I think I will wait for locked prices to come out to see if they are cheaper. If you can't pre-order with O2 does that mean on 24th June I can then order and get the phone delivered a few days later.

same here - toying with idea of buying the 16gb unlocked black but thinking i may just wait to see white...but that may be a while given even apple aren't selling them yet...so when will o2 even have white available?>

Certainly not before Apple. Apple make the damn things and if they don't have white available no one will.

The Apple Store site appears to have died. I guess the best idea is to go away for a while, then place an order later once the server rooms have been cleared of the lifeless bodies of the techs killed in Steve's rage-fuelled katana spree. 😀

If people are getting 28th June delivery now that must mean the pre orders are already sold out, shocking as shop only been open an hour

No it's because he has the bumper in his basket as well, which isn't available until after the 24th...

i've already ordered a sim cutter from cutmysim.com, so will cut my existing o2 simplicity sim... £20pm 600 mins, 1200 texts, unlimited data, free mms (well.. 1 mms = 4 sms from allowance).. can't go wrong with that!

I have done exactly the same! I hope the cutter gets delivered before next Thursday!

Postponed to when? will they still be taking pre orders sometime today?

The guy didn't know 🙁
Personally I think it could be anytime today as now apple have released their prices, but who knows!
All I know is I'm getting out of bed and going to revise!!

Just orange, and they confirmed that they're not taking pre orders yet and that they've been postponed but they don't know why!

I posted this at about 8am. Networks have removed the option for pre-orders and we will just have to wait until the 24th and join the rat race! There's a supply issue (I was told) that's causing problems with pre-orders. That and I'm sure they've still not worked out pricing... 🙄

Who's saying they've got that delivery date? What else had they ordered? Where did they want it sent?

I don't get how Apple didn't foresee a mad rush in traffic on their websites. They know the hype that surrounds the iPhone every year but they somehow have managed to make pre-ordering a huge hassle.

for the apple store reservations.

I dont need my iphone to be unlocked, im happy for it to be locked to o2 as thats all im going to use.

is it cheaper to choose a PAYG one rather than the sim free one?

In my experience sim free is usually more expensive, but is this the case for iphone?

I just reserved a 32GB PAYG for store pickup.

The web site said that PAYG is only available for O2 or Orange and there was nowhere to specify which so I wonder whether I tell them in the store on 24th and then get either an Orange or an O2 SIM pack. I definitely want to go with the Orange/Dolphin plan because, as long as it doesn't change, that gets me 250MB a month of data and 750MB a month of WiFi bundled with the phone. I also want to PAC my existing number across so I wonder when that happens.

I worry a bit that this in-store reservation is too easy. I hope too many people don't reserve as a backstop and are then too selfish to cancel the reservation if they decide to get their phone via a network. I will definitely call Apple as soon as I can to cancel my reservation if things change and I have one pre-ordered elsewhere.

Do you think Apple will let the networks offer to unlock iPhone 4, if they themselves are selling the handset unlocked?

If they do let the networks unlock the PAYG handsets then Apple will make sure that the handset price + the unlock fee = the sim free cost. They are not going to let the networks undercut them.

They don't really have a say cuz of EU compettion laws... they can't dictate what price the networks sell the phone at... but they won't really care cuz if you buy the phone from the network or from apple... all the phones are bought from apple at some point (I mean that if you buy it from the network at 450, for example, the network still ahd to buy the handset from apple... so they get their money)

I'll wait for the dust to settle.
It's not absolutely imperative that I need an expensive
mobile/mini computer anytime soon and there's no big deal
about getting one at 8am on the 24th June.

Nah, he's probably clubbing them to death with a bondi blue iMac.

Ok, so I've reserved a 32gb for pickup, no prob.

I can still upgrade in the store or do sim free.

But this whole VAT increase shaft is worrying me now. No way over £600!

So, I've pre-ordered a 16gb just in case, I've checked the T & C's and it states

"4.2 VAT is payable by you at the applicable rate as indicated on your Invoice. "

and

"You may cancel your Order at any time prior to delivery of the Product ordered by calling us on 0845 600 1683 and quoting your Web Order Number. "

So, I think I'm covered either way! 😀

Common sense would point to you being right... BUT:

1. the reservation doesn't show prices for either sim free or PAYGo options.

2. You can change your mind when you get to the Apple store.

Can I ask why people are cutting their sims? O2 have already said that existing customers can get a new micro sim for nothing, in fact they should be posting them out to people that registered an interest in the new iPhone. Either that or just go into an O2 shop and they will give you one.
