what OLED do you have even older LGs have Apple TV already on them. You don't need the PS5.
Ah I'm using a Panasonic Oled tv. I already have a 4k apple tv standalone by itself anyway. But i saw the apple tv app on the ps5 and gave it a try.

Ok after further testing, it will switch to 4k resolution after a while. Guess it takes time to stream it at 4k. Starts off blurry at first

The Apple TV app on my Lg Oled. Is fine. Only issue is you can just use appletv app, listen to music or watch movies you own/rent. It doesn’t include abc, nbc, ESPN+, hbomax apps but you can download them to your tv as well.

it’s nice to have the standalone Apple TV box just for easy passwords

I just sold Demon's Souls.

Got past the first big boss, then was just spinning my wheels. Beautiful graphics, great load times, redeeming gameplay when you get the hang of it, but too much frustration.

May pick up Returnal at the end of this week, not sure. Looks intriguing. Village may be of interest too... though I never really came to terms with first person RE like on 7, back in the PS4 days a few years ago.

Been playing MK11 Ultimate, almost like a different game compared to the Switch version graphically + load time wise. As expected but it really is incredibly beautiful on PS5, and I love the almost cartridge like load times between rounds. Feels like a true experience.

Picked up Hitman 3 a few weeks ago, still haven't cracked it open. But plan to. Otherwise all that's left on my plate for now is Immortal Fenyx Rising which I've played only a bit but seems cool

Beat DMC5 DE, Spiderman MM and Remastered, and Sackboy (which I sold since I think it'll be a free PS+ game down the road, or dirt cheap, and no intention of replaying it any time soon but great platformer imo)

What do you fine folk think about RC: Rift Apart?
I've always been a fan of the R&C series. It's straight-forward, lighthearted, and great for casual gaming. They all follow the same basic formula of get weapons that blow stuff up and upgrade them as you progress through worlds. Rift Apart looks stunning and I'll be curious to see the story with two playable characters (excluding Clank).

become a huge Insomniac Games fan

Love MM and Spiderman. I have the original but never really gave it a try even though I love platformers

now that its got a 60fps 4k bump, I'll have to try it out before Rift Apart comes through

Im targeting it as my next PS5 purchase, if I can get through some backlog / RE8

I know its blasphemy and I appreciate Spyro, but never was a huge fan of that. Still that's OG Insomniac Games

Is it best to assume that most of the PS4 -> PS5 updates will be paid? Nearly every game that I have on my XSX that has been updated to next gen was a free update. In fact, I think the only paid update to date on the XSX was Control - but only if you didn't own a specific version of the game.

I just picked up a PS5 for games like Horizon, TLoU, Days Gone, etc, and I'm having a bit of a hard time figuring out what Sony's strategy is here when it comes to updates. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I'd like to pick up Ghosts of Tsushima when it goes on sale during Days of Play - but not if I'm going to have to buy the game all over again if they were to release a PS5 version.

I think most are free actually
CoD Tony hawk come to mind as the ones that are paid but

there are some cases where you need the right version like Control you need Ultimate. Ff7 has to be the physical version I believe or not the free ps+ one

and some that have no path like Judgment you have to re buy.

a lot still haven’t dropped

probably fudging some stuff but I think lots / most are free

The FF series confuses the hell out of me.

There's the FFVII Remake - Of which I don't own, nor did I get in in time to get it for free, so that would be a digital purchase - assume that update would be free. BUT, there's also FFVII INTERgrade or whatever it's called which is what? FFVII Remake + some extra mission? And that whole thing is going to be native PS5 from the get go?

Edit: should note I bought the digital only ps5.

I think you got that all right. and the 'intergrade' version is PS5 timed exclusive.

Square Enix likes to make you confused while you simultaneously throw money at them.

I dunno though, I don't really care. I had FF7 last year but sold it while it was still a popular high ticket game and my backlog was massive (remains massive), and glad to have gotten the PS+ version free recently. I will pick it back up sometime eventually.

See: FFXIV. A friend asked me to start playing that with him last night. What a mess that is.

I agree with you - Owning the PS for the first time in years, there are plenty for me to choose from. And the PS+ games included with the PS5 are pretty great. I've probably got some 400 hours of games for (essentially) the price of 1.

Thought I'd buy one today - 200 plus scalping tax here in the UK - I didn't realise that was the deal at the mo and obviously I could buy the new xbox today no issue...

FF7R (PS4): already released.
FF7R (PS5): will release next week. Free upgrade when you have a paid version of FF7R (so not for the free PS+ FF7R PS4 version)
FF7R Intergrade: will release next week: the base game + DLC (PS5)
DLC will be available for purchase when you have FF7R.

TBA: FF7R Episode 2 (rumor has it: summer 2022)

Oh nice - I didn't realize they were releasing a PS5 update for the original FFVII Remake. I did finally realize that once you have the PS5 version on your machine you can delete the PS4 version. When I updated FFXIV, I was left with both copies on my system. I was a little surprised the other one wasn't removed automatically.

Little edit: the DLC called InterMISSION is only for PS5.

Some other updates:
God of War Ragnarok is delayed into 2022.
Horizon Forbidden West is on track for the holidays.

I would say I'm really bummed about all these exclusives becoming non exclusive, but I dont care honestly and I'm not.

My backlog is massive. Rift Apart is around the bend. Got a handful of games I bought just waiting for the ps5 patch before getting into them, again its no great feat since my backlog is massive anyways. And Switch steals lots of my time.

And just having graphical and performance exclusivity is enough for me personally. I'd prefer some exclusives eventually but I dont have a gaming PC so PS5 has been serving me REALLY well so far since launch. I don't see this system failing or MS pulling their weight to come up with exclusives after letting Xbox One and all subsequent variants rot as just a PC-like console without hardly any exclusives in sight.

I don't think I've been this pre-occupied with a system this early on in release with great backwards compatibility but also re-releases of games I glossed over in the past

I’m not sure if anybody else heard this or not, but on a podcast, apparently Sony made the statement that PS5 is not in shortage due to just ‘bots or overall just popularity’, but they can’t manufacture them fast enough because of a specific metal that is in short demand that they need for the CPU data card. I guess the logic is, if they were able to produce a larger amount of the console, then we would have more adequate stock, which we wouldn’t have the shortage due to the specific metal that they need.

Just read that the Volvo and Audi factories in Brussels have shut down due to chip-shortage, so can't imagine Sony isn't bother by that problem. On top of the metal-problem of course, one doesn't exclude the other.

On a side note:

General Motors pushed out my new work vehicle (2022 Chevy Tahoe) being manufactured from July now until October for the same reason. Absolutely Ludacris what’s happening in the gaming sector and automotive world.

Is Hi-Fi affected too by any chance? I was shopping around the last few days and noticed lots of devices (receivers, network players, etc) were out of stock. Then I went to the local high street store and the shelves were looking pretty barren too.

Absolutely affected! It’s pretty crazy.

Picked up a PS5 a few weeks back and been playing R&C: Rifts apart, really really enjoying the game. It's been a long time since I've had this much fun playing a game. Will be sad when it ends, then need to do decide on the next game to play until Diablo 2 Resurrected and BF 2042 are released.

I was hoping that there would be a deal on that game for Amazon Prime Day!
