Premier League site says it's 2-2 right now. I am hoping for a draw so Liverpool can remain in uncontested 3rd place.

Thanks for that, I was following it on Arsenal's own website, where they've got commentary up to the 47th minute. Good to see that they're up on the latest technology.

Looks like you got your draw.

I am glad Charlton fans dont have to put up with the disgraceful behaviour of Ian Dowie anymore. We (Hull City) where supposed to be after him but I am glad we arn't. How anyone can say "I know Leicester has a manager but I will wait until he gets the sack before I take his place!"

Good luck Charlton but I just can't see how you can get out of this mess. Charlton, Watford and hmm, maybe Sheff Utd to go down but I aint sure. Maybe Borough if they get on a bad run.

Offside Rule....

Well this thread has been quiet for a while so I thought I would bring some life back into it. I have been sat here thinking about the offside rule, yes I am that bored!

Anyway, people say that an attacking player should not be called offside if he is not active. I can see the opinion regarding this but it becomes such a contentious rule, i.e. when does he become active? 1, 2, 3 passes time? I think that if you are going to have this active / passive rule then it should also apply to defenders. If you have a defender on the oposite side of the pitch that is playing someone at the other side of the pitch into an on-side position then is he still active?

I just think that FIFA have made the offside rule too complex and old Sep should stick to what he knows best, like trying to make women footballers have tighter tops!

Oh oh... now you've gone and done it. Questioning the offside rule is one huge can of 10' worms that fart fire and eat people. Try and get them back in the can. I dare you!

Personally I think the offside rule should be as it was. If he is offside, then he is offside. None of this interfering with play crap. If hes on the pitch hes interfering with play because someone has to mark him.

There should also be goal line technology like they have in ice hockey, and video replays for tough decisions with the team captains having 3 chances to contest a decision via video replays. It may break up the game a bit but crappy refereeing is costing teams millions and giving players false bad reputations. Also Drogba... I mean diving should be punished by red cards. Its cheating!

Bringing in video replays would ruin the game, a big part of football is being able to talk about the decisions with your mates at work or down the pub the next day.

The offside rule is tricky, i do agree with the idea of the new rules but in practice they are horrible, something does need to be done.

Drogba is a great player but he is/was a cheat no denying that.

Yep, Onside and Offside with the benefit of the doubt going with the striker. End of.

I am a Barça fan. Drogba is an arse!

I am not a Barça fan. Drogba is an arse!

i think (if i read your post correctly) you've mixed up the words "attacking" with "attacker" or "striker". a defender can also be an attacking player don't forget. if, however, you meant a defender, actually defending, well, then it would just be impossible to rule, that's why the defense as a whole has to work so well together to push up and creat the trap. defenders should ALWAYS be active in that respect.

i remember a few months back when Liverpool scored but Cisse was rules to be not interfering when the ball went straight past him and he stood there...n my mind (and i'm a liverpool fan) he was offside as he looked like he was going to go for the ball but didn't, he was too close to it for him to be ruled "passive".

I agree that the defence should work a whole but why shouldn't the strikers have to work together too? If a player is offside he is offside. If a player takes to the pitch he IS active! This is a crazy law.

you may only have one striker in the team...i do agree with you though, the newer version of the offside rule leave too much open to interpretation. i like the fact that you won't be called offside if you know it and are obviously walking back into an onside position etc, but this whole active thing, not so much.

at least it's a lot better than that retarded injury thing where you MUST go off the field, only to run back on again...pointless.

So just how exactly did Liverpool concede 6 goals at home to Arsenal?

Seems like Benitez was not going for the win with Tuesday's starting 11, and they dropped three points with their worst loss since what, the 30s?

I'm enjoying Chelsea's current form, except for the fact that it essentially allows Man U to run away with the title.

1) Easily. It would seem.

2) 3 points? It was in the Carling Cup. ;)

3) Run away with it? Hardly. Chickens... Counting... You know the drill...
