That's odd. O2 will. I know this because my dad lost his phone recently, so I gave him a spare iPhone 3G I had kicking around and put an old O2 PAYG sim in it.

Called up O2 to cancel the old phone and asked them to move his number and contact to the PAYG sim, rather than have them send a new one out - job done 15 minutes later.

It's horrible when you know something CAN be done but a company flatly refuses to do it.

i also told her that o2 have it on their website that they will swap you to a micro sim but she just said that they cant do it

I reserved a 16gb when the servers where down but have now purchased the phone for delivery so does anyone know how I can cancel my reservation.

Look at your confirmation email. It will have a link at the bottom so that you can cancel.

I just emailed Orange today as im in the same position as you! I have reserved an iphone 4 & if they really wont transfer over my contract to the micro sim then im F****D!

Anyone else know why this is? its not very helpful is it?

Im really gonna be stuck coz i have kept the same mobile number for 10 years or so & I still have till Oct 2011 on Orange!

Why is everyone over-reacting about these Micro-SIMs?

You are not 'F****D' at all, simply cut your current sim down to size, it has been done before with no problems.

Does anyone know where I can confirm my pay monthly iPhone Reserve and pick-up? Like a order confirmation screen? Or is the email all we are going to get? We I DEFINITELY be getting one now I have the email?

I am wanting to move to Vodafone with my PAC from O2, I hope I'll be able to do this is store. If anything goes wrong with the Vodafone sign up, I'm assuming I'll be able to upgrade with O2 instead without a credit check?

Keep emailing Orange.

The boss's name is

Tom.Alexander@orange-ftgroup.com

I've sent 50 emails so far, hopefully they will get bored say something.
Also there is an official Orange UK guy on Twiiter at:

twitter.com/conorfromorange

Gonna give him a tweet of my mind also.

Very not happy right now.

All that will be happening is his poor secretary will be deleting them all / rerouting your address into the spam filter. Just be patient!

anybody got an email from either ?

Haven't had an e-mail from orange at all yet... not just today? have others been getting e-mails from them already? I'll do the whole interested thing on their site again if they have sent e-mails around already...

reserved for collection at birmingham bullring!

Same gere 32GB Black. I've ordered Sim Free Unlocked phone, the email we got asks you to bring lots of ID in and statements etc do you think these only apply to those getting contracts?

I was gonna ring the Apple Bullring store and ask but I bet their mega busy.

I have just got off a chat with an O2 rep, I dont think there is anymore information but here are the important bits

You: My currently 3G contract expires on august 22nd

Liz: Okay.

You: and i was wondering if i can use the early upgrade offer and take out a 12 month simplicity

You: or do I have to take out a 18/24 month contract to use that offer?

***alot of me trying to explain what I mean***

You: so does that mean on june 24th, i can pay £20 (the early upgrade fee), take out a 12 month simplicity, and buy the iPhone 4 on PAYG?

You: or will i have to pay £20, and take out a 18/24 month contract with the iPhone 4?

Liz: Good news! When we launch iPhone 4 you may be able to upgrade at no additional cost.

Liz: However, it is available only on 18 and 24 months contract.

You: so it is not going to be available on Pay as You Go?

Liz: To know more, please click on the link below:

You: and therefore i could not buy it on Pay as You Go and use a simplicity contract?

Liz: Let me explain you clearly once again.

Liz: The phone is going to be available on Pay & Go. However, if you buy this phone on Pay & Go, you'll have to pay for it and it'll not be a free upgrade.

Liz: Once you buy the phone, you can change the tariff to a Simplicity tariff.

Liz: I hope I'm clear now.

You: so i can change my current tariff to simplicty? even though i will have nearly 2 months of it left to go?

Liz: Yes.

Liz: Is there anything else you would like to have assistance with?

You: no that is everything thank you

You: have a nice day

I am not sure what to make of that. I wont be pre-ordering, I will probably be going to my local O2 shop on the 24th with that transcript printed off and see what they say in store. Hopefully more prices will be available by that point.

*Gulp* well, I just put an order in for a 16GB iPhone 4. Bit of a storage downgrade from my 32Gb iPod Touch but if I trim back the podcasts and music it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what the deal is with getting a MicroSIM Simplicity bundle? I'm quite happy to order now or wait until the 24th but don't want to get caught out and have a few days without coverage waiting for the SIM to get here.

