This is a scandal. Twice the money?Repurchase as a digital download...
How can I play physical games on my handheld? I don't have any virtual games (yet).
Unless they allow game streaming from home console, yeah. This is a scandal. Twice the money?
Sony has a history of doing this. Play Horizon forbidden west on your PS5, but now you want to play it on your PC - you have to buy it again. This is a scandal. Twice the money?
What does the European Union say about this? Are there no clear rules?
Maybe not the best analogy given that a lot of Blu-rays come with a "Movies Anywhere" or similar code that you can enter. If you buy a film on Blueray do you also expect to get the same film for free on digital streaming services because you own it on disk?
I've got kids and not a lot of time and was in the situation you describe. Got me a PS Portal and man, is that worth it's money. Works like a charm and enables me to play games without needing the tv. It's an underestimated device that is perfect for all the dads (and moms) out thereIf I had a handheld I would game even more often than what’s I do now e.g casually and on the whim without having to formally sit on the couch in front of the tv.
There are also lots of fun looking indie games that can be played at 10-20min burst and don’t need a big screen experience. Finally my kids are sometimes using the tv, so a handheld would be excellent.
Is the wifi connectivity reliable and is latency not that noticable?I've got kids and not a lot of time and was in the situation you describe. Got me a PS Portal and man, is that worth it's money. If the handheld (which I’m personally not interested in) is expected to come with 24 or 36GB of VRAM, I guess the desktop PS6 will come with at least that amount of VRAM right? Plus ideally some extra 8GB of slower, cheaper RAM for the operating system. This is great. I'm more excited about a PS5 handheld than a PS6 TV console:

Enjoy your PS5 Pro. It’s a great console. PS6 or even the next gen Xbox might not be worth hype for several reasons:If the handheld (which I’m personally not interested in) is expected to come with 24 or 36GB of VRAM, I guess the desktop PS6 will come with at least that amount of VRAM right? Damn, it looks like right when I took the plunge of getting a PS5 Pro, the PS6 is already getting leaked. It’s not expected until late 2027 right? I’ll enjoy this PS5 Pro for two years playing everything I have in the queue, (mostly Remakes and late PS4 titles, but also current gen titles such as AC Shadows, Stellar Blade or FFXVI) and I’ll try to sell it before PS6 is being released.
On the other hand, seeing how game consoles keep rising in price… I’m not sure if it will be a good idea unless I sell it for a good price, because PS6 is likely getting a price tag similar to the PS5 Pro… but the generational leap will be worth it, I think. ZEN 6 cores plus RDNA5 plus 24/36GB of GDDR7 VRAM plus 3 to 5x the hardware Ray Tracing capability … with a slightly reduced power consumption. It sounds too good to be true.
I can't recommend it for people who want to play online shooters, where every frame and nanosecond counts, but I can for single player games. I don't really notice any latency and it feels like the game is running on the portal instead of streaming. For example: I'm currently replaying Ghost of Tsushima and timing a perfect parry is no problem at all on the portal. Is the wifi connectivity reliable and is latency not that noticable?
I keep forgetting about this. Does the cloud streaming with Premium also work on an iPad with the Remote app?I can't recommend it for people who want to play online shooters, where every frame and nanosecond counts, but I can for single player games. I even prefer to play some games on the portal instead of my tv.
I've also tested it with a 5G hotspot on my phone and worked like a charm. And with the 2.0 software you can stream games from the cloud if you have a PS+ Premium subscription.
Yeah, I agree with you that this is a great console and I plan to enjoy it as long as I can. Also I’m aware of the inflation, tariffs and all the economical situation that has made them go higher in price instead of becoming more affordable.Enjoy your PS5 Pro. It’s a great console. PS6 or even the next gen Xbox might not be worth hype for several reasons:
Price. Inflation is bad. They will not be cheap. Especially because Sony and Xbox haven’t been able to drop prices of existing consoles.
Developers. Studios optimise for the lowest common denominator. Hence why some games barely look better on flagship hardware. Either consoles you also have to wait for developers to release next gen patches.
Diminishing returns. I have a powerful gaming pc and series x. Many games look better but in some cases I wouldn’t say it’s worth spending 3 times the price. Furthermore many remastered titles either ray tracing and bunch of stuff are not good. They require very powerful hardware, look visually better but don’t justify a 30-50% drop in frame rate.
However. Need version of PSSR and ai cores will be a big benefit. On PC I regularly use DLSS for demanding titles and it’s magical.
I’ll second that, it’s my favorite of remakes that I’ve finished (still need to get through RE4).By the way, currently playing RE2 Remake and it’s really awesome in so many respects…
RE4 Remake is amazing. They really knocked it out the park with 2 and 4.I’ll second that, it’s my favorite of remakes that I’ve finished (still need to get through RE4).
