Well, my latics survived, just. Two hours of hitting the refresh button the bbc website while watching the west ham - man u game hoping the reactions of the west ham crowd would give an indication of the score in the sheff u - wigan game.

I feel bad for sheff utd, i would have liked to see west ham go down.

Also not happy today to wake up and find that Paul Jewell had resigned. I hope he means it when he said he needs a break and we don't find him as manager of man city next week. (Is man city even a better job than wigan?)

I have no interest in the fa cup final (can't stand either man u or chelsea) but bring on the play-offs and the champions league final, if it's anything like 2 years ago it'll be fun to watch.

I'm glad that you've enjoyed your first season, aloofman. As the first person to recommend Spurs to you in that thread you started all those months ago, I'll take full credit for all the fun that you've had. :p ;)

Interestingly, the columnist that I alluded to at the start of that thread has barely mentioned it since then. He later said in passing that he felt like he picked the wrong team and he found himself more enthused about Newcastle, but he hasn't elaborated on that. It's not even clear if he's watched many games this season.

Off on a tangent – and harking back to a earlier discussion about the new style Premier League shirt typeface – I was interested to see a number of clubs played yesterday wearing their 2007-2008 kits complete with the new look lettering on the back. Your boys were one of the clubs to do so – as were Sheffield United, who won't actually get to wear those numbers next season baring some unlikely legal tomfoolery going on. Ho ho. :D

OK, what's the big deal about a new typeface?

I just a bit of a geek when it comes to type and stuff – as mentioned earlier, the Premier League is having a new typeface next season to replace the bastardised version of Optima they've been using for ten years or so now. It's a big improvement in my book, so this football loving typophile is happy... ;)

End of a really pretty **** season. Well - it ended in early March actually.

Whoops, I'm a bit rude.. when it comes to football. Thanks a lot for doing that Jaffa, very funny to look back at. :D

I'll break the post-season silence to say congratulations to Derby County, who won promotion to the Premier League this afternoon following a 1-0 win over West Brom in the play-off final. Hurrah!

I was hoping County would win, for the simple reason their getting promoted means that they now have to pay us £250,000, due to a clause agreed when they bought Craig Fagan off us earlier in the season. Kerr-ching! :D

Well this is a quiet thread at the moment.

Anyway, I just though it would throw an idea into the ring. There are loads of online published calendars for all sort of random things. Maybe we, as a MacRumors community, should do a load of football calendars for English football league clubs? We could try and knock something up quite easily. The full fixture list is published in a few weeks and it could be nice little thing to do.

Anyone interested as I sure as hell aint doing all 92 clubs by myself!

Big Job and im not 100% sure what it is, but I'm in, it sounds fun.

As Jaffa said, fixtures are changed, but can we not edit the fixtures as they are changed? Shouldn't really be that many changed, all being well.

Sky usually change all the ones I want to go to to 3am on a Monday morning.

I've actually put together an iCal fixture list the past few seasons for City for my own personal use, but it always seems to end up horribly out of date – and bear in mind that's for the team I support. I always just end up referring to the fixture card in my wallet, as I always have that with me anyway.

Fixtures can often change on the quiet – one thing that is sometimes tricky to keep track of is when they don't change the date but they alter the kick-off time, usually due to the insistence of the Police or Sky. Of course, it's easy enough to update the iCal file to reflect the fixture change just so long as you're on the ball and realise where the changes are needed.

Huh? :( Thats just gone totally over my head.

On a related point tho, are you worried about Henry leaving XIII? If I was you I wouldn't be. He's a damn good player, but I can only compare him to Van the Man leaving United, it's kind of like hes served his purpose, isn't really taking the team forward anymore and it's the right time to leave. Only thing I would be worried about is others leaving because of his departure.

