PS5 teardown.
Interesting, it’s a very clean and sparse design. It’s weird just how little ‘stuff’ there is inside this thing. The circuit board is mostly empty space, and most of the internal volume is heat sink and fan. One massive chip, a big power supply, and a whole lot of cooling. It’s certainly very different from looking at teardowns of Apple’s super dense designs, and quite a departure from previous consoles too.

Man, can’t wait for custom side panels. I really love how easily they can be removed!

Would be awesome if collector editions of games come with side panels. No need to buy a whole custom console like for example the Last of Us 2 PS4 Pro. Just ship panels and a custom Dual Sense and we’d get the whole experience. I really liked the Death Stranding and LoU2 custom PS4’s but no way I’m buying an extra console just for the looks... Buying the game with some bad ass panels to pimp my PS5, well that’s something else!

Overall it seems like good news about using your old save game files.

Seems like if you originally had the PS4 game on a disc, you are going to need the PS5 Disc system to transfer your save over. Just a heads up for anyone who may have a large number of PS4 games on disc and were looking to buy the all-digital PS5 system.

I understand why they went bigger (cooling and noise), but it's it's enormous size and questionable design put me off.
Also wish they'd offer a smaller non 4K version too, like the Xbox S.

I was hoping he'd go to the bottom right and click on customize...
so I could see what things I can switch off completely ;)
also finally the store is integrated, after many years lol

any word on if the controller will be available in different colors?

Only thing I care about concerning the UI: is it still fast when pausing a game and according to the video it sure is.

I just decided that this will be the first time EVER that I will not buy a second controller for my console. The times where I play local multiplayer together with someone on the couch are simply long gone. It's mostly single player for me, and what little multiplayer I do, is all online.

Lol, I just did that yesterday. I realized that my son and I play Tower Fall and Geometry Wars 4 enough to warrant pulling those games over the the PS5 and playing them there.

I'm getting a second one when there are some cool colors out there or when there's a nice deal on the normal one. Love having a second one for when the first one is charging and since we're in for several years with this generation, I can imagine the original one will need replacing anyhow at some moment.

Looks like this company will sell different color replacement covers for the PS5. I'll probably order the black to make the PS5 match everything in my entertainment center.

shameless plug for my favorite Decal place:

not quite as elegant as a replacement cover but a lot more choices...

I skinned nearly everything with decals from them...

new consoles will probably soon follow.

I also feel like fewer and fewer games support split screen multiplayer.

Funny thing is, back in the days with an N64 for example, we'd play 4-player split screen on television screens that were ridiculously small and low res. Now we have 65" 4K screens and stuff, yet no more split screen games, where these big high res tv's are better suited than anything we've had before.

There are a handful of games that support same-screen multiplayer. I normally don't like Rayman games but I though Rayman Legends was wonderful. Really enjoyed Overcooked 2 also.
