

That's good to hear - the rumblings about Crouchy leaving are getting loud and I think it would be a shame to lose him. Given time he and Torres might form an effective partnership.

Van Persie seems to be playing like a player that is just not yet match fit. He's been away too long.

And I agree on the penalty call deciding things.

I'm glad that Arsenal is out of the board! Don't like this club.. But I should say that I began to like it more after Henry has gone.. Don't know why but I don't like him... + I was supporting Liverpool.. :)
I guess Man. Utd. will confidently pass AS Roma tonight.. Barca also will pass Schalke-04..
So we will see Liverpool - Chelsea and Man. Utd. - Barca in semi..
I wish Chelsea comes to Moscow in spite of I don't like their game for today...

Last night's game (Liverpool vs. Arsenal) was one of those fantastic matches that only occasionally happens were the best team didn't win and the best team didn't lose, just a brilliantly entertaining match.

  • The 'turning point' was Flamini's injury and substitution - I wouldn't be surprised if he's made captain eventually.
  • Torres scored a fantastic goal.
  • Walcott's run was extraordinary, if it was Ronaldo or Gerrard the press / pundits would be 'creaming' over it.
  • It was a dodgy penalty. If his ankles were tripped or his shirt pulled, then fair enough, but I just didn't see any 'offence'. Babel wasn't fouled and neither did he dive, he simply lost his balance under the pressure of a challenge.
  • Toure is a centre-back and not a full-back. He needs to resume his partnership in central defence with 'le sulk'.
  • Lastly, the most important comment about last nights results: Football will once again be subjected to the most tedious 'glamour tie' there is - Liverpool vs. Chelsea in a knockout competition. (I think I'll be counting rice, or something equally interesting, on both of those nights! :p )

Avram grant refuses to play a sane formation...he had Essien as a right back and why. doesn't. he. play. Drogba and Anelka up front??????

I think Liverpool will beat Chelsea as well. Grant will be looking over his shoulder at the league title and will be too conservative.

I think if you look at the 3 penalty decisions in the last 3 Arsenal Liverpool games, anyone would have to say Arsenal have been extremely hard done by. In the first 2 games, there is clearly contact between the two players, and its a pull down both times. Clear penalty. In the game last night, it looks to me as if Toure is trying not to touch the man. He bumps into him but he is clearly not trying to foul him or to make contact. Sometimes given, but it certainly is a soft one.

It's not totally down to the penalty decisions, naive defending was to blame too.. Senderos should have been closer to Torres, and Senderos was lost by Hypia. It was a very good header and Fabregas on the line couldn't do anything. Ade was frustrating, should have easily scored before he did, and celebrated the one he did score like it was a 30 yard stunner, anyone could have tapped it in.

Walcott's run was stunning, and that was the clear breathtaking point, I think even Liverpool fans will agree, of the match. He went from our box to the Liverpool box past about 5 players in 8 seconds, stunning. I feel so sorry for him.. if the dodgy penalty wasn't given, that would be remembered as one of the great Arsenal moments - and it would be a career defining moment. As it is, it ended in heartbreak for him. He looked like he was about to cry at the end when he came and applauded the Arsenal fans. He is looking like it is finally coming of age.

I feel we should have won the tie, on balance, and played better football, created better chances. In the end our defending let us down, and there weren't many Liverpool chances they didn't convert, compared to ours. Totally totally gutting game and it's hard to go away with nothing. When Adebayor scored (I typed Walcott scored first, and had to correct myself - he basically did score), I went totally mental.. and then seconds later brought crashing down by a penalty decision.

I haven't picked up a paper, but I hope that doesn't go down as another famous Liverpool carried by the crowd, Arsenal intimidated by the atmosphere etc etc game.. we clearly weren't affected by the Anfield European atmosphere - we scored 2 very good goals and should maybe have won the game. But we didn't, and there you go. I hope Liverpool go on to beat Chelsea, and if it's United in the final, to beat them too. If it's Barca in the final, however, I will have to be a Barca fan for the day. To put it simpler - Liverpool are by far the lesser evil of the rest of the "big 4".

I never really fancied going to Moscow anyway... Rome will be much nicer. Next year, I have a feeling its only top 3 to qualify for the CL isn't it? Because United didn't get out of the group stage 3 years ago or something like that? Just something I have heard going around. Also, I don't know if next year is the first Saturday CL final, or if that will be the year after, at the Bernebeu..

Walcott's run was amazing. I think people who criticize him forget he's still young, and not yet the finished article. But he certainly looked solid yesterday.

I fancy our chances against Chelsea...they are playing their third-string keeper and Grant (as I said before) knows nothing of team selection. I think the only thing preventing Chelsea from being top of the league right now is Avram Grant...he's a decent manager but simply not good enough for a team with Chelsea's ambitions.

Did you see the pictures of Petr Cech? it looks like Tal Ben Haim gave him a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick to the face.

The Kop means nothing anymore. Pah, The Kop. Gary Neville kisses his badge in front of the Kop.

How could he? Neville spends all his time in the physio room. :D

Prawn sandwich territory it is not, but it's true that Anfield has been less talismanic for Liverpool this season than usual.

The Man U - Roma tie looks to be a joke. The Italians are playing like they are trying to throw the game. They can't possibly the THAT bad!?!?

Roma seem to have settled slightly but they should be one up - a very critical miss considering they need to score two and keep a clean sheet to take it to penalties...

It was one of the first things they mentioned in the post-match discussions on the telly last night, actually.

Maybe the crowd ought to try similar heroics during their less glamourous league matches, then they might pick up a few more points during the course of the season? ;)

I find it incredible that people would even suggest an Italian side would look like they're trying to throw a match. Shame on you. :D

This is all I really wanted to say on the matter...
