I wanna say I saw something on Reddit that it was ~800GB.
That Mark Cerney digital keynote presentation said "a custom built 825GB SSD".
I assume the full PS5 will have that. We don't know if the all digital version will have that or not yet though.

Nah, they cannot break the $500 barrier.
I agree. That's not because of the 500 itself. It's because 500 equals 750 in other countries and that is getting really steep for a console. 750 is already in the "nope" category for many people.

The 499US price was rather expected and now apart from the few tech-heads who want the most powerful console, the choice will which has the better games. As it's not really affordable to get both. I would argue neither have a good lineup so far though.

we are on a Mac site..... where they sell you a 700-1200 phone every year...

Love how people go ... man a 6-7 year device for 400-500 is too much but a phone I will use for 1 year for what I can pay for a computer seems reasonable

either way preorders are sold out sadly. Sony gave people the wrong date

So what do you all think about the games costing $70US now?

Yeah "fail" on Sony.

they crashed the internet. I was able to get it on the Best Buy site. After hitting refresh like 10,000 times and picking it up at a local one that is super out the way.

As long as they don't include micro transactions who cares if it's 60 or 70. I wait a month and get it for $30 anyway :)

Seriously. I use Gamefly and rent games most of the time anyway, but the MSRP is irrelevant when 90% of the time the game is on sale within a month or two. I tried Best Buy and I could add it to cart but not check out. I refused to do pickup in store because I remember the Xbox 360/PS3/Wii/PS4/Xbox One launches where store managers took machines set aside for preorders and put them into forced bundles for people who were in line, screwing preorder customers. Someone posted a link to the Amazon preorder page that wasn't even up yet, and it sold out on that within minutes, but I got one.

Summary of the PS5 event.

Spider Man
Hogwarts Legacy
Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War
Resident Evil 8 Village
Deathloop
Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
Oddworld Soulstorm
Five Nights at Freedys Security Breach
Demons Souls
Playstation Plus collection
Price - 499US with optical Drive, 399US all digital
Date - 12th November selected countries, 19th November rest of the world

Final Fantasy 16? Was the opener of the showcase? God of War Ragnarok teaser? ;-)

I must say that the showcase delivered. I've seen loads of games that I want to play and the price is just right. That games will be more expensive at launch was to be expected. Games are getting bigger and the graphics are getting close to photo-realistic. Some of these productions require more budget than a Hollywood movie, so I can see why they need to raise the price. But I'm getting a disc version and will be enjoying discounts everywhere since I don't have a lot of games that I "really" need to play when they just get launched.

It's too much. £69 for a game is just £10 shy of the price for PS5 headsets.

In fact £70 for a game is equivalent to 8 months of GamePass which also includes EA and access to Microsoft Studio Games from day one! It's a comparison that's hard to ignore.

Although Sony has introduced PS Plus Collection they have not mentioned whether PS5 games will be added.

So it looks like confirmed launch titles are:

Sackboy
Spiderman
Demon's Souls
Destruction All Stars
Devil May Cry 5 Remaster
COD Cold War
Assassins Creed Valhalla
...Cyberpunk?

Feel free to add!

Wow, managed to get one from best buy and later changed it from store pickup to home delivery. There was a caveat saying that shipping could be delayed because of covid-19, but right now it's showing I should get it on November 12th.

Though now I'm conteplating if I should resale it when it comes, looks like it will be hard to get.

Of course that means going for the disc based version because digital-only PS store prices can remain very high for much longer.

I wonder if mass-adoption of digital-only consoles were to take off this generation what would that mean for the prices of discs though - both retail and in the used market. Suddenly you will have a lot smaller audience for both of these.

PS Plus collection is Sony's way to offer PS5 owners some value for their subscription. It will be quite a while before they can offer free monthly PS5 games, and I think this is a good alternative. It will be especially nice for people who did not own a PS4.

My guess is they will keep offering free monthly games for PS4 users for a few years, while adding the odd game to the Plus Collection for PS5.

Gaming is already digital. PC games have for the most part been digital-only for year with people accustomed to buying games from digital storefronts by EA, Steam etc.

For Sony and MS the disc versions are a necessary evil.......for now. However console gaming is already "digital". The CD is borderline just a licence or CD-key that unlocks your ability to download the latest version of a game online and its patches.

By 2022-2023, Sony and MS will have done their power to sub-due the demand for used games while edging people towards the discless versions.

Anything that's free is a value add. Hopefully the games will at least be "enhanced" for PS5. I'm surprised that they didn't announce a launch date for the new Gran Turismo.

Definitely scalp it! Prepare your eBay listing in advance, so it ends on the delivery date.

....

And there lies the difference. Multiple stores. When Sony lets other retailers sell games digitally, I'll jump ship, but I'm not limiting myself to one store and their prices. I want to enjoy different sales and actions from multiple stores. The price-difference for the disc version will make able to buy games cheaper, so I see it as an investment.

My strategy will be to buy games that I will play for a long time digitally e.g. Gran Turismo, GTA and Flight Simulator.

High risk games that I could be bored of after completion will be bought on disc.

So which of the games they have showed so far truly looks like "next gen"? Which trailer made you think "Wow, this would not be possible on PS4"?

Demon's Souls looks great, but partly because I love Souls games. Does it really do anything that a PS4 is not capable of?

Spiderman already looked great on PS4. Sure, Spidey now looks really shiny to show off ray tracing, but other than that...?

The only game that wowed me in that regard was Hogwarts Legacy. It just had a sense of scale and detail that I haven't seen before.

I went to bed in anger after refreshing Target and Best Buy for hours for the pre-order.
Then as I'm sitting in bed around 11:40 est, I decide to check Amazon because I hate myself.
Turns out they had just gone live and I snagged one.

I fully intend to keep it, but if prices approach 2-3 grand like they did with the PS3 that may be enough to get me to let go of it till I can find another one.

Probably all the EA Sports games. I really hope CyberPunk PS5 is a launch title. Did they say if we'll be able to transfer our PS4 save to PS5?

Cyberpunk PS5 patch will be released in 2021, so not a real launch title since it's PS4. Not confirmed but would be really ridiculous if you couldn't transfer...
