The Sony Playstation 4 PS4 Launch Thread

Called into Gamestop today just to pay for Super Mario 3D World for Friday (and to see if I can collect it same night as my PS4 order).

Guess what they had all the stock in and he showed me mine..... So teasing...

There it was, all put together ready to collect (it's paid off already).. PS4 Killzone mega bundle, knack, skylanders, lego marvel, assassins creed, need for speed rivals and my vertical stand.....

Had to leave the store with it behind me.

Trying to debate whether I'll bother going to the midnight launch or just go to bed and call to the store first thing friday morning. If I go to the midnight launch I won't be playing it that night anyway - so I might just save myself a wait in the cold and leave it till friday.

shipping to Austria takes at least 2 days from Germany and we don't get mail or packages on saturday here in Austria
so i'm biting my nails currently because if shipped tomorrow evening my PS4 will be sitting the weekend in the local post depot ready to deliver on monday

Thank goodness; I ordered on September 29th!

Hopefully it turns up on launch day, it's currently 'Dispatching Now'.

friday launches are really 'poor' in that regard ... just a little delay and *boom* see you monday 6pm
if it were a Thursday it would just mean the next day

amazon.de takes 2 days like clockwork to austria after the "shipment sent" e-mail so it's a nail biter currently

good post......but I am very much upset to know about watch dogs coming in 2014 not 2013

I was upset about this too...it looks like a great game!

However, if the delay means the game is better as a result I suppose I'm happy to wait until next Spring.

They had a huge event at the Sony Store here in Berlin. People camping out since early afternoon, big stage with celebrities, big ceremony when they started selling them, which was actually a few hours before midnight.

I watched all this from my couch when they had a short tv special on the event!

I am still happy with my decision to wait for awhile until they release more games and the launch titles come down in price. But damnit, the itch is still there!

Panic over - dispatched. Found out that it'd been sitting in a warehouse 4 miles away for nearly a month - great! I did an online chat with Amazon and they guaranteed it'd arrive tomorrow.

Mine's sitting in a courier van somewhere… I tried to head it off by driving to the depot this morning but it had already left!

… and it's here!

Edit: Ahh, launch-day fun… update downloaded, and currently redownloading for an unknown reason! Thankfully it's coming down quickly and it's only 323 MB.

Edit 2: My advice is to go to Settings > System Software Update rather than let it download automatically. The automatic download froze on "Preparing to install" but doing it manually worked. A quick search showed other people having the same issue, so it's probably best to go straight through into Settings and bypass the problem.

Edit 3: Not the best first experience, I'm afraid. When setting up my account it asked whether it could use my real name or just my "gamertag" (I've forgotten the PS4 name for this). I said not to show my real name, continued, and then on the home screen it has my real name.

Then I tried to set up PS+ account, it accepted my credit card, then turned around and rejected it when I actually hit the final "confirm" button. I also have either 0 or 1 trophies, depending on where I look.

It'll be interesting to hear whether anyone else has these sorts of issues.

Edit 4: Argh! Good grief, this thing is buggy! I went to play a game (Killzone) and was told that I need to install an update to use "network features"... then it froze.

Anyone remember the UK launch of the PS3 in London? The line wasn't too big so Sony offered everyone a 46" Bravia and a ride home with the machines. Wonder if they'll do anything similar for those waiting in lines.

edit: Console secured I won't receive it on release day unfortunately, but I'll pick it up on the weekend.

Smooth set up for me, probably 10 minutes from unboxing to gameplay.

Battery needs more frequent charges than the PS3.

My name is also on the home screen not sure why my game-tag is not there.

I've got so many wifi devices that already have Netflix, Amazon, VUDU and Youtube that the PS4 is for pure gaming.

No complaints so far my PS3 is still going strong after 5-6 years as it heads to donation.

Just ordered a basic one from John Lewis, i'm still not even sure if it'll stick but i got an order number so fingers crossed. Manic event. The site could barely stay alive but luckily i somehow chugged through.

By the time i went back round to try and see if i could order a Killzone bundle instead they were all gone. Both the basic and bundle models.

Ditto. Did you get any confirmation emails? They were in stock for about 5-10 minutes so hopefully the stock was a bit better than last weeks Xbox launch (no stock as of 12:00:01 ).

If I get a dispatch email tomorrow then I'll assume everything went through.

No confirmation email yet. Systems probably still recovering from that sudden onslaught. Only my account page acknowledging the order so far.

Edit: USB support seems to be really temperamental at this stage. At first I was getting a "not connected" message when my drive was formatted with HFS+. I reformatted it with FAT32/MBR which made it show up, then it lost it halfway through a copy. Despite all that, I've still only managed to get a saved game onto my drive; the option to copy doesn't show up when I choose a video.

Edit 2: Despite the post below telling me to look somewhere on AVS (which I couldn't find after two hours of searching), the US FAQ says that a future system software update is required.

Same, I was relieved when the confirmation came through, the site was all over the place last night. Is that for home delivery? Click and collect is usually a bit quicker, it usually arrives in store within a day of dispatch.

Saw this again just now and got all nostalgic. PS4 has a lot to live up to.