At least the ps6 will be able to run games at 4k/120fps. This was the marketing pledge for the ps5 and series x. Unfortunately it wasn’t true as they can barely run eye candy titles at 60fps without dialing down resolution and eye candy significantly. PSSR will be a huge help for the next console. It looks good on the ps5 pro and will have further improved for the ps6.Yeah, I agree with you that this is a great console and I plan to enjoy it as long as I can. Also I’m aware of the inflation, tariffs and all the economical situation that has made them go higher in price instead of becoming more affordable.
Now, on top of that, at least in Europe, the next model revision of the Digital PS5 is expected to come again with just 825GB of storage instead of the 1TB currently in use, to not raise the price of that model even further from 500€.
So I’m aware that in the current economic context, this PS5 Pro that I bought at a cheap price may even go beyond the 800€ that currently costs here in Europe.
However, I have to admit I’m actually hyped by PS6. I guess it won’t be priced higher to the PS5 Pro, so that will leave me room to sell-and-purchase if I’m quick enough. On the drawbacks side though, it will probably be a first batch console, and sometimes there are production flaws, such as the issue with some early gen PS5 that were used vertically and the Liquid Metal thermal conductor settled in the bottom half of the SoC. But we have three years’ warranty in my country so that shouldn’t worry me too much.
Why I’d like to eventually make the jump to PS6? I have usually had consoles for many years, getting the most of them, such as with PSX, PS2 or PS3. My PS4 Pro was a short lived gen, as I had to sell it due to the extreme noise of it.
Now with the PS5 Pro I see myself on another short lived generation, because in 2 years, maybe 3 at maximum, PS6 will be launching. And I’d like to enjoy the sensation again of settling on a game console for many years.
You’re right that nowadays, some, less powerful machines, such as the Series S or even past gen consoles, are holding back the development of more advanced and demanding titles. We just have to see what happened this year to the Assassins Creed saga with the latest game, Shadows, being exclusive for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S: great jump in quality and quantity. Playing it on the Pro @4K with HDR is a visual spectacle. However, I really expect some kind of reset when PS6 launches. Not that studios will leave behind PS5, but I really hope that developers focus more on PS6, and PS4/Xbone won’t be supported at all, which will mean SSDs will be the only storage devs will have to work with to develop their games.
At the same time, experience tells me that usually the jump between a regular PlayStation and the Pro model is usually not that big. It wasn’t on PS4 vs PS4 Pro, and it isn’t on the PS5 Pro either, aside from the Ray Tracing capabilities, beefier GPU and double the storage. So, if PS6 launches with a 2TB SSD as well, with all the rumored specs, I won’t mind investing ~200€ in the jump from my current PS5 Pro to PS6.
But my biggest motivation for the PS6, is the promise of a more efficient SoC/APU. Built on the 3nm process, they are allegedly trying to keep consumption lower than PS5, which in turn would be translated into a smaller machine.
One of my biggest gripes to not get the original PS5 was the huge size and weight. It was just too much. The PS5 Pro is a bit smaller and lighter, but it’s still too big for my standards. And this summer it did noticeably heat up my room. I’m hoping the PS6 to be cooler, more efficient, and less hot. At least the PS5 Pro is not too noisy, but hopefully PS6 will be quieter.
So… yes, with the leaked specs, that great jump in CPU, machine learning, Ray Tracing, memory… I’m really hyped, not gonna lie.
However, I’m still not sure if I’ll sell my PS5 Pro right before the PS6 is announced, or will wait a bit to see how the first years of the gen develop and hopefully get a slimmer, more efficient revision of the machine.
I bought the digital Remake Trilogy, that includes RE2 Remake Deluxe Ed, RE3 Remake, and RE4 Remake Gold Ed.I’ll second that, it’s my favorite of remakes that I’ve finished (still need to get through RE4).
I’ll second that, it’s my favorite of remakes that I’ve finished (still need to get through RE4).
I just finished run A with Claire, and doing the run B with Leon. It’s so loyal to the original… really one of the bests if not the best remake I’ve ever played.RE4 Remake is amazing. They really knocked it out the park with 2 and 4.
I don't have PS+ Premium, I have the cheapest tier, so not sure.I keep forgetting about this. Does the cloud streaming with Premium also work on an iPad with the Remote app?
And the Portal is strictly streaming, right? No offline play, like on an airplane?
RIP Xbox as a console with exclusive”. Now that the flagship FH5 and FS are on PS5, there are no hardly any reasons to buy Xbox except for gamepass and play anywhere. I would not be surprise if Microsoft release Gmapeass for PS5.Holy smokes!
