I had no option to select p&g or contract for any network, page for me said we are selling iPhones simfree so you can use which ever network you Want and swap whenever you want. Hit pre-order, page came up to select accessories. Then went straight to apple login and payment and address details then order confirmation.

I never got asked for payment

Yes but stores in the UK display prices inc. VAT. Not before VAT.

If O2 advertise the phone at £100, that's £100 inc. VAT. If VAT then goes up, it's £100 including an increased VAT....O2 lose money.

It does worry me that people don't understand how VAT works.

No, the price will always be £100
It doesn't matter if the vat increases to a company, only the customer pays more tax

The poster is correct... if VAT is 22% then the phone would go up to £122 in his example.

Just like when VAT dropped to 15% so did the prices of all UK products... the company pays less VAT but still keeps its profit margin.

Therefor 117.50 gives £100 profit and £117.5 tax then in turn 22% VAT would mean 122 giving £100 profit and £22 VAT

Don't people realise it will be months before the VAT could go up!!!! It would take a great deal of time for all companies in the UK to put up their prices 🙄

I'll see you there them 😉

They gave out free water and coffee to people in the line!

I got free muffins, water and some nice eye candy, 4 to be precise, at the 3G O2 launch in welwyng garden city, shame the server crashed within 5 mins of opening the store.

Pre ordered mine for store pick up, 18gb black. For UPGRADE, wasnt sure if this was correct so called the apple store and they confirmed i could select an upgrade tariff on the day. And obviously the phone price would depend on the tariff i take. However they have no idea on pricing until o2 (or orange) release their prices.

Don't worry yourself, i understand perfectly.
Realise now we are talking about a pre-order price that could be subject to change due to vat before the phone is launched.
I was simply stating O2 would not make anymore money from the increase in vat.

Ok. Here's screenshots of the process I went through.

Orange
We have leaked contract pricing including handset prices. We also have information on the expected PAYG cost, but nothing confirmed. It now also seems that Orange won't be offering a preorder tomorrow although nothing was officially announced to customers either way.
What was the expected PAYG costs? can't seem to find any indictation :/

But you should add 18 or 24 months of 15/month not 12... even if you're on a 12 month contract you're not going to just ditch the phone after 12 months, you'll carry on rolling, right?

Did those sums too, I was just simplifying. So if I add 6 months of Simplicity 20 onto the £599+(£15x12) it's £899.

18 months of £35 is £630 so the subsidised 32GB handset would need to be £269 or less to save money over 18 months. Over 18 months it won't be less than that, I'd wager. I won't touch a 24 month contract so that's a moot issue for me. I'd rather pay the money upfront then have tighter outgoings over the next year or so.

I just wanted to point out the daftness of saying that £599 is silly money to spend on a phone. We'll all spend similarly silly amounts of money by the end of the contracts.

I never got asked for payment

Sorry I was confused there for a moment, you reserved right? You will have been asked which network because the networks will be ready for release day. I pre ordered so it is simfree. I will shut up now, no idea if you can sim free for reservations.

To clarify, when you pre-order on line (and pay now) here's what you're getting

"Your new iPhone. Direct from Apple and ready to use.

When you purchase your iPhone from the Apple Online Store, you’ll get it SIM-free. So you can sign up for service with the carrier of your choice and change your carrier at any time. Questions? Call our iPhone experts at 0800 048 0408.
Reduced pricing is also available.

iPhone may also be available at a reduced initial price with a contract directly from your wireless carrier."

When you reserve on line, you can go in store and pay depending on what plan you go with.

Store is back up. I was able to pre-order for delivery a 16GB iPhone 4. It all went through really fast, so they seem to have fixed it.
