Have a great time there, I envy you!

I've done all I can to support, i.e., changed my MR signature and location :D

:D

Another couple of nice quotes about Dennis:

"If Ryan Giggs is worth £20 million, Bergkamp is worth £100 million."
Marco van Basten

"I have always said Dennis Bergkamp will remain the best partner I have ever had. He is a dream for a striker. He is not greedy — you saw that on the second goal [against West Brom on Saturday]. He could have just gone for glory because it was Dennis Bergkamp Day — but no. He dummied the goalkeeper, cut the ball back for Robert Pires who put it in the back of the net. The most important thing is the team. That is why I admire Dennis, and that is what he has been doing for a long time. I have always said he is the best guy that I have played with. Sometimes you have players who do not have to talk, you just have to watch them — and that is the case with Dennis. If you are in the game, on the bench or watching on TV, you want to learn then Dennis Bergkamp, with the way he can kill a team with one pass, is just amazing. He will sometimes do things out of nowhere."
Thierry Henry

"Nobody will ever forget Dennis Bergkamp - and everybody who will play in this position for years to come will be compared to Dennis Bergkamp. As much as Thierry Henry is a top target striker, Dennis Bergkamp as a provider was unique."
Wenger

*Sigh*

Can't quite believe he is going..

Seems as though we will also see Ian Wright Wright Wright and Paddy back for us tomorrow. :D

Honestly mate, have a fantastic day. I keep seeing the Emirates when flying back into Heathrow. Highbury could fit on the pitch!

Bergkamp is a legend, one of the best to wear the jersey. All hail Dennis! :D

Thanks.

Yeah.. amazing isn't it, seeing the two from the air.

I keep finding more stuff about Dennis..

On Arsenal.com:

It is customary for the testimonee to get a goal on his big day. Some of the proceeds of the gate are going to charity but Bergkamp does not want the same from his fellow players.

“I don’t think they will [gift a goal] and if they did I would feel a little bit embarrassed. If it is my own effort then fine.”"

Sort of predictable he'd feel like that. :)

This is a nice article as well.

Hope it's a cracking game tomorrow. Dennis has been a fantastic player, one of the best foreign talents we've had in this country, and hopefully he'll have a good send off. :)

It's live on Channel 5 if anyone is interested. :D

Have a good time today XIII, and post up some pictures if you get the chance to take any.

Stadium looks amazing. The only played 80 minutes though. Is that normal for a testimonial? Never noticed it before.

Huntelaar got the first goal in the new stadium.... i also hope it is a sign of things to come ;)

Yeah, I know...I was meaning Arsenal of course. :p

Here's a picture from the BBC Sports site. It works well with my location ...

This is the most bizarre thing.. for all of the high tech stuff at Emirates (the HD screens looked goooood), there was no clock ANYWHERE telling us how long to go in the half, etc. Wierd.

I do have some photos.. I'll post them up later. :) Very impressed with the stadium overall, although in terms of getting out.. its much worse than Highbury. There are an extra 20,000 people coming week in week out, yet no real improvements have been made to the transport situation.. in fact, its worse - there is just further to walk to Arsenal tube station. Packed, and slow..

I'll update later. :)

(Oh - and I got the white shirt as opposed to the red, orange, or black ones that were left on our seats for us)

Nice. I figured that must have been a gift. Do the shirts have that footballer outline that the players had on their shirts?

As for transport, I read there's lots of work "planned" for the tubes, some of it quite soon, but its going to take several years before it's really any better (like 2009/10)

That's weird about the clock too. They must have one going up at some stage?

Still don't get the 80 minutes - maybe the ref forgot his watch too and was just counting in his head, hence the mistake ;)

Yes, the shirts have the Dennis Bergkamp figure on them.

Then they say:

Dennis Bergkamp Testimonial
Arsenal vs Ajax
Saturday, July 22nd, 2006
Emirates Stadium

And on the back, they have Bergkamp 10.

I don't know how much work they can do to the tubes... It's still a matter of 45,000+ or so (guess) people trying to get into Arsenal tube station. It was appalling.. this game wasn't even full capacity.. in normal games there will be an extra 6,000 people as well.

Nope.. they didn't get a clock going all through the game. It was pretty stupid.. none of the supporters had any idea how much of the game had gone.

I saw David Dein going into the Diamond Club before the game, and got his signature on my programme:

Dear Jack

Best Regards

David Dein.

:p

And some pictures from my seat.. upper tier, green quadrant..

Cool! I hope to finally be able to get a ticket now - with the bigger stadium capacity - and have a nice weekend trip down to London, see the sights, watch some footy :D

Beautiful stadium...

I go to the US to watch NFL games and have seen most of their 'newest' stadiums which I've always felt were several years ahead of us (not least since they allow wandering around and seeing the game from various standing points too since there's no fan segregation) and saw many of the German ones pre-World Cup and Emirates Stadium looks as impressive as any of them.

And nice seats too - are they 'yours' for the season?

why bother to quote all those pictures again?

stadium looks great! i'm almost jealous of you being there ;) i'll have to make it back to Anfield before they move into Stanley Park that's for sure.

Here's a note from the Arsenal website about Clock End:

The original Clock End Clock will, of course, be coming with us to Emirates Stadium too! We’ll have more details of how the clock is to be moved and where it will be positioned in a forthcoming programme.

Yep - Emirates Stadium is a 5 star UEFA stadium, along with Old Trafford and Wembley (when it's finished) in this country.

The seats sadly won't be mine for the season.. I go to individual games, not all.. thus my seat changes. And during normal Premiership games, I will be in the lower tier. Still, the sightlines are meant to be pretty great from everywhere so.. here's hoping. :)

Yeah, I've heard that. I mean a countdown clock which says how long there is to go in the half.. how long till half time, and to the end of the game. It was on the big screens at Highbury.

Marco van Basten

I have to pick Marco van Basten up on that one. Complete and utter drivel and completely disrespectful to a hugely successful winger. Giggs was a massive part of the success Man Utd (spit) had right through the nineties) and won all these things (8 Titles, 4 FA Cups and a European cup)

FA Premier League - Champions: 1992/93, 1993/94, 1995/96, 1996/97, 1998/99, 1999/00, 2000/01, 2002/03
UEFA Champions League Winner: 1998/99
FA Cup Winner: 1994, 1996, 1999, 2004
English League Cup Winner: 1992, 2006
English FA Youth Cup Winner: 1992
Intercontinental Cup: 1999
English League Cup Winner: 1994
UEFA Super Cup Winner: 1991

Individual honours
Manchester United Players player of the year award 2005/2006
Inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame, 2005
Honoured with the greatest goal ever scored in the FA Challenge Cup, 2005
Inducted into the Premiership team of the decade, 2003
U-21 European Footballer of the Year (1993)
Intercontinental Cup man of the match (1999)

He was the best winger in the world for best part of 10 years.

Bergkamp was an exceptional player, but to imply that he is worth five times that of Ryan Giggs is stupid.

Here's a question for you... people talk about a club's longest serving player and all that, but what about the shortest amount of time a player has been on a team's books?

I ask because we signed David Livermore from Leeds today – thing is, he only signed for our hapless neighbours on July 22, commanding a fee of £400,000 no less.

Still, if he's an honest professional and a great talker I'm delighted to have him in the building. :D
