Payg prices

I very much doubt we are gonna get the payg prices the new iPhone for tomorrow.

From past keynote experiences, El Jobso takes the stages and always says the starting prices will be from .... Those are always the contact prices. He never mentions the payg prices.

What happens next is we all flock to 02 website where they will magically have all contact prices with a field telling you to put in your email if you want to be updated. Then just at the bottom of the page there will be some tiny writing that says payg prices will be published in due time (This tends to be a few days before the actual release date)

It would be nice if Apple releases the iPhones officially unlocked but if they did then they would have to do the same in the States. How do u sell an officially unlocked CDMA phone to Verizon or Sprint? There are only 2 GSM providers in the States ATT and Tmobile. It just wouldn't work. If they wont do it in America they won't do it here.

I do hope I'm proven wrong.

Another question about O2 recycle - I'm about to ship my 3G off next week, and was wondering if I should "Erase all content and settings" in the settings menu before I send it off. What did everyone else do?

I just did a dfu restore to make sure everythin was wiped seemed to be enough I activated to check everythin an there was no data on the phone like contacts or anythin, I did however make sure the phone was signed out of the iTunes account on the handset itself

not technically true, we have the option to have iPhones unlocked because it's the law I think but in america they don't have such a law so thats why AT&T don't even give you an option to unlock the handset

There's no law on this at all in the UK. Ofcom used to require it from a regulatory perspective, but they dropped the requirement several years ago.

Wirelessly posted (Tomato\'s Kaiser phone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

My girlfriend has just lost her htc smartphone - it was covered by o2 insurance which she's been paying for the last 3 years (yes I know). She wants a replacement NOW and is undecided between a crackberry or iPhone 4g / 3gs. Would 02 insurance be willing to pay for a PAYG replacement?

Contact tariffs don't suit her as all she does is text, email, and facebook. Voice, games, maps, other apps or the wider internet don't interest her at all. So I'm kinda thinking a blackberry might actually suit her better than an iPhone, much as I love mine.

I'm really, really hoping that they're sold factory unlocked direct from Apple this year. I figure seeing as there's lots of carriers carrying the iPhone in the UK now, they'd consider just selling it unlocked...I hope!

Or I'd just be happy if 3 stock it :D

o2 will replace the phone like for like where possible.

I know you can't answer these but I'd like people to speculate:

When will the phone be released in the UK?

When will it be released on PAYG and how much?

Will o2 have any allowances for early upgrades?

Phone will be released on 18th June 2010.
Released on PAYG same day from all networks.
There will be no allowances for early upgrades. If you want the iPhone, either take a new contract or pay the remaining months up front.

where did you get this info?

the only thing worrying me now is price, as if there is a 64Gb i would expect the payg handset to reach around £700

How much do we think the cheapest handset will be on PAYG?

I'm currently in a 3GS contract after upgrading from 3G. Could I buy a PAYG handset and just use the sim in that and have o2 sort my insurance out?

well if the 3GS is anything to go by the 32Gb model will be at least £550, add another £100 for the 64Gb model if there is one.

Meh.

So if I sell my 3GS to Carphone Warehouse I get £240.30 trade in. So if we take 16GB 3GS as a guideline I will need around another £200.

Hmph.

It’s pure speculation on a rumour site, but I think he right :)

I’m hoping the price stays below £600
