anything deemed as restricting competition (thus keeping prices from being pushed down) is frowned against in regards to competition law. It may not be illegal but it is a borderline competition law infringency.

You can't stop o2 and orange releasing pricing just to preserve the sales through apple.

Neither o2 or orange have stock till the 24th with no reordering they can leave pricing as long as they want. Apple has nothing to do with that!

indeed, but i was commenting on the fact that someone said apple asked orange and o2 to not release pricing to preserve full price sales through apple direct. which is illegal

When I log into Twitter and attempt to check the settings for mobile I get this:

"Unfortunately you can't receive tweets on this phone. (Your carrier doesn't yet support it.)"

My carrier is the same as yours. O2 (PAYG).

mmm...i'm on a contract so maybe this won't work for payg. try dropping the zero when you enter ur mobile no. and put +44 on the front...that's how i've got it but...maybe that will help.

I tried but it didn't work for me 🙁 I'm pretty sure I did it right as well. Can anyone confirm they got their 3% cashback?

Cash back does not always track immediately. Usually with Apple it's fairly quick though, a few hours normally, mine has not tracked yet though.

I went through Quidco when I bought my iPad which tracked and I had around £16 cash back from it, then it changed to £0 a few weeks later and I noticed on the Apple Quidco page it said they weren't paying cash back on iPads 🙁 Lets hope they don't do the same for the iPhone 4.

Thanks for that. I checked and I was using +44. However I deleted and then re-added my phone and it now works 🙂 Hurrah!

Now I can get back to work, safely in the knowledge that I've got O2 and Vodafone tweets getting SMS'ed to me 🙂

I'm wondering if apple are selling handsets unlocked because the networks have been slow to put prices together and being today is the promised pre-order day an nothin sorted as yet

Reservations are out of 32GB models everywhere now, they must be counting stock on a general basis rather than from store to store.

I was getting sold out, tried a few more times at my nearest Apple store and they suddenly had 32GB. Tried again, none. Tried again they had some! is it glitchy or just people changing their minds? If I turn up at the Apple Store at 8am and they've only got 100, but 300 people have reserved them it'll be a nightmare!

Does anyone know how to view their reservation? I've received the email, but I'd like to see if confirmed again!

It seems that way, Andy.

I think all our various networks are waiting for the others to tip their hat and show their hand for this round of iPhone tariff pricing. So far Three and the T-Mobile/Orange partnership have said nowt. Vodafone are making noises but nothing said yet. Same with O2.

No. It's because they're going after RIM. It's the same reason most networks in the UK will carry the iPhone soon and it's the reason Verizon look likely to be the next iPhone carrier in the US.

Network exclusivity has been the main barrier to iPhone overtaking Blackberry as the most popular handset in the world whilst maintaing high revenue to Apple. By unlocking the phones for the mass market, they're opening the floodgates for market penetration. 🙂

EDIT: They're also giving people one less major reason to jailbreak their phones. Jailbreaking takes consumers away from the app store, another major revenue stream in the iPhone's aftersales revenues.

T-mobile

What happens if T-mobile don't release any info before the 24th. Does this mean that the reserve at store will just go to someone else. A bit concerned now as I believe only o2 have confirmed 24th June delivery

Just had an online chat with "Three". They weren't very helpful.

[David Glover] Will Three be offering contract micro-SIMs for people who buy an iPhone 4 direct from Apple?
[Candida] Hi David, welcome to 3 🙂
[Candida]
Thank you for showing your interest in us, I’ll be happy to help you.

[David Glover] Hi. Just wondering if Three be offering contract micro-SIMs for people who buy an iPhone 4 direct from Apple?
[Candida] Yes we offer micro-sims which are available at our stores.
[David Glover] The micro-SIMs you currently sell are for the iPad. Apple's online store claims that iPad SIMs are *not* interchangeable with the iPhone 4, and your online store doesn't say anything about micro-SIMs for other devices.
[Candida] Please give me two minutes.
[David Glover] No problem.
[Candida] Sorry to keep you waiting.
[Candida] We offer micro sim for the iPhone as well. The iPhone 4 will be available on Three from 24th June. To register your interest, go to Three.co.uk/iphone or your local 3Store.
[David Glover] Thanks.

How can O2 have confirmed 24 June delivery? They don't even have prices or the ability for customers to order yet.

I reserved an iPhone without simlock, will Apple ask me for any kind of ID? (I will be visiting the UK on that date)

Usually they need that for setting the network stuff up, but as you're getting an unlocked one I don't think they will, no. That's just a guess, though.

I cannot express how happy I am about the phones being sold SIM free from Apple. Now, I arrive in the UK on the 24th and will be leaving around the 20th July, I just hope supplies get sorted so I will be able to pick one up in that 1 month window!

That's Three for ya.

I spoke to Three online earlier and the agent said 'i think that iphone 4 will use a regular sim card and any sim will be available and suit the iphone product' (thats a copy and paste)

Looks like I'm going to have to chop my SIM card up once I find the best SIM-only deal. 🙁

Because they aren't doing pre-orders. First-come first-served at the stores on the 24th. Wake up early.

My experience with pre-orders (although never through Apple), is that you will need to take the card that you used to pre-order it.

Apple Store Reservation

Can anyone advise me here...

I've preordered iPhone 4 for store collection on the 24th. I'm happy to sign up for a new contract (probably with Vodafone) but I'm on a monthly contract SIM-only with Orange at the moment, and I'd like to stay with Orange if possible. (Orange and Voda both have good reception in my flat - O2 is crap, and T-Mobile... dunno)

Will it be more hassle than it's worth for the apple store staff to process an upgrade with Orange? I understand that my contract is on a 30-day notice period (i think).

Thanks for any suggestions!

Struggled all day today to order on the apple store my sim free phone.

Gave up using my mac and PC, used my iPad - worked first time.

I loved the irony of using the o2 3G service to get a phone that will free me of there terrible service in my area. Now roll on Orange releasing their iPad apps, so that i cam start using my iPad with orange too.

Looks like vodafone's pre-ordering has started... not tried all the way yet cuz I'm thinking orange (need to ship to a different address than billing address and want to see if orange will let me) anywho... prices are similar to what they showed on the "leaked" pages

http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/cat...W001&clickref=skim330X516&dfacid=1&cid=aff-aw

thats for the 3GS!

Damn it... sorry 🙁 I found it on another site... and when I first read the article, I thought the title was just a way to get hits... but then tried the link, and after a quick look thought i was looking at the page for iPhone 4 (I was at work... not time to check properly) sorry again...

Where did you get this info from? I was under the impression that a microSIM was a microSIM. Maybe they just mean you're not allowed to just swap your account between your iPad and iPhone by switching SIMs?

So basically, there will be NO Pay As You Go models sold in the UK by each carrier, because the handset would then be subsidised somewhat and be cheaper than Apple's SIM free versions.

Yeah?