I really hope so, I plan (hope) to pick it up from the apple store and get out without even opening the box. I don't need someone to activate it for me - I'm perfectly capable of doing that myself.

Anybody else Ecstatic Apple have gone down the factory unlocked route?

I was sick of travelling with my iPhone and having to wait for jailbreaks, unlocks etc

Obviously a big hit in the pocket but I guess the market share for Apple will be increased if Apple allow this worldwide

Thanks Apple, I'm pissed white was not available but I was 50/50 deciding which anyhow and the unlocked iPhone has cheered me up so I can get away from this unlocking bull

Ps I am a 32GB 3GS owner, I think 600 is over the top for a phone since I use my iPad for a lot of things my iPhone was used for. This time I went for 16gb which should be plenty as most my movies and music are rarely used on the 3GS

Quote - you: "i was wondering if i can use the early upgrade offer and take out a 12 month simplicity"

The answer, from that conversation is - no.

You have a few options with O2.

1. Take out a new 18/24 month contract and purchase a subsidised iPhone 4.
2. Purchase a SIM-FREE iPhone 4 and migrate your contract to a Simplicity contract
3. Purchase a SIM-FREE iPhone 4 and use an O2 PAYG tariff.

Read my post on the last page. It contains some useful info. And yes you can do what you want to do in store - it says so in one of the links in the e-mail. 🙂

And if you upgrade there's no credit check (from past experience).

See you at Manchester Arndale? 🙂

Is anyone else other than me worried about the sim transfer system being bolloxed on the 24th/25th with everyone moving there data accross? Systems have crashed before like the O2 system on the registering day.

Does anyone know what the iPhone 35 Tariff was in February 2010? (iPhone 3GS / 18 months / £35 per-month)

I'm asking as since having this contract, I added a BlackBerry Unlimited bolt-on to my contract and my minutes/texts were reduced.

Now I'm reverting to BACK to my iPhone 35 tariff, I need to make sure O2 give me my correct minutes/texts back.

I don't think anyone's come to that conclusion yet - why couldn't there be subsidised, locked PAYG?

Exactly.

A lot of people, for some reason, don't know the difference between SIM free and PAYG ... SIM free is ALWAYS more expensive.

The subsidising on a PAYG phone is nowhere near that of a Pay Monthly, we all know that, but even a little £50 off the price for taking the phone with a certain carrier only would be nice.

What are your circumstances?

I have an O2 contract ongoing. I'm going to go into an O2 store next week and get a micro-sim and the convertor to use it as an ordinarily size sim card. Get the number transferred ahead of time.

Box clever.

Haven't had an e-mail from orange at all yet... not just today? have others been getting e-mails from them already? I'll do the whole interested thing on their site again if they have sent e-mails around already...

There was a mail from Orange on Friday basically saying 'expect an e-mail on Tuesday 15th'

So far nothing 😡

I'm on a contract with them, but eligable for a handset upgrade so fingers crossed I can get an iPhone

I've just had a call from somebody at the Manchester Trafford Centre store regarding the Reserve & Pick-Up system.

They're also unsure of the difference between Sim-free and PAYG iPhones other than the fact that PAYG will be activated in store and locked to a carrier. I asked why anybody would therefore choose the PAYG option and the answer was "Don't know, but the carriers choose the prices for their PAYG handsets which we honour in store and they *could* be cheaper than the sim-free option. As yet we don't have those prices."

Erm ... fingers crossed for PAYG subsidies.

No iPhone 4 on Tesco Mobile yet, people!

I am pleased to read in your interest in Tesco Mobile and the Apple
iPhone 4.

Apple iPhone 4 Handset

Unfortunately at this time Tesco Mobile do not sell nor support the new
iPhone 4. We would love to have the iPhone 4 available for customers and
we are working hard to make this happen but can't confirm any details at
present. Please keep an eye on www.tescomobile.com for further
information.

Of course, you can buy a SIM and stick in the unlocked one, but you won't get the 12 months unlimited internet deal they give you on the 3GS or anything.
