spoke to O2 sayin I was lookin to move to them for the iPhone and they said they wont be taking pre-orders.... take it you can reserve in store?

Just a note on O2 recycle. I think there is some caveat that they take a certain percentage off for any scratches etc, which I think is why the price is a bit higher than Mazuma etc. Not 100% on that, but might be worth checking the T&C's carefully before sending it off!

It would be great if we could have it all in one post which includes how much each (CPW, CEX, O2) will pay along with any other details (e.g. CEX better offer if you buy from them etc.)

Personally I have no prior experience whatsoever with any of these guys.

Just save the webpage and you can print it later.

The price they give you is valid for 7 days. So until O2 send out the package it goes in, just find a printer during that time. Ask a neighbour? family?

If that's true then I believe it's better to get a quote just before the new prices are announced so as to get a better one don't you think?

just spoke to a guy at o2 about transferring my existing simplicity iphone tariff (one better than currently available) to a microsim card when i buy the new iphone on pay as you go. he said there is no problem with that.

I'm sure there are many people in the same situation as me - I have a two year old 16gb 3g. I'm paying £20 p/m on iphone simplicity. If I sell my iphone 3g for £200 and the new iphone is £450 on pay as you go, that means I have to effectively spend £250 on the new handset.

The alternative is to take out a new 18 month contract (potentially the phone free on £40 p/month). This is twice as much as my current tariff, so I'd be better off getting the handset at full cost, as its the equivalent of just 12 months of a £40 p/month contract in terms of overall cost!

Hope that makes sense and helps people out who are in the same situation as me!

Of course it's all speculation until we see the new prices but for the sake of comparison...

I'm paying £20 p/m on iphone simplicity. If I sell my iphone 3g for £200 and the new iphone is £450 on pay as you go, that means I have to effectively spend £250 on the new handset.

£450 + 18 x £20 = £810

The alternative is to take out a new 18 month contract (potentially the phone free on £40 p/month).

£0 + 18 x £40 = £720

You can still sell your current phone in both scenarios so the only difference then is cash flow and that you have more flexibility in renewing or switching phones etc with the PAYG option.

I still think the best way is the PAYG route.

CPW seem to offer the best trade in price at the moment of around £240.00 for a 16GB 3GS

Saying this. I may take my phone to Cash Convertors. Recently took a Nikon D40 there and they gave £150.

exactly the same position as you mate. sold my 3g and hoping to get the new iphone for 450/500, convert my simplicity sim to microsim.

Sold my O2 unlocked 32GB 3GS for £599 four weeks ago ready for this announcement! It's been a crap month without it but worth getting rid of it well ahead of today to maximise return ;)

(sold other halfs 16GB 3GS for £499 about a week after)

a better deal would of been recycling it with o2.

http://www.o2recycle.co.uk/phoneSelected.asp?phoneID=2441

16GB 3GS = £243.

Then at the checkout stage, use the code 'more4u' which gives you another 10% which would bring it up to £267.30

Nothing to stop you doing that now if you havent sent the phone away yet! :)

Thank you so much for that promo code. Just used it for my 16GB 3GS. I only need £150 to buy out of my contract, so I'll be picking up a magic trackpad if they're in stock when the phone is sold :) Thank you.

presumably unlocked? pay as you go 32gb is only £549 new!

I'm currently on contract which expired in January. I've just let it roll. I've spent some time looking at the simpilicity tarriff which sounds good and more beneficial to me, however I want to keep my mobile number but from what I gather you can port your number up from PAYG to contract but not contract back to PAYG which is pain.

The other option I'm looking at is the 12 month contract from Tesco which would make it easier to port my number accross however until we find out how much the new iphone is going to be, its difficult to know which is the better option!

Any idea how quickly O2 will advertise their prices after the annoucement going on past experience?

I still have a year left on my iPhone 3GS. Do you think it's possible to buy a payg model, maybe from America as my sister is going there in a few weeks, unlock it and use the cut down sim from my 3GS in it? Then sell the 3GS to recover the costs of the new model.

Howthe hell did you pull that off? I'd be lucky if i can flog my unlocked 3GS for £300

You cannot get a pay as you go model from the states i think and even if you could they will be locked to at&t unless you jailbreak it and use a software unlock.

In my opinion it is not worth the hassle ;)

A few questions...

I'm with o2, with a 3g 8gb with a contract that expires in september.

1) Do you think o2 will move up the contract renewal date a month or two?? I'm not too worried about paying £70 or so + the upgrade costs but then math wise i'd have to see whether it's worth getting a contract-free phone from *somewhere* else.

2) Will I be able to transfer my aps and phone data straight to the new phone if they are not sync'ed with my pc?

3) If I need to sync with my pc, what are the risks??

4) Although I want to perchase my phone from a store, are the chances of the iPhone being sold out at most o2 stores high? Is there anyway to avoid being stuck for several weeks waiting for new stock?

1) If like last year, no chance at all.

2) It's best if you have your current phone synced up to date first, it makes it a lot easier. iTunes store does keep a record of your purchases. If the apps aren't on your PC they wont sync with the new phone. You would need to download them again first. Free if you have already paid. Trouble is remembering what you bought if you dont have them on your PC.

3) No risks. Its designed to sync with your PC.

4) thats a question no one can answer yet. A way to get one without waiting is pre-order if they let you. Otherwise get in the queue early.

Damn, you're right. :( Back to square one it seems.

So I can either sell my iPhone and put the money towards paying out my contract, or just wait for my contract to be up and upgrade to the iPhone 5g next year....

My 3G was out of contract in January past so I put my existing sim on a Simplicity iPhone tariff just as 02 rejigged the prices, so for £25 I get 600 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited data and wifi hotspot access.

I have no desire to change contracts and pay more per month as this suits me perfectly. If I get the new PAYG iPhone and cut down my sim to microsim size it will work fine but will need to get some sort of adaptor to put the PAYG microsim into my old 3G and give it to the wife?

There some pictures of the new micro sim, and it looks as if the new micro sim and current mini sim come as one standard card. Then you just break of the plastic to change it from mini to mico.

I kept my number going from contract to Simplicity. Just get through to Retentions dept.

£20pm 500 mins 600 text unlimited data.

That would be fine as long as Apple don't require the customer to activate the phone and sim instore

No pre-orders would be crappy, if it'd released on the 18th I can't get the day off work, so won't be getting a launch day iPhone if that is the case! Then again, I've had experience of O2 in the past in regards to upcoming launches and they make it up as they are going along, since they don't actually know anything!

Did Apple allow you to upgrade to the 3GS in store or just new contracts? When did o2 take orders for the 3G and 3GS? Right after the WWDC? I'm getting stressed that working long days and not being near a computer till late in the afternoon will mean I won't be able to order online quick enough once it gets announced!
