I’d love to see collector’s editions of games with special plates. Would definitely buy God of War plates :)
Probably will not happen for a while unless they are Sony approved as Sony are sending cease and desist letters to the current 3rd party manufacturers of the PS5 plates.

Sony are waisting their time. In 6 weeks Aliexpress and eBay will be flooded with faceplates.😆
They are just waiting to get sued by Sony.

Sony can't sue the whole of China or Vietnam.

The faceplate are made out of plastic and have no mechanical parts and are basically dead easy to copy. Chinese factories have probably already made moulds by getting their hands on a PS5 already.

Aliexpress even has fake Louis Vuitton bags. The website is unstoppable.

Instead of dragging their heels and wasting money on lawyers, Sony should just release different faceplats now as the demand is very big and many owners won't mind paying OEM prices.

I don't think they're concerned about counterfeit items showing up on aliexpress or dhgate. They just intend to stop people from making a legitimate business out of it.

I think it's a safe assumption to say OEM plates are on the way.

100% agree.

Using Sonys trade marks and creating a webshop without a license is a step too far compared with selling unbranded "Gaming faceplates" on aliexpress.

Sony is stopping one particular faceplate maker due to trade mark infringement not because they're making faceplate. This particular maker was calling theirs "PlateStation5" and Sony is asking them to change their product name.

Anyone know more information?:
Not planning on getting ps5 on launch, but brother is waiting out till next batch comes out (hopefully late Nov/early Dec); will he still be able to receive the PS+ collection?

I read most articles, and came to a conclusion that (quite possibly) if one already owned a ps+ subscription during ps4 era and upgrading to ps5; they’ll be able to get the collection.
Or will it be an exclusive to launch week?

According to IGN Italy, Sony has confirmed that the PS5 does not natively support 1440p.

Have to choose either 1080p/120 or 4k/60. This is dissapointing as 1440p/120 is a sweet spot between frame rate and visuals.

Although the majority of TVs are 4k, anyone who will play FPS games with a mouse and keyboerd, will likely do so on a 1440 monitor.

The PS4 Pro didn't support 1440P either from what I read (I am coming to the PS5 from an OG PS4). I guess Sony thinks it isn't worth the effort to support (what usually is) a monitor resolution.

When the PS4 launched gaming was different in the sense that monitor resolution were not relevant.

Today, with fortnite, apex legends, twitch, in game trophies/badges, growing keyboard/mouse support and crossplatform multiplayer with PC, monitors make sense for consoles.

One theory why the PS5 doesn't support 1440/120 could be because it can't meet that performance target. The Series X has a more powerful GPU and CPU which is why it can target that native resolution and frame rate.

It's like comparing a 3080 to a 3090. Both are capable of the same visual graphics but the latter is push higher frame rate at any given resolution.

Even the Series S can only consistently achieve 120fps at 1080p.

In 2-3 years the PS5/Series X Pro will likely target 4k/120 which is even a tall order som some current gen graphic cards.

What I am really excited to see are the PS5 load speeds. It has a theoretical SSD speed that it double of the SSD in the series X.

Hopefully this will translate to a 50-70% real world advantage in loading speeds.

Lack of 1440p is a real bummer. My Samsung TV supports 1440p at 120fps and I'd much rather play at that than 4k/60. 1440 is the best resolution for gaming as far as I'm concerned and will continue to be until consoles and reasonably priced PCs can consistently do 4k/120.

I seriously doubt it would be exclusive to launch week. Demand far outstrips supply at popular console launches.

Even 4k TVs will be affected by the lack of native 1440p support.

1440p/120 upscaled to 4k looks sharper than 1080p/60 upscaled to 4k.

Lastest update: PS5 doesn't have quick resume.

It's a big surprise given how close its hardware is to the Xbox Series. I wonder if Sony will offer the feature as a software update.

It's less about being able to shuffle switch between 3-5 games but more about being able to return to the last known state of a game without having to load the game, select a character/mission, navigate the menu and wait for a level to load.

One thing that is growing massively on me regarding the PS5 is the design. Dave Lee's spiderman themed PS5 looks stunning. Owners will have so much fun custom is nf the look of their PS5 to blend into their living room.

Source? Are you talking about when the console is put to sleep or powered off?

Edit: Found it. It says it doesn't support resume when switching games. It doesn't say it we can't resume the same game. That's how things are today. It would be nice to resume between different games but I can live without that.

That's correct.

Let's say you played a time trial in a racing game yesterday, play a bit of spiderman today but after 20 want to play the racing game again. The game will boot up and you will have to navigate your way to where you left off.

Quick resume is like reopening a netflix app on a smart TV and pressing play for an episode where you left off.

The Series S has quick resume and it has less storage than the PS5.

In the next few weeks we will find out whether Sony is able to add the feature through a software update.
I mean I get how it would be nice, we will see if Sony adds it later (and at what cost to storage).

Where were you seeing that the PS5 only does 120hz at 1080p?

120fps is probably only possible at 1080p because the console cannot hit 120fps consistently at 1440p.

Spiderman for example, runs at 30fps on the PS5. 60fps is available but with ray tracing switched off.

The Series X for example, can is capable of 2k/120fps in some games. It simply has more performance head room than a PS5 but cost considerably more than a discless PS5.

That article talks about the lack of native 1440p output way more than games not being able to output 120hz. That seems like 2 different issues.

Devil May Cry runs at 1080/120 fps and so will NFS Hot Pursuit and Starwars Quadron.

Granted, these are current gen games. Hopefully next gen games will be more efficient at maximising the hardware of the PS5 and Series.

None of the next gen consoles will be capable of 120 at 4k in any reasonably demanding game.

Brings tears to my eyes!

"All told then, job done: PlayStation 5 is larger than Xbox Series X, but it is also cooler. The key point is that the days of jet engine acoustics emanating from your Sony console are a thing of the past."

Just got an email that the retailer won’t have enough stock to ship all preorders on launch day. I kind of expected as much... Hopefully I will get mine before Christmas!

That made me go check my Amazon order and I'm thrilled that mine is shipping soon. ps5order.png
