6th basically, which in terms of big club is no where, not winning much (if anything) to champions, the gap between winners and the top three is massive, about 300 million of good purchaces massive

In that case, Liverpool may just end up 'nowhere' this year.
At least our purchases have been good ones... mostly.

And as for the 'arrogance' tag, that's an accusation that's been levelled at Arsenal for the past two years, Man. Utd for longer... you sound like you have a chip on your shoulder. Inverse working-class snobbery means nothing to me...

Sorry that those past glories keep you feeling good about Liverpool... it doesn't mean much for this season or next, and if Steven Gerrard pops down here (which I don't believe will happen) then you'll have even more to worry about.

Face it, for all the money that Houllier threw away, results have been poor for your club. Why can't you be gracious about it instead of being so obviously bitter? I've wished Liverpool well before in the Liverpool thread...

I can't stand the fact that Chelsea fans (they probably only started supporting them last august via Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal) think that spending 200+ million on players and winning the league is a big achievement. It's like a Lotto winner thinking they worked hard for their money.

I did a search on the BBC for the reaction to the take-over in 2003, the majority of it wasn't good (including Tony Bank's scepticism, look at him now), now these same fans are probably hailing this little episode as a major success in the club's history, personally I think they should be ashamed, I'm glad I'm a supporter of a club with values and a sense of history not to let any tom, dick or harry take-over.

There's plenty of Chelsea fans around here down in SW London that have been supporting the club for years. No reason to feel ashamed at all.

You should stop and listen to yourself. Twisted and bitter...

Sorry, I was born like that so I can't help it, but I'd rather be that than part of a group of hypocritical 'fans'.

Where's the hypocrisy? Why put hyphens around the word 'fans'?
Like I said, what are you supposed to do? Start supporting another club just because a new owner comes in? That's even more hypocritical...

Once glance at your profile shows that I've been supporting the club since you were born. :)

When Abramovich came in, nobody knew what to expect. Personally, I was glad to see the back of Ken Bates and was worried for the club when Matthew Harding died...

If Malcom Glazer gets his mitts on Man Utd and the following year they do the treble incl. the Champions League, do you honestly expect people to say 'Well, I'm not going to support them any more'?

Get real.

Hopefully Glazer never gets hit hands on United (every real football follower in the country should support the anti-Glazer cause for the sake of the English Premiership, one view), with project excaliber and the other man (who seems to want to work with the fans) it is looking less likely.

I'm glad Chelsea have been temporarily saved but I'm not to sure about the attitude of the fans, they have been less than graceful in their recent success, it possibly annoys me more than Arsenal's reaction to losing their unbeaten run last year.

arrogant, not history, no passion, no pride not tradition clubs that think there big fish in the prmier league and there poor support means nothing to me either.

inverse working class snobbery, lol you got to love that - when all is said and done chelsea are not a big club, they havent really got many good players, i wouldnt say moroniho has spend well, kezman, drogba, cavaliho, jorosek, johnson, all flops. just the core of english talent that has pushed the club to the top of the pile for a bit. they will al ways have trouble attracting massive players. you can spend 24million on drogba 7 days a week, doesnt mean he is a massive player, he will never be a owen/adriano/shevchenko type of player, and these type of player wont come to your club because there are bigger and better teams that have been doing it for 40 years out there

whats all this rubbish about liverpools past glories making me feel better, we have won a damned site more than you in the past 5 years, and those houllier flops got us to 2nd place 7 points of the league, uefa cup, carling cup, super cup and fa cup and charity shield.

teams like chelsea (limited support clubs) have come and gone before, blackburn, leeds various spanish and italian clubs, but the worlds biggest clubs still remain at the forefront of football

Whatever... if it gives you some consolation to worry about Chelsea's money and to think that they waltzed their way to the title... fine.

Most of us have had to put up with Man Utd. dominating things for ages. Now the boot's on the other foot, it just sounds like whining.

Besides, it takes a bit more than money to put together a championship-winning team. Otherwise Liverpool would have got better returns for all the cash they've thrown at players over the past two years which admittedly, is as not much as Chelsea's, but is more than Arsene Wenger has spent in a similar time.

