Not sure what the point is you're making?

O2 etc sell to us including VAT, which they then pass on to HMRC. If they sell you a phone at £117.50 ( for ease of numbers ) pre order at the moment they're looking at keeping £100. If the VAT goes up to 22% as an example they should charge us £122, but they haven't. They still have to give HMRC £22, so they have only made £95.50. That's £4.50 less profit for every phone sold.

Or they have to take pre-orders, then at the last minute add extra on, which they'd have to get permission for from each and every one of the people who ordered. Administration nightmare.

Pete

No, the price will always be £100
It doesn't matter if the vat increases to a company, only the customer pays more tax

I had a window pop up asking if I wanted Pay As You Go (O2 and Orange only) or Pay Monthly, or SIM Free.

Is the £599 the SIM Free price?

And I have nothing in the order page :-(

When I placed my pre order, it said iPhone 4 32Gb from £599. so assuming the PAYG price will be cheaper than the SIM free price, I took it as the PAYG price as £599, and the SIM free price would be higher.

I've pre ordered one of each though, just to be sure.

Will I even get to preorder one anytime soon?
I mean the 16gb preordering wasnt working at all!!
Seems to me Apple wanted people to buy the 32GB model, hence why all 32GB orders went throught, totally unfair...
Apple, get your damn act together, get the site back up, if you want my money, I wanna preorder one for delivery on launch...
Hurry the F up and sort the store out, cant believe they had all this time to get the site running properly, and all of a sudden 16GB preordering wouldnt work...

I Put this together:
Just a rough guess I used when I bout my 3G, as in best option, either buy the phone from apple and get a sim-only pack or go with say, Vodaphone in this case, and get it on contract.

Just reserved it to collect from Apple @ Meadowhall. Can't wait.

BTW it wouldn't work on Google Chrome so I went onto apple.com/uk/iphone using Internet Explorer and it worked fine. 🙂

Ordered and confirmation email received.
Now just have to choose a provider to go with. Thinking vodafone at the moment. What are peoples experiences of them? Good...bad...?

Cheers.

How did you do that? I ordered and it is getting shipped to my house in sheff i didn't see an option to pick up in store

no the online pre-orders are sim free if you get a payg or contract phone they will most likely be locked

I had no option to select p&g or contract for any network, page for me said we are selling iPhones simfree so you can use which ever network you Want and swap whenever you want. Hit pre-order, page came up to select accessories. Then went straight to apple login and payment and address details then order confirmation.

Yes but stores in the UK display prices inc. VAT. Not before VAT.

If O2 advertise the phone at £100, that's £100 inc. VAT. If VAT then goes up, it's £100 including an increased VAT....O2 lose money.

You've pre-ordered and paid up. We've just reserved and will pay in store. Pre-orders are delivered to addresses, not stores, Reservations are store pick-up only.

Add 12 months of £15/m onto that and it comes out to the same or cheaper than what someone would spend on a £35+/m contract with subsidised phone over 18 or 24 months.

But you should add 18 or 24 months of 15/month not 12... even if you're on a 12 month contract you're not going to just ditch the phone after 12 months, you'll carry on rolling, right?
