England is still in with a huge shout, IMHO.
Oh, we're still in with a chance, make no mistake about it. The problem is with each key player who withdraws through injury, it only highlights more and more our lack of strength in depth. We've got a great team, granted, but our squad isn't as good as many of the teams we might come up against.

I'm hoping Sven will use the remaining friendlies he has before the World Cup to properly try out a few of the younger players, to at least give them some experience before the competitive games kick off. I fear it might be a case of too little, too late though. :(

I will be supporting the Spanish this year :)

me too.

i assume BakedBeans and I are on the same page here...

We're Liverpool fans, not "Eng-ur-land" fans. Seeing as a lot of our players are Spanish, we'll be rooting for them. I basically watch the games for the Liverpool players, and for love of the sport. I hope Gerrard will do well, for instance, but don't really care if England don't.

:)

Not being in an English pub the atmosphere is not the same. I was in the Victory pub near Regents Park when England beat Argentina last time, it was mayhem when England scored. Shame they can't ever string two good performances together in a row. I fear it will be the same this year. So I'll be supporting Australia.

EDIT: come on Fat Sam you can do it. Let's hope it's 1-0 to Bolton.

Going to wear orange ofcourse!
Nice pub nearby which will be tansformed into an orange-Heineken-football gathering ;)

But.... if we leave prematurely, I'll be eager to see Henry play alot, so hoping France will do well.

No need to be bitter. Spurs have put in some fantastic performances this season, not least against your boys last week.

Yeah. I was at Highbury for that one. We couldn't play our game, and that was to Tottenham's credit.

BTW....
If Arsenal do win the CL, and the Spurs stay 4th, is it true that Tottenham won't be able to qualify for the CL next season?
IIRC, when Liverpool was in the same situation with Everton (ironically also their home town rivals) last year, I thought both of them were able to qualify.

Yep, that is true, but it's also a big 'if' - on both counts.

I'm not sure that scenario would be a complete disaster for Spurs. A top-four finish is an achievement in itself and the Champions League is notoriously difficult for teams without prior experience - even Arsenal took a decade to make any real impact on the competition. The Uefa Cup would perhaps give Tottenham a gentler re-introduction to European football.

How long ago was it since Spurs played European football?
If they play like this season, they have an excellent chance in the UEFA.

Spurs last played in Europe in 1999-2000, after winning the League Cup.

Yep, I think Spurs would have a good chance of making some headway in the Uefa Cup. Arsenal would surely win it.