Face it, it's just envy. To all of you guys, if Roman Abramovich had bought your club and had poured the money in, you'd be laughing and brushing off other people's moaning about money ruining the game...

After all, what am I supposed to do? Have been a Chelsea supporter for quite a few years, it's where I live. Am I supposed to switch to Fulham because a megalomaniac millionaire has bought my club? Wait a minute...

I'm just pointing out they wouldn't be where they are today without him. That is all. :) Congratualtions to Chelsea then, better than Man Yoo winning it I guess..... *Shudder*

Thank God someone said that - it's becoming like handbags at dawn.
Liverpool did exactly the same as Chelsea in their glory days - buying all the best players, Hansen, Dalglish,Souness et al and molding them into an arrogant squad of talented believers who had the talent to back it up, along with a few journeyman. Much like Chelsea. The sums are larger but so what? Mourinho, and Benitez, are proven winners which is why they were hired and Ranieri and Houllier weren't so they were fired. Carping on about how long someone has supported a club smacks of envy and carping about tradition is arrogant as well.
Chelsea won fair and square - deal with it.

hahahaha, yeah right
we bought our success lol, yeah nice one. being proud of a successful history isnt arrogant, nor is having a history (even everton have one of those)

as for fair and square, did you not read my other post saying yes they have won the title but it doesnt make it of any less worth, damn soft cockney never had a clue about football

and whoever it was that said arsenal bought all there top players cheep, lets not be silly, like saying henry was 2-3 million, he was an 11 million winger

I am sure he was less than that.. I know he came to the club as a winger.. Meh.

There are always going to be accusations that some club or other "bought" the championship, but it ain't that easy. Houllier tried to buy a great team and failed, Benitez is doing just that with players like Xabi Alonso and the initially odd Garcia who is fast becoming a minor deity...

The key is to spot players who will a) fit in your squad/team structure and b) haven't yet reached full maturity. That way you get a player that isn't going to cost the earth and who will give years of service at the top level.

Liverpool's purchase of Morientes seems like a real gamble to me, I think he'll struggle.

Henry was transformed by his move to Arsenal, it was Wenger's foresight that allowed him to become the player he is now... Winger? Nah.

Chelski deserve their Championship, they played better than anyone else, but Abramovich's millions were the reason they did it so quickly, that and the fact Mourinho is a great manager.

Still, the wheels are coming off on Tuesday when they crash under the might of Liverpool and the Kop...;) :D

History is always going to be important to a football team, and the old guard are going to be scathing about the newcomers, I hope Chelsea survive the Abramovich era, cos when he gets bored, he'll be gone very quickly.

This is why its great I used to live near Liverpool. OK...if "big clubs always get to the top" where are Ajax, Rapid Bucharest, Steaua Bucharest, in the Champions League? Indeed - where are Forest, Villa and any other bleedin club that bought the title? Every team has bought the title - the only difference is that Chelsea have done it on a bigger scale.

trying to buy the premiership with players like alonso? no, thats just a signing, all clubs get players in.

chelsea are tapping up players offering them HUGE contracts and paying silly fee's for them (like drogba and carvalho) moroniho is a good coach, but in honesty he has been fairly luck to land at a club with a good team, ploughed more money into it and then won the title, he won the champions league with porto and thinks its he is the best manager ever to have lived, in honesty he isnt.

my point exactly, forrest/villa are not big clubs, simple... you can buy success but not sustained sucsess (so far)

I don't think Alonso is just a player, I think he's a great midfielder that Rafa saw and wanted to compliment Stevie. I'm not suggesting what Rafa's doing is the same as waht happened at Chelski, but all teams are "bought" to some extent these days, how many nationalities will be on the pitch tuesday night?

Yes, Morinho's been lucky, if you call £200 million lucky, and no, he's not the greatest. Shanks was and still is the greatest, but he's good.

The days of small, home grown squads winning Champoinships or big competitions are well and truly over. They are always going to be good opponants, but when you have a world market to plunder, you take the best you can get. Like I said, the trick is to choose the ones that fit. Thats where Houllier went wrong and why Wenger and (I hate to say this) Fergie are where they are. Benitez is a good manager, if we get to the finals it'll be in no small part down to him, and I'll count that as a good first season.

However, not getting into the CL next year will carry it's own penalties.