Sorry, I was just exaggerating Sky's fooling around with fixtures. :)

Well.. I guess I am worried, but not for the obvious reasons. Firstly as an Arsenal fan if I think he has served his purpose, I have to think why all the top teams in Europe want him - he is clearly still an important player. Barca and Milan wouldn't want him if that isn't the case. Secondly, like you say, he is a big pull for people coming to Arsenal, and yeah, others leaving or not coming in the first place is a problem. But lastly and most importantly for me, I have an emotional connection to him! He is the clubs top goal scorer ever, so with all due respect to RvN, its not quite the same thing. Most people, hopefully you included, acknowledge that he has been, and in my opinion still is, a joy to watch at times. Its hard to let him go. I would hate to see him playing for anyone else. I want him to finish his career at Arsenal, really. Also, he has had an injury full season this year, his first really. Who's to say he won't get 20+ next year?

Just my thoughts. Can stand to see titi leave basically. :(

I can say it, but it pains me so much... He will be a big loss for the EPL, even if it is only for that dance him and Emmanuel Adebayor do when he scores. ;) Oh no, I wasn't meaning in all terms it was the same as RvN's departure, just in that I feel he had done all he could for United and we (As I feel Arsenal do now) needed to go in a slightly different direction. This far from means he's passed his best as he still is clearly a fantastic player, I guess we're just now getting into the football cliche that is a new challenge and all that. I know 100% what you mean about the emotional connection tho, I remember crying then Eric Cantona announced his retirement, and I know it'll happen again when Ole Gunnar does, but thats all we'll say about that.

I just feel it's prolly best for his career, and for Arsenal to get some new faces in. It's getting a little stale and has even started to move backwards. Then again, as you pointed out, he might come back and score 20+ next season. But these dilemmas are why we all love the greatest game in the world, right?... ;) :D

He very well may – the only thing is, it might not be at Arsenal.

If he does go, hopefully it won't come back to bite Arsenal on... erm... the arse – can you imagine Henry scoring the winning goal against the Gunners in next season's Champions League Final? ;)

I can honestly only imagine him doing it for us. :p

I won't constantly bring up that quote about Henry...... :D

Fair enough, I see your point, and you might well be right - usually it is those on the outside of the team as it were that can see the problems and solutions better than those tied up in it all.. aka me. Same with Bergkamp really.. he was an absolute master, and it was so sad to see him leave - but such a fitting testimonial, with people like van Basten and Cruyff there. Amazing. That is what I want titi to have - retiring having spent his career at Arsenal.

Speaking of Bergkamp, do you all remember this absolute stunning? Amazing..

I don't even remember that first goal  Made worse by the fact it's against United. This one too tho, can't forget it.

Anyone beating the scousers is good in my book.

That first one I think is the best goal Henry has ever scored. Yeah.. I remember that Rooney one well... haha. Ended some record for us at the time I seem to remember..? Anyway, as it seems to be me, you and Jaffa in this thread and the other one, I thought I'd mention I'm off now.. :) Ciao!

This will either prove to be a very good thing or a very bad thing. Personally, I'm on the side of cautious optimism. :)

I don't know what to make of it either. It does say a lot that Sir Adam is staying on to advise and hopefully he will be here for a while longer as he knows the club through-and-through.

I don't think it will make too much of an issue this season as all of the take over talks have been going on so long that they would have had an idea of budget weeks ago.

Maybe we could do a Derby?

They certainly seem to have the cash to back up what they're saying, which is encouraging – I don't like to boil football talk down to money but let's be honest you need it if you're going to be able to compete, especially with the parachute payments the former Premier League clubs receive.

I think us City fans are a naturally cautious bunch given the nightmare chairmen and boards we've had in our recent history, and the fact that they're described as 'property developers' does ring a few alarm bells. But I'm sure Sir Adam would have chosen wisely, even if Duffen is – if today's Hull Daily Mail is to be believed – a Spurs fan. ;)

Like I say, cautiously optimistic. Meanwhile, turning our attention back to our outgoing chairman, what exactly are the criteria for getting someone canonised? :p

We're waiting to find out whether Liverpool have decided to take on two from our Youth Academy. If they do, it's £400k in the kitty which down in League Two is an enormous amount of cash.

Might even be able to buy a goalkeeper before our pre-season friendlies start
