Well, Man U is now owned by an american... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4550141.stm

I think he paid $US 1.6 billion for his 75.7% stake in the team.
As a Liverpool fan, I am giddy to hear about this... looks like ManU[re] may start circling the drain... he's hugely in debt, may not be able to afford the best players, has the fans in turmoil, etc.

Good times. (Plus Liverpool is in the Champions League final in 11 days!)

hehe...now you know how we felt when amoco was swallowed up by BP. and to top it off, they changed the nice red, white, and blue station theme to GREEEN. as if they are a greedy-multi-national oil company that is somehow in tune with nature. priceless...

anyway, if the end result of this is that more english SOCCER games end up on american tv (thus we can know the game should be played - minus the riots, of course) if will be good for soccer/football in the long run.

Actually BP's corporate colours have always been green and yellow. And they're one of the biggest researchers into clean energy (will try and find link).

Don't think this will change Man Utd really, anyway. All that'll happen will be that the stadium will be sponsored (the Sony Old Trafford Stafford Stadium) and they'll open a few more stores in the states - maybe starting their own channel in the US. I really can't see it kicking off football in the states tho'...

But anyway! Yakubu! Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

how about this then.....

Everton is the first club to finish among the top four in the table with a negative goal differential since Norwich finished third in 1992-93 with a –4 differential. Norwich fell to 12th the next season and was relegated the following season.

:D :D :D

or....

1978

Wales win the Grand Slam in Rugby

The Pope Dies

Liverpool lose in the League Cup final to the eventual League Champions - that year{Forest}

Liverpool win the European Cup

2005

Wales win the Grand Slam in Rugby

The Pope Dies

Liverpool lose in the League Cup final to the eventual League Champions - that year{Chelsea}

Will Liverpool make it a clean sweep and win the European Cup?

Not to mention the fact that in each of our previous European Cup victories we played in our Red strip and our opponents played in white....

Hmmm, what are we wearing?... RED. What are Milan Wearing?...... White.
:D

Talk about being duped

!

Good luck trying to find that! Corporate dope.

And my 2 sous - All clubs sell their souls for cash, they are shameless. The jersy should be sacred as should the name of the ground. But no - sell it for CASH. The premiership is ugly to the core. Where is the pride in the identities of the English clubs? Arsenal don't have any English players! Liverpool are turning Spanish. The football as a spectacle is great (I watch MOTD on satellite) but how anyone can keep alliegances today amazes me. Global capitalism gone mad.

Found it!

Both companies have also invested in renewable energies. BP is now the largest manufacturer of solar photovoltaic panels in the world. It has also invested in a major rebranding campaign, with which it hopes to convince us that it is now an ‘energy’ company, not just an oil giant.

OK - still not perfect - but getting there...

And btw - people keep allegiances beyond the nationalities of the players of their team. I support Middlesbrough because my first ever match that I went to was with my grandfather on my 7th birthday. Most fans are like that in Britain - a link to their family or town. People get unhappy about teams with no English players - and then you realise that the team is better with them in, English players are more expensive than those from any other country, and that even then you still wouldn't mind your team having all these foreign players because they are still YOUR TEAM. Modern tribalism, if you will.

YES!
Arsenal are FA cup champions!
After a dissapointing season, (2nd in the league, do I have high expectations or what?) they at least came through in the FA cup!
But I guess they would have played much better with Thierry Henry in the team and a fit Fredrik Ljungberg. Anyway, excellent penalties and a brilliant save by Jens Lehman!

You got it!

We were a bit fortunate here and there.....
Gotta feel a bit for those Mancunians... NOT! :p

I've heard of understatement but this is something else.

Lauren was terrible, Ronaldo was running rings around him, leading to quite a few opportunities. The whole defence was shaky and frequently opened, just finishing let down united.

I have to say I think the better team lost. United dominated the game and Ronaldo totally skinned Lauren.

I can't think though it'll do much for Roy Carroll's confidence that Fergie looked to be getting Tim Howard ready to come on for the penalties...

Lehmann seemed to be on something throughout the match (except during the last 10 minutes of normal time) so I had a feeling that Arsenal would win it. He just seemed to stop everything thrown at him.

Well, at least there's one club from Liverpool that gets a chance to play in Champions League next season, too... :D

Go Milan!

More like "at the most..."

You think Milan needs the encouragement? :D
