What are your circumstances?

I have an O2 contract ongoing. I'm going to go into an O2 store next week and get a micro-sim and the convertor to use it as an ordinarily size sim card. Get the number transferred ahead of time.

Box clever.

O2 customer currently have a 3G going to 4 but just thinking of who to go with. I know if I go with O2 it wont be a big issue but if I go with another network it could cause problems. I had this issue when I did a mass swap of carrier at my old employer. Vodafone's system went down and we could not sort out the swap.

Just thinking if everyone on the day is going to swap to Micro Sims then the transfer system will have issues.

You have a few options with O2.

1. Take out a new 18/24 month contract and purchase a subsidised iPhone 4.
2. Purchase a SIM-FREE iPhone 4 and migrate your contract to a Simplicity contract
3. Purchase a SIM-FREE iPhone 4 and use an O2 PAYG tariff.

This is what I want to do. I wanted to know if on the 24th can migrate to simplicity with 2 months left of the contract for either:
a: free
b: pay the early upgrade price, which for me is £20
c: pay the last two months of the contract off at £35 x 2 months.

from that chat I believe i cant move to it for free and then I can buy the iPhone 4 on PAYG / Sim free

Is that as straightforward as it sounds? I went in to the o2 shop on oxford street and the guy in there had no idea about micro sims!

I share your reservations. What's sad is that you and I know this now yet there'll still be chaos on the day... I'm just gonna have to get there early.

Does anyone know what the iPhone 35 Tariff was in February 2010? (iPhone 3GS / 18 months / £35 per-month)

I'm asking as since having this contract, I added a BlackBerry Unlimited bolt-on to my contract and my minutes/texts were reduced.

Now I'm reverting to BACK to my iPhone 35 tariff, I need to make sure O2 give me my correct minutes/texts back.

I have the iPhone 35 tariff (24 months) from September 2009 and the phone was £80 and I get 600 minutes, 500 texts and unlimited data. So the 18 month 35 should be the 900 minutes etc.

hey i just reserved the 16gb to pick up instore because 32 had all gone, just wondered if i selected it as contract and i want it as an upgrade can i do the upgrade there? or will i have to start a whole new contract to get it subsidised which i can do as my 18 months are over i just want to keep my number and its less hassle

Is that as straightforward as it sounds? I went in to the o2 shop on oxford street and the guy in there had no idea about micro sims!

Well last week's update from Guru James said that some people would be receiving micro-sims in the post, but that convertors needed to be collected from a store.

Strangely, that information is now absent from the O2 website but I'm sure by the 23rd they'll be ready.

i dont know if this has been said yet but i just rang orange and the guy i spoke to said that pre ordernig of iphone 4 on contract has been pulled on all networks today. He didnt know why though but just suggested that i wait....

I just emailed Orange today as im in the same position as you! I have reserved an iphone 4 & if they really wont transfer over my contract to the micro sim then im F****D!

Anyone else know why this is? its not very helpful is it?

Im really gonna be stuck coz i have kept the same mobile number for 10 years or so & I still have till Oct 2011 on Orange!

Was thinking of phoning O2 myself to ask about a micro-sim and transfer my simplicity plan over.

There is one reason why they are doing this and one reason only in my eyes.
If they transfer you over to a micro-sim then you keep your current contract, for me this would mean that i would keep my "unlimited data (subject to fair usage)" something that they are trying to get rid of as all new contracts from the 24th that the iPhone is released on will have capped data. O2 is from 500mb, Vodafone 1GB.

This is clearly a way for them to change your contract as they know that the iPhone is probably the main contribution to the amount of data being used and thats why they have probably decided on this so they can start making more money by capping your data.

With the high price of £599 for 32gb, really weighing up if i should keep my 16gb 3G. If i go simfree, they won't transfer my simplicity unlimited data plan so would have to go with the 500mb cap and if i go contract then i get capped again!!!

Damn Contract deals have actually got worse over last few years, less mins and less data, same price, grrrrrr😡

Why is everyone over-reacting about these Micro-SIMs?

You are not 'F****D' at all, simply cut your current sim down to size, it has been done before with no problems.

Yeah but it's easy to make a mistake and totally screw your sim up!

Its mental isnt it. Pre ordered, but dont even know what the tariffs are going to be. I dont think ive ever done that with anything before. Ordered something before i know what the financial commitment is going to be. Damn you Apple and your addictive consumer electronic products.😀

Maria:
I would contact the store directly on this.

Read my post on the last page. It contains some useful info. And yes you can do what you want to do in store - it says so in one of the links in the e-mail. 🙂

And if you upgrade there's no credit check (from past experience).

See you at Manchester Arndale? 🙂

I'll have a look at your posts, cheers 🙂

Yep, it's the Arndale for me! What time you going to queue? All seems to good to be true to me, but fingers crossed huh?

If I remember correctly, I paid around £189 for the phone and I'm pretty sure around 600 minutes, not 100% sure though! 🙁

Hi, I just reserved one iphone 4 and I just read the "What to bring when buying iPhone"

"For all three carriers you bring the following:

Driving license or passport
Recent utility bill
Bank statement or building society statement"

But I'm from sweden, I reserved a SIM-FREE iPhone, so can I assume I don't need any of this? Just bring my cash and pay 🙂?

Maria G was very slow with me too, definitely an over seas worker(India I suspect). She tried to talk me into buying Sim free instead of pay monthly reserve and pick-up!

No you only need that stuff for contract and maybe PAYG.

oh, and bring us some of those Ikea biscuits... and some of those Swedish magazines 😉

I work in Manchester - in City Tower in Piccadilly Gardens. Getting the train in, arriving at 7:10, so should be in the queue for 7:30! 🙂

When Steve Jobs said that there would be pre-orders on the 15th, he never mentioned anything about carriers, which makes me think he meant pre-orders werre from Apple only on 15th. People jump the gun thinking it was carriers when actually it seems that they must just be releasing on the 24th, or are delaying pre-orders.So Apple get the money first - their product, their money.
